How do you get into the motherboard program to change this stuff? Also, how do I know if my motherboard is capable of overclocking? Thanks and good video
Nice video! I can get the base clock on my z77 motherboard to 107.24Mhz before instability and boot failures. got my i7 3770 non-k to 4.386Ghz with a turbo multiplier of 41! this is at about 1.19v under load. So you can't set the multiplier on your i5 3470 to 42? I'm sure you can add 4 to the turbo multiplier on a non k chip for ivy bridge.
On my board I can key in 42, and the bios accepts it, but the chip locks in at 38. My board may just not allow it past 38 even with the value showing 42 I dont use turbo. I lock all cores to 4.1. Turbo would probably get better synthetic score, but ive seen cores that are at full speed at all times have less impact on performance. In gaming, load screens and scene transitions lower the cpu demand, and it has to ramp back up. Depending on title, it is actually noticible.
i5-3470 on Asrock P67 Pro3 OC'd to 40x and 106Mhz with only +0.240V. Temps at idle are up a few degrees but nothing extreme, 60 degrees at max load. Cinebench R15 score - 555 which also boosted my GTX 1060 score by 10 fps. Since my ram is only 1600 I followed the advice and changed the timings to 10-10-10-27. Also changed the command rate to 1 - it seems to yield a slightly better results on ram tests. I could've tried 107Mhz+ but I didn't want to push it so close to the edge.
Hi there! Really informative video :) Just bought a used i5 3470 for 25 Euro. I think it's a great price, provided it will work :)... Currently waiting for z77 mobo to arrive. Did you check if there was any FPS increase in any games after OC? Thank you!
I never did extensive testing, but the fact that the processor was running a measurable percentage faster meant it was for sure going to increase fps if coupled with a higher end card. The gpu and cpu must balance themselves. If you have a gpu that is way faster than the cpu can handle, then the gains are minimal. But if you have a gpu that has been held back because of the cpu, (only getting to 60-70percent usage) then the oc will increase the fps. If your gpu is already at 100 percent, then the cpu won't affect the fps at all.
@@TheJimminiShow Thank you for taking time to answer:). I was planning buying a used RX 480 for 100-110 €. Do you think it would be a well balanced choice? Thank you!
My motherboard is a GA Z77p, it allows me to change the multiplier to 3.80ghz and the turbo boost, lend the cpu at 4.30ghz, I get 513 points into the Cinebench. You think that this is good or you recommend me to oc by bclk?
That's pretty good so far. I would increase your Bclk a little bit to see if there is anything left in it, but the increase is not going to show much compared to the hike you already achieved. Go up in 1 point increments, i.e. 101, 102, etc until no longer stable and then back down a little bit. Keep in mind, youay have to slow down your memory speed if it goes too high. Let me know what you end up at!
I have read on various Brazilian forums, that 102.000 it's the limit for bclk, because it will have effect on PCI, HDD and Ssd devices. What do you think about that?
It is hit-or-miss regarding bclk. It does affect all those things, but it's more dependent on your CPU than anything else. Some CPUs are able to handle it some or not. I've run up to 107 with mine with no real problems. As for the ram standard speed for DDR3 is 1066. and you could run it as low as you want the problem comes when you run too fast.
@@TheJimminiShow Thanks man, i get over 3.8 Ghz to 4.5Ghz (turbo boost). I used the BCLK in 104.85, more than this, crashes my mobo and it can't boot, thanks for your help. If my ram is running ok with a frequency higher than 1333mhz, i should slow them down?
Hey, i want to overclock my cpu and i dont know if i can. my specs are: cpu intel 8600T 2.3ghz and Z370M MotherBoard. do you think i could overclock my cpu even a little bit? thank you and i hope you could help me :]
Sorry, even with a z370 motherboard, the 8600T Cannot be overclocked. The T processor is a low TDP chipset and the multiplier is locked. The only thing that I think you can do is enable MCE (multi core enhancement) in your Bios. On newer generation CPU's, Intel locked down the multiplier completely so you have to buy the K version of the chip.
I doubt it. For one, only 4pin. And only 6 phase power delivery. It's going to get very hot. Get a tower cooler and make sure the VRMs are cool and you should be ok. But I've Never tried on that board, so go slow and increase clocks in small increments
I believe that Task Manager's reporting overstates CPU speed sometimes. I believe my 3470 CPU on a Gigabyte motherboard shows well over 4GHz in Task Manager when it's really running just under 4GHz.
That's why I also use CPU z, hardware monitor, as well as the reporting from cinebench. I can tell you based on the performance I've gained that my speed is accurate. Some boards are just weird that way.
Can I over clock my i5 3470T (not i5 3470) with MSI 7788 H61M -P20(G3) and my motherboard is having over clock section in bios ? And if not then why due to 3470T or H61M ? And if yes then how much should i over clock for GTA 5 my base clock speed is 2.9 GHz and turbo boost is 3.6 GHz ?
I wouldn't trust an H61 with overclocking. That motherboard only goes up to 1333 MHz ram. Running 1866mhz ram on a good z77 will get you the same performance as the small overclock you'll get on that board. It has no heatsinks. They have horrible power delivery, bad or even no cooling on the VRM s and they get very unstable when you increase BLCK because the cheap chipset. Only thing I would do with that motherboard is see how long it can run before dying from overheating. Just because a Honda Civic had a 155mph speedo doesn't mean it'll do it safely.
H77 will more than likely not be able to overclock. An h series motherboard doesn't have very good power delivery, cooling, and I don't know if the BIOS will allow you to overclock. You need to use a z series motherboard like I did. h series motherboards are the most basic motherboards you can use and are not designed with overclocking in mind. The easiest thing to do is open your bios and check and see if it even allows you to overclock. I don't have that model of motherboard available to me, but typically a low-end board like that will not allow it
@@TheJimminiShow omg you reply in fast response.i hope you got much more sub you deserved it man.theres ai tweaker in the bios not sure if it does anything
Open AI tweaker and see if it allows you to adjust ratio it should be on 32 or 34. See if it allows you to manually adjust it. And if it does, see if it will allow you to change it up. After you do that check your voltage using hardware monitor you can get it for free by googling hardware monitor and see what your voltage looks like when you run a test. If the system crashes slowly add voltage in small increments until it is stable.
This is an inspirational video! .... and I mean it most sincerely🙂 Thanks for posting it and for all you kind replies in the comments. I’m looking forward to four times the threads and almost three times the L3 cache and I can always have a look at Turbo 2.0 for a while. Great Video!
Hopefully you see this. I have an Hp Compaq elite 8300 with same cpu but in an hp designed micro atx q77 motherboard. Am i good to upgrade the motherboard?
What do you mean "upgrade the motherboard"? if you are asking if you can overclock on that the answer is more than likely no. As I've said many times the pre-built systems have bios that are junk. They do not allow for overclocking and even when they do it is not safe because the parts on those motherboards are not designed for overclocking. You can go into your bios and see, but I do not recommend it and I take no responsibility if the computer dies.additionally that has a proprietary power connector so you can't just change the motherboard without changing the power supply as well.
@@TheJimminiShow My idea is to find a motherboard that allows overclocking that fits the micro atx form factor with socket 1155. I already knew from checking the bios that it currently not possible to overclock on this motherboard.

I dont thin I have overclockable RAM but i can switch tresholds(like multiplier in cpu). Do I have to care about something else when overclocking frequency?(Gpu for example)
Not if you are just changing multiplier. If you change baseclock BCLK, you could speed everything up and it might be unstable. You may need more power.
@@TheJimminiShow i can only increase BCLK. My i5 4460 upper limit is 34 on multiplier. Is it possible to call all the components I have to underclock to finish with same effect as I would oc only CPU? Sorry for my english I hope everything is understandable.
You just have to watch your RAM speed period that will be most affected by bclk clocking. The PCI Lanes will speed up, but it's the ram that will disable the system or cause instability first. You shouldn't have to underclock anything but the RAM period when you change your bclk, watch your RAM speed. Make sure it doesn't go over what your RAM is rated for, and you should theoretically be okay. But go slowly when you overclock using bclk
@@TheJimminiShow thanks i will try For now i have increased cpu speed by 120mhz and Ram by 50mhz without increasing any voltage and its stable but i would want to go higher. My RAM is slow - 1600mhz (ddr3) I guess there is no hope to speed up my computer without changing everything starting from motherboard.
That's because you have an h61 chipset. H61 cannot change a non k SKU. I've said it before, you need a z series board to overclock that chip. If it doesn't say z68, z75 z77, it won't work.
No clue, never tried to overclock a non k sku Skylake CPU before. It is much harder from what I know. And it is more about the motherboard than the processor. Go into your bios and see if it allows you to change the CPU ratio or the BCLK numbers. If not, then no. But depending on where you are, 6700 i7s are pretty reasonable. And if you need a lot more CPU, then you may need to upgrade
I tried to modify parameters but the cpu tell "overclocking failed" Arround the parameters was cpu voltaje, BCKL, ratio cpu and i disable turbo boost... i cant oc I read about of my motherboard but i dont find a bios modificated
No. Once again, that's just h61 OEM stuff. Even if it could, I wouldn't. Those boards are made for light office work. Basically you are trying to put a supercharger on a snow blower. Even if you could, it wouldn't matter
That only works on CPUs with unlocked multipliers. You need to manually oc that one. And the H61 is not good at overclocking. It only has a 4 pin CPU power, and only 4 power phases. The risk of damage is more than the performance you are going to see from overclocking that chip on that board. I don't recommend it, so continue at your own risk my friend.
You need to check your bios. I do not have that motherboard. Overclocking non k SKU CPUs is not easy. If you have no experience with overclocking, you should not try it on a cheap board like that. The biggest problem is going to be voltage. You could easily break that board
Is it worth trying a used Z chipset intel motherboard to acces faster RAM speeds? Im geting 400-500$ new on Amozon and Newegg. I have a 4th gen I5 lga1150 socket.
@@TheJimminiShow buying a Used one instead of a new motherboard they are considerably cheeper than new. I was going to upgrade to a i7 4790k, but I currently have a i5 4460 16gb ram 2×8 1600MHz.
Unless you are using ram that can hit 2133 or 2400 mhz, a motherboard upgrade wont really help. The reason to upgrade would be if the board you have now only has a four pin cpu power or you only have two ram slots. Haswell gen chips dont really benefit from ram speeds unless its super high. Most 1600 mhz ram cant run over 1866 without a ton of voltage and even then it wont help as much as going to the 4790k
@@TheJimminiShow my plan was to replace my mother board than the CPU, and move my graphics card, CPU, and power suply to the new motherboard, but is it worth using a used Motherboard its much less expencive than a new one in order to get a overclockable Z chipset.
I seriously doubt it. The I5 3470T os a low power chip designed for office computers and small form factor computers. It only has a 35 watt TDP. It boosts to 3.6 GHz but only for short intervals. If you're going to go to the effort of replacing your motherboard you should also replace that CPU. Even if you got to 4 gigahertz I doubt it would be stable on such a low power chip. Because adding voltage won't do anything to it.
High clocks! (I had the Q9550 too, but on a cheap old mobo, only kept it at 3.6GHz). Sadly, Cinebench does not tell full story for the core2Quad in games. Having those two separate glued dies meant that in games, great Cinebench performance did not transform into great gaming performance- even Piledriver cores performed better there.
I highly doubt it. Ecs looks like it is a very basic board. I dont know the exact model you are referring to, but they look like H61 chips with junk power delivery and cheap parts. Even if it is unlocked, I would not teccomend it. You nedd a good Z75 chipset with good cooling to do what I did.

No clue, never tried it. If you have the system, try tweaking it. Just asking me won't get an acceptable answer as i only overclocked on an unlocked z75 mobo.
No clue. Boot into your bios and see if it allows yo to change anything. It's an h 67 chip, so if it allows you to change the Bclk, you should be able to. But that board is pretty weak. Personally, I wouldn't try it on there
I have no clue I've never overclocked on your motherboard before. I used a tower cooler on mine. Just go slowly and see what your temps look like. The only way to know for sure is to actually do it The computer will shut down if you're running too hot.
@@TheJimminiShow i am trying to do step by step and i got from cinebench20 result of 1009cb is it good? i have no clue what i am doing :D i made 4ghz at first but it won't boot i put 3.6hz now and is ok. maybe i can get higher idk
If done correctly, yes. Heat is the most important thing. High temps will lead to higher resistance in the chip, which will eventually damage it. That's why hardcore overclokers use liquid nitrogen. As long as you stay under, I'd suggest 70 degrees Celsius, under FULL load, you should be fine. Newer computers are designed to shut themselves off if the temp is too high.
I have no idea what i5 you have, or what cooling you have, or what your motherboard is. Just keep an eye on your temps and go slow. Every chip is different. Some don't overclock well at all. Some overclock great Just go easy and only change one thing at a time. Watch a bunch of videos to learn.
Not really. As i said before, A Z75 or Z77 is needed. You cannot get much out of non k cpus with lower end hardware. And the small amount you will get isnt worth the headache
For light 1080p gaming, sure. It is still a 4 core/ 4 threaded processor. If you want to use a more powerful graphics card, you will probably want to upgrade the processor to an i7 3770 or so. It will work on that board, and non k models are much more reasonable.
Can't play Anthem because my processor isn't enough. Anthem asks for 3.40 and mine has 3.20. Can i overclock my I5-4460 from 3.20 to 3.40 ? My Specs are: I5-4460 / 1070GTX 8Gb / 8Gb RAM DDR3.
@@TheJimminiShow Thanks for answer. But man, it asks for 3.40Ghz and mine has 3.20Ghz, i can see the hard framedrops at any fight i'm in the game. The Cataclysm event is almost unplayable because of so much things going on at the same time in my screen. I need that .20 boost to play stable.
200 MHz isn't going to do anything substantial. The problem is you are VERY badly bottlenecking the 1070 you're using. You would need a much higher overclock to fix that. I still need to know what motherboard so I can check if you can oc it.
Simply try it. Should be very easy to add +4 to multiplier (so +400MHz). Just do not expect high bus clock to work- stable bus clock may top out at 103-105MHz for many setups.

Or am i good to go ? 😕..... BTW i have a asus z97 pro gamer mobo
You should be absolutely fine with that overclock. Even if you were to do something wrong the worst thing that would happen is the computer would just need to be reset by popping out the CMOS battery and that would do a hard reset on the BIOS for the motherboard and reset everything to stock. More modern hardware like what you have is designed to save itself in case of overvolting or overheating. That overclock is very small and it doesn't seem like you're having any problems so you should be just fine. And the Asus z97 motherboard is a good motherboard It has beefy power delivery and cooling for the VRMs so you should be just fine
yeah, This was completely stable for me. If you are doing this, you will have to use your best judgment, but as long as you keep heat and voltage under control, there is very little harm to doing it. JUST GO SLOW
No because it can't be done without doing some dangerous stuff and I'm not willing to help people break their stuff. You need a Z77 to overclock the non k CPUs

Not sure you can. Yes even if it has an 8-pin CPU plug. Just because it has an 8 Pin plug doesn't mean the rest of the motherboard can handle an increase in voltage to overclock that processor on that motherboard. H61 has absolutely horrible Cooling for both the power phases in the mosfets. Adding even .25 Voltz to the system can cause a 30° C increase in temperature. That can result in damage to the motherboard that could easily kill both the motherboard and the processor. I absolutely do not recommend trying to overclock an h61 motherboard. Unless it's set up to handle the power all you're doing is risking damage to your system.

the motherboard should be able to overclock it, but if it is a 3470s, you may have some issues. the S is a 65w tdp chip, which is pretty low for a desktop, so it may not overclock well. the first thing to do is use the bios and try to input 38 on all cores, and see. Turbo would probably get better synthetic score, but ive seen cores that are at full speed at all times have less impact on performance. In gaming, load screens and scene transitions lower the cpu demand, and it has to ramp back up. Depending on title, it is actually noticible.
Is 107 safe? I heard 106 is the max before failures.
It varies from chip to chip. I have it at 107.99 stable, but if I go 108, it fails. It comes down to the silicon lottery.
i5-3470 on Asrock P67 Pro3 OC'd to 40x and 106Mhz with only +0.240V.
Very cool. Glad it worked well for you!
So there's no way to overclock my old fujitsu PC with i5-3470? :/
Sorry don't think so
@@TheJimminiShow When i try to slow down the memories, my bios set a value under 1333mhz that is the frequency of them. Is this okay?
Besides the 8600t is a stomper... Not sure why you'd even want to overclock it
Can h77h2-m3 with stock cooler handle the overclock?
I doubt it. For one, only 4pin. And only 6 phase power delivery. It's going to get very hot. Get a tower cooler and make sure the VRMs are cool and you should be ok. But I've Never tried on that board, so go slow and increase clocks in small increments

What's your mobo names?
I believe that Task Manager's reporting overstates CPU speed sometimes. I believe my 3470 CPU on a Gigabyte motherboard shows well over 4GHz in Task Manager when it's really running just under 4GHz.
That's why I also use CPU z, hardware monitor, as well as the reporting from cinebench. I can tell you based on the performance I've gained that my speed is accurate. Some boards are just weird that way.

Bro This Motherboard is Overclockable H61M-GS ya No?????
I wouldn't trust an H61 with overclocking. That motherboard only goes up to 1333 MHz ram. Running 1866mhz ram on a good z77 will get you the same performance as the small overclock you'll get on that board. It has no heatsinks. They have horrible power delivery, bad or even no cooling on the VRM s and they get very unstable when you increase BLCK because the cheap chipset. Only thing I would do with that motherboard is see how long it can run before dying from overheating. Just because a Honda Civic had a 155mph speedo doesn't mean it'll do it safely.

sir can i5 3470 with an asustek P8H77 M-LE OVERCLOCK like you did please give me an answer noob here
H77 will more than likely not be able to overclock.
I see you are sick of H61motherboard questions, I use a H81 to get 4.3 and 1600 out of a G3258 and 1300 ram bundle (upgrade) at 1.35 volts (still cool). I have just got a 3.5/3.9 e3 1270v3 Xeon, is 4.1 or 4.2 do-able?
Ok. But keep in mind, you have to replace the power supply as well.

No sorry

Is motherboard's KRC95 or YXT71 capable of overclocking?
No. Once again, that's just h61 OEM stuff. Even if it could, I wouldn't. Those boards are made for light office work. Basically you are trying to put a supercharger on a snow blower. Even if you could, it wouldn't matter
I have i5 3570 non k, can I overclock without updating bios?
On what board? It's the motherboard I need to know about more than the CPU
@@TheJimminiShow Gigabyte GA-H61M-S1 (Rev 3.0)
No. H61 is not made for overclocking. If you go to the first comment I pinned on the video, it will explain why.
But my mobo have one touch overclock feature
That only works on CPUs with unlocked multipliers. You need to manually oc that one. And the H61 is not good at overclocking. It only has a 4 pin CPU power, and only 4 power phases. The risk of damage is more than the performance you are going to see from overclocking that chip on that board. I don't recommend it, so continue at your own risk my friend.
One more question will my GTX 1050 Ti bottleneck i5 3470 T having 16 gb 1600 Hz Ram and 500 W Gaming PSU

would it also be possible to overclock my i5-3470 on a GA-B75M-D3H and if so how would that be possible? i thank you in advance for an answer.
You need to check your bios. I do not have that motherboard. Overclocking non k SKU CPUs is not easy. If you have no experience with overclocking, you should not try it on a cheap board like that. The biggest problem is going to be voltage. You could easily break that board
yes it has BCLK adjustment. i just did 103mhz no problems yet and i even have nvme drive

@@TheJimminiShow my plan was to replace my mother board than the CPU, and move my graphics card, CPU, and power suply to the new motherboard, but is it worth using a used Motherboard its much less expencive than a new one in order to get a overclockable Z chipset.
yes, used is fine. also I don't know of any manufacturer that makes new board fo 4t gen stuff anyway.
If I change my H61 motherboard then can I oc my 3470T from 2.9 GHz to 4GHz
I seriously doubt it. The I5 3470T os a low power chip designed for office computers and small form factor computers. It only has a 35 watt TDP. It boosts to 3.6 GHz but only for short intervals. If you're going to go to the effort of replacing your motherboard you should also replace that CPU. Even if you got to 4 gigahertz I doubt it would be stable on such a low power chip. Because adding voltage won't do anything to it.

You can go into your bios and see if it allows you to overclock but that looks like it's a very very very very basic system and I wouldn't try to overclock on that motherboard because it doesn't have any cooling for anything other than the CPU which means if you add too much voltage you're just going to fry it
En la pc de mi amigo su i5 3470 llego a 4.05Ghz solo con el turbo boost :C, no se que tipo de brujeria sera esa wea :C pero por lo que veo no es de Dios.

How u open the BIOSTAR? I cannot.
I have a mother board 2756F1U , i5-3470 non k can i overclock?
No. That is a basic g41 chipset.
Sir, can i oc my i5 3470 on asus p8h61 pro. It have a 8 pin cpu
Please read the first pinned response.
@@TheJimminiShow Even if it have 8 pin cpu? ok then thanks

Hello,
Can i overclock i5-3470 to 3.8-4.0 on Asus P8H77-m le( H77 chipset)? I have good air cooler i dont know model of cooler but i know that cpu temp on prime 95 on full load not going over 65°C
Thank you
No. H77 does not support overclocking. It allows turbo of all cores, but the BIOS does not allow manual overclocking.
@@TheJimminiShow Oh shit,i get my at 3.6ghz boosted, thanks you for fast answer!
:)
Can I overclock on b75 motherboard?
I don't know. I don't think so, but the only way to know is to try. Good luck.
can i overclock on my toaster v6 i5
As long as it's not a H series toaster.
@@TheJimminiShow thanks you so much went from .1ghz to .3 liked and subbed :)
Lol. I hear .5 and it makes charcoal
Can ı overclock i5 3450 with Asus Z68 motherboard ?
I think so
I have ancient lenovo tower with lenovo mohobay motherboard, could I monkey around ant try to get 3.7 or 3.8ghz on my i5 3470 ???
Possibly. That motherboard should have a q77 chipset. If so go into your bios and see if you can adjust your BLCK. If you can, 105 or so should get you to 3.7 or 3.8
@@TheJimminiShow Hey man, thanks for fast response, i will give it a try later today and i hope i wont kill my cpu becouse it still serves me well for gaming with gtx 970.
@@TheJimminiShow unfortunatly I updated my BIOS with Lenovo Vantage and i check i have none options to play with any settings on my cpu.. Is there other way maybe?
Not that I can think of. Maybe reflash with an older bios?
Please please reply I have a i5 3470s and I want to get the clocks a little bit higher al least to 3.8 ghz is this possible
On what board? What ram? And you say its an i5 3470s?
The Jimmini Show I’m going to be using a P8z68 v pro asks motherboard with 2x4gb dual channel Kingston ddr3 1333mhz
the motherboard should be able to overclock it, but if it is a 3470s, you may have some issues. the S is a 65w tdp chip, which is pretty low for a desktop, so it may not overclock well. the first thing to do is use the bios and try to input 38 on all cores, and see. If it crashes, you may have to tune power and BCLK. I can't tell you exactly how to do it, because I used a z75 and regular 3470. Good luck
