Can't wait to get the dough together to pimp my old skeeter out like that been talking to TBN about mine recently gonna seadeck it and cut out the passenger counsel and change out all the doors
I've found that when the fish don't want a lot of action, silicone is the way to go for me, but fishing the living rubber at a snails pace can pick up a few extra bites for me in really cold water as well.. I think it becomes more situational than anything in my opinion.
My 2 cents worth-Living rubber rules Silicone drools LOL I use living rubber only when the water temp is 40-55 I think it poofs better or has a little more action-Keep up the good work
Definitely a good comparison to show the difference in action. These used to be standard on a lot of older baits, where did you end up buying your living rubber skirts from?
Great video guys, really appreciate the subjects you’re covering! One of the only things we northerners have to do this time of year is our research! Big difference in the action IMO I wanted to bite that living rubber
I’m a huge fan of living rubber rubber jig skirts I switched awhile back however I still use some store bought jigs with silicone skirts but with my own I even combine the silicone and rubber so I get the best of both worlds
I did the test on Lay Lake in warmer water (64’f) in Shelby County Alabama. The living rubber has more action, more of a natural motion. The silicone did good initially however it would stop movement where the rubber reacted to the current. I did this in about 6 feet of water and filmed it wi for the video. I like the living rubber action.
I wonder how the traditional rubber skirts would compare with these two. By "traditional", I mean the skirts that are found on Hula Poppers or H&H spinnerbaits and have flat strands.
@@markfisheroutdoors I will send you the skirts if you supply the camera and pool. H&H lures still sell the "old style" ones and I need to get me some more porcupine quill bobbers.
I’m going to be putting out a video on this topic very soon but to answer your question, I use brown/ purple living rubber skirt with green pumpkin chigger craw trailer.
I’m not disagreeing with what you said in your comment. In fact, it gave me a topic idea for another episode! But I’m not only interested in catching the “hungry “ bass. I am interested in understanding how/what triggers those reaction bites as well. No doubt lure presentation is a key element! Thanks for commenting and tuning into the channel.
@markfisheroutdoors yeah presentation and technique is a vague part on my comment. But takes to long to type a book. But in reality natural food rarely gives the predator lots of time to observe its dinner. Now dead sticking is on another level of observation where curiosity kills the cat or frustration gets them hooked.
I don’t know if I’m the only one but I want to know WHY. I get why when the bait is on the bottom and it’s wafting around ( unlike the silicone) but why is it better when we’re swimming it? We appreciate you tuning in and commenting.
@@markfisheroutdoors good morning happy fishing Friday to you both I enjoyed seeing your underwater Wednesdays and I also enjoy the quizzes I'm sorry I missed the second quiz video but I will be seeing the quiz video this morning drinking my coffee and cleaning cleaning and dressing up my spinning reels and having them ready for February I'm going in memory of my dad to go to my father's rest in peace favorite fishing pier sport and catch mackerel fish in his memory and honor I mis my parents dearly

A time and place for both. My concern with the living rubber is it can melt and get all sticky. Seems like todays living rubber not so much. Your thought?

Good luck on that project brother. Sounds like it will be cool.
Oof was supposed to be commenting on Oliver Ngy vid with that my bad

Love the look and action of that living rubber
Megan said it reminds her of a jellyfish!?!?

I get those jigs from my good friend Ken Winston.
I re-used some yamatanuki that had the tail bit off .I threaded some with silicone and others with rubber and the rubber outperformed the silicone
That’s a cool little test!

And making lots of jigs lol

Good idea!
The living rubber has double the skirt material, that may play a role in why they look so different.
Yeah it is denser looking. Thanks for commenting.

I think combining them is a great idea. Do you know of any companies that are doing that?

It sounds like our two test results came up with almost exactly the same results! Thanks for the feedback.

You guys are great at giving me challenges! Now I have to find that and do an underwater video comparison! I’m on it! We appreciate your suggestions!

You got a deal!
Please message me on Facebook directly and we can swap info.
I have always thought that living rubber had way more action. The silicone did have some action but nothing like the living rubber.
Yeah especially if you’re fishing slowly and not imparting a lot of movement into the bait yourself.
Thanks for commenting and tuning in.
Man I’ve been struggling fishing a jig on lake Geneva. Any chance you could help me with jig colors or trailers? Thanks.

In all my bassfishing from 1994 to now, a hungry bass eats anything. I would put more stock into lure presentation than anything.

@@rickvann3489 that I agree with 100%!
Living rubber has ALWAYS out fished silicone for me. It’s just so difficult to find it and when you do they cost so much you can’t afford them.

It is also something I have always pondered
Living rubber looks better so nnow i need to get some give it a try 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I do remember those situations in my early days my tackle box would have melted strands of rubber in the trays!
Those look like Joe football jigs from Demay and I know those smack em I have quite the collection of them
They aren’t John’s. Similar but not his. I like his a lot!
