You might have encountered Riichi Mahjong in the Yakuza series, by watching the Akagi or Saki anime, or you might have seen your favorite VTubers from Hololive or Nijisanji playing. The rules are virtually identical whether you're playing in Yakuza, FFXIV, Mahjong Soul, Tenhou, or Riichi City.

Also for the East 1 Furiten, I might have attacked with that hand too. Actually I read it in Statistical Mahjong that a 3 sided furiten wait has about the same chances of winning than a 2 sided non-furiten (on the 8th turn, it has 10% less chance to win than a ryanmen). You also often see pros call 3 sided furiten Riichis like instantly. So I dont think this was necessarily a wrong play considering the guaranteed value in your hand.

35:28 3s here has 8 ukeire for tenpai (36m4s) with either a kanchan or shanpon wait. 4p or 7p would give 16 ukeire (36m245s) with either a kanchan or ryanmen wait. If you want to accept the dora you have to go back to 2-shanten.

East 4: I'm pretty sure pinfu hands can't have honors pairs. Has to be all suits.
Edit: I'm wrong. It can be a wind that's not your wind or the round wind. Can't be a dragon either. What a weird and specific rule

It makes sense to me. It basically makes it so that if you have a pair of seat/round honors or dragons, you can't just freely choose between opening your hand for a fast hand OR keeping your hand closed with the pair for a chance of Riichi + Pinfu. That flexibility would be too good. I would rarely go for Prevalent/Dragon hand only unless I was 1st already or it had a lot of doras.
At the same time, it makes it so a pair of valueless honors are still useful to you if they are in your hand. If they ONLY allowed pinfu with suit tiles I would practically always discard the pair of honors, they're too hard to complete unless I pon and they're killing my chance of pinfu if they stay in my hand. Hell, they would be useless most of the time unless you have a half flush or all triplets hand or something (or they are the dora). It's nice that we can use them for pinfu.
It seems balanced.
