A technique I've been doing is getting an audiobook or some kind of ereader (usually the textbook publishers have the robotic reader with the ebook) for the books. It makes reading the books a lot easier and you can retain the information a lot better. But definitely what she said though, don't read the whole book if it's just some novel or some reference book. One semester is not enough for that bullshit.
I feel so charmingly old saying this but girl, you have this b r i g h t future ahead of you, it's so telling and so amazing. And I only partly say this bc of Oxford, the tiniest part actually. You are wide awake, smart, articulate and there is something about your energy that tells me that I wouldn't have to worry about your future if I was your tutor. Thank you for spreading your story, it's needed!
And she's taken time out of her life to help other people learn something she knows. With no expectation of anything in return. That kind of person is who everyone wants to work with and generally be around
I'm a 26 year old mature student with a family and I'm like damn! This content is solid, wish I knew these hacks sooner! It would be interesting to hear your reflections on how you learned to learn. I'm the first in my family to go to university so I've had to learn as I go. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Another tip is to use referencing software (e.g. zotero, endnote, mendley, refworks etc.). It saves so much time and you can check your references at the end to make sure they’re correct! :)
1. Circle the most important bits about the question. 2. Go through the reading list and highlight the reading materials that are most relevant to the question. 3. Read the question and on a piece of paper, write up your initial impressions and questions that pop up in your mind. Define the terms in the question ie. what "women" does the question ask about? Disabled/married/heterosexual. What is "literary genre"? 4. Writing notes when you're doing the readings: The Red/Purple/Black technique (she made it up). Red highlights - literary sources. Purple - your own thoughts. Black - secondary contemporary sources. Then when you actually get to writing, your arguments are gonna be the "purple thoughts" first. Then you'll back it up with the "red sources" as your evidence. The blacks will supplement your argument to show what modern scholars think. tips on reading/taking notes: if you need to read a really long book, go on google and read the summary because there's no way you can finish 10 thick ones in a couple days. Look for the key themes you want to know, locate which chapters it's in, and skim read that chapter for key info. if you have time read the intro and conclusion to get the general gist.
the fact that you said 'I'm going to use last week's question' and I *instantly* knew which question u meant just made me realise how much I watch this channel lol
I love this channel cuz no matter how stressed I am you’re always going through something a thousand times worse but still manage and it’s inspiring 😭😂
Damn. I could have done with this 10 years ago when I was at Uni! Well done on all of your success! I enjoy watching your videos even though I'm not a student! I'm sure actual students will find your videos really useful as well as enjoyable to watch!
I'm from Greece and I'm feeling very happy that you 're reading Greek history especially from Thucydides. He was an amazing Greek historian and we have the opportunity to learn a lot about him and his writings in school and my university now because I'm in Philosophy.u. I hope you will find it as much as interesting that I found it. Also, you give so much courage to study because I can see that I'm not the only one who struggling with so much work 😂
This is literally exactly what I was looking for. Most studytubers never do something this basic, but I think it’s so important we understand how to do the most fundamental thing (reading) before we can actually revise.
I just want to thank you for helping me write 1000 words each day for a few days because my teachers were going nuts in quarantine but you were the reason I actually completed it!
I am applying to Oxford rn and I just want to thank you so much for your videos!! You have broken through the mysticism and given your audience the TRUTH about reality. I cannot thank you enough for your study vids and just your generally AMAZING personality!! Here’s to 100 K hopefully in the near future 🥳
Currently struggling to scramble my thoughts together for a 2.5k essay on Ovid; Vee this video is honestly a live saver, thank you! It's SO easy to get lost in all of those different thoughts and opinions in secondary sources... going to revisit the question and my initial thoughts this evening and see if it helps. :) Thank you again. x
I'm in my second year of Psychology which requires SO much reading of studies and reports, so this is really motivating and helpful for me! I'm halfway through a 3000-word essay for psychobiology about drug addiction and the brain reward pathway but have to use sources to critique the methodological issues which I really struggle with. But I've been watching your videos every morning as motivation to get it done before I end up having an essay crisis. So thank you!
I think reading for the sake of it and reading to write a paper about what you've read are worlds apart. Sure I could read several books in a few days but if you were to then make me sit an exam of specific details of those books...I doubt I'd do well. I'd likely retain the story and the general message of what I've read but thassssit. That being said, maybe I'm just slow.
wow I’m absolutely astonished! I feel like ur literally talking to me when I watch your videos. You’re an absolute genius I swear I love how you are able to apply everything that you’re saying and truly just cut to it. I admire you so much and aspire to be you. I wish you nothing but the best you deserve it
I had to do a 1500 word essay the night before cos I left it late and channeled my inner vee like she did a 4000 word essay in a couple hours so I knew I could too , thanks vee

Vee - YES! I love that you talk about this. I think too many people assume that they can't do a degree (or course) because they don't have the ability to read 5+ books per week, while also writing, doing other courses perhaps, and trying to keep yourself alive. All you need is an effective system - and you have nailed it!
That was so helpful thank you! This year was my freshmen year at uni and struggled so much with note-taking and reading again again all these books and articles. I came up eventually with a strategy like this but now I find yours much more efficient so thank you again! ♥️
Did exactly this technic, just a bit different and more in the way that I could use it/that suited my needs, for my first ever seminar paper (at the end of the term we have to write an essay about a topic which is about 70% of our grade) and I got a 1 (best grade you can get) for the paper. So I can only advice everyone to give this a HUGE try if you want to have an easier life! Also, do your citation work right away and not wait for it to the end!!!
Loved this. Would love a vid that is literally just “how to write an essay with examples” how to structure paragraphs what to include in your conclusion vs what not to etc. I feel like I could be doing so much better if I just knew about structuring more. Thanks!
