I can remember hearing this along with Cozy Powell "Dance with the devil" when i was 11 years old with my brother, he liked the drums so much that he's a drummer in a band called Tragic Roundabout and he's loving it. thanx Burundi Black and Cozy Powell for banging them drums
This track changed my life. When it came out I was a schoolboy, and it got me interested in African music and all things African. To cut a long story short, I now have a beautiful wife from Cameroon!
i have seen this group live in Burundi. I never knew there was a record. I'm very happy to see that people know and love this music :) They are incredible! Toddlers in Burundi grow up with a drum in their hands and you see them all over the place. This is the national team better known as The Royal Drummers of Burundi.
This is but one of the records. This was a single the samples the drummers. The other is the first Real World release away from Peter Gabriel, about an hour long. Also the Burundi beat was used by Bow Wow Wow and Adam Ant respectively.
Adam Ant led me here!
Back in '71 used to go into the 'Wheatsheaf' Pub in Basingstoke, as this was on the Juke Box - the only place I could find it!
This would have inspired Adam and the Ants; Dog Eat Dog and Antmusic both have this type of backing with the two drummers.

Drums are like shields. Wampayi inka.
This is where Def Leppard got the rhythm for Rocket on Hysteria, it's such an amazing beat, all those tom tom rolls.........wow.
I have the original 45 this is the best part by all means . Probably worth some.
The tribe that answers
The beat is in your genes. You can't avoid tapping fingers/feet/ whatever. Well, I can't, anyway.
as old as it is. it still rocks.
Well i'm 61 and still love it, i'm just learning to play the bongos, oh what fun.
