Marie, thank you for your comment! Did you follow the recipe fully? I mean I can't seem to understand why it would be bitter at all. Did you add more whole spices than what the recipe stated?!
Ahh ok, yes sometimes when you add a little too many whole spices they can overpower any dish. I think that's what's happened in this case. Yes, definitely do try it again with the amount I used in the video and it should turn out perfect and apologies for the extremely late response, your message notification just popped up today. 😊
Thank you so much for this recipe. For 15 years I've struggled with pilau rice until tonight! Not only was your recipe easy to follow, the rice tastes amazing and the best I've ever made them. This will now be my go to chicken pilau recipe. I can't tell you how happy I am. My husband and children polished off their plates which is something they've never done before when I've made pilau! Thank you so much 😊 Will definitely be trying out some more of your recipes.

Hi Shamza! Been meaning to try this for a while, and finally did this evening. It was absolutely delicious! The only thing is I tried to cut corners, and not finish it off in the oven - just turning my stove very low - and some of the rice stuck. Not enough to affect the flavor though. Hi Eddy, Thank you for your comment. A small amount of rice sticking is quite normal, but since your using an induction hob, the heat is Intense and direct. Try using an induction diffuser to evenly distribute the heat which may help! I have a ceramic hob and can fully understand the issues of working with intense heat! Hope that helps! 😊
If you use 4 cups of rice with 1 whole chicken, how much salt do you have to put? Could you tell me the measurements of the other ingredients aswel for 4 cups of rice. Thanks.
Hi there, keep all other ingredients the same other than the salt and water that goes in to cook the rice. Total salt - 2.5 tablespoons Water - 5 mugs Let me know how you find the recipe 😊👍
Hi Alima, my cast iron pot is a 6 litre one and yes, but it's very heavy and heats up very quickly. Food does catch at the bottom quite a bit but otherwise its brilliant.
My Little Kitchen I will be making it on Eid so will let you know then. I’ve made your lamb pilau twice now and it came out lovely. The lamb was a little tough so not sure why. I used back chops and did exactly as you said 🤷🏻♀️ but overall my family loved it. Thank you for all your recipes ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. May I ask was the chops a little on the thick side? If so they may have needed an extra 10 mins or so cooking time in the yakhni. I always try to get the butcher to cut mine roughly 1- 1.1/2 inch thick peices which is what I used in the video. Try that next time and In sha Allah the meat will be super tender, falling off the bone! 😊
Hi Catherine, thanks for your comment. Did you rinse the cloth under water and squeeze out the excess water before putting it in the oven? If you didn't do that, then that's the reason why the cloth burnt! You could replace the cloth with foil which works equally well. Hope that helps!
Hi Shamza, just found your channel and I think its amazing. Great recipes! Quick Q. Instead of putting the pan in the oven, can I cook it on the hob? I guess you put it in the oven as the rice would cook better. Again, great channel and keep up the great work.

Hi Ali, you may reduce the amount of oil if you wish. I think it'll work perfectly with probably 1/4 cup less. And yes its the same oven setting as stated in the video as mine too is fan assisted. Enjoy 😊👍
@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes hey I used half cup and made it yesterday turned out perfectly 🤗 thanks so much.. Also say I was to make more rice would I just add an extra cup just like thie video however much rice I use? So if I used 5 I'd put in 6 cups? Thanks again x
Hi this video is so helpful thank you so much just wanted to ask if I do not have all the separate spices can I use Garam masala mix (the one you use for lamb pilau)
Hi there.. thanks for your comment. I'm glad you found the video helpful. I would just add whichever whole spices you have to hand but maybe double the quantity to maximise the flavour. You could add garam masala but it is alot stronger in flavour as the spices are ground as opposed to whole spices. If you do go ahead and use the ground spices then start with a small amount and try the stock to check for potency. Always remember you can more but cannot remove once you've added. Hope that helps! 😊
Wsalaam, thank you for your comment. It all depends on peoples portion sizes and also if this is the only dish on the menu. Normally this feeds around 6/8 approx. You could add an extra cup of rice to this to bulk it out, so for 4 cups of rice you'd add 5 cups of water to make the rice. Hope that helps.
Hi Autumn Autumn, thanks for your comment 😊 If you cannot find them then just leave them out. The green ones give off a completely different flavour and aroma. Enjoy!
Hi there D Surrey, thanks for your comment. I normally dont grind the spices to a powder as in pilau rice we use whole spices. But if you wanted to then I would say 1.5 teaspoon would be sufficient to flavour the dish. Hope that helps. Ps you could pop the spices into one of those small muslin bags and then take it out once the rice is cooked. Just another option! 😊
Also how many servinggs roughly does this equate to. I need to make 8 servings so just wondering if I should use 4 cups rice instead and how much water to add into the chicken mix instead.. 5 cups?
All depends on how much people eat. This would happily feed 5/6 people with a healthy portion size but if you're feeding 8 people, it's always better to be left with a little more than to run out! I would use 1.5 chicken or you could use 1 whole chicken and add 2 chicken breasts cut into tikka boti size peices (which I normally do as I've fussy kids who like meat off the bone 🙄) which also works well. Yes 5 cups of water to 4 cups of rice. Hope that helps and I hope you enjoy the end product In sha Allah 😊👍
I know that's the hardest part I guess. Just want to add, since you're cooking 4 cups of rice, increase the onions to 1.1/2 and the salt to 2 tablespoons. In sha Allah it will be perfect. JazakAllah and dua mein yaad! 🙏😊
@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes thanks u so much u are amazing!!u safe my life!!my husbad is from Pk and I always safer to cook your food..because off u I understand hov to cook🥰🥰
All depends on portion size. If all 7 people are adults then quite possibly no. Why not add an extra cup of rice to this recipe which should cover it! So: 4mugs or 1kg rice to 5 mugs of water rather than the 4 in the video and increase salt by 1/2 tablespoon whilst keeping all other ingredients the same. Hope that helps.
This looks amazing! I want to try this on the weekend. However I’m not sure of the oven settings. Could you please tell me what temperature and for how long the rice should be in the oven? Thank you!

Honestly this recipe has not only become a staple in our house, it’s also helped me understand these types of dishes so much more. It really is all down to the colour of those onions! Thank you so much ❤️
What if we fry the chicken in the onion/garlic/ginger mix before adding the tomatoes. Would that not get rid of that chickeny smell better? Would the end result be altered? I like that this recipe is so easy to follow ❤
I tried out this recipe and it turned out amazing! The pulao looked and tasted great, everybody loved it and I've shared your recipe with family and friends. Thank you :)

Hi Dalia, thank you for your comment. So pleased to hear my content is easy and simple to follow. Your kind words mean a lot. 😊 and I hope you enjoyed the recipe once it was cooked.
Absolutely amazing. I've tried so many times to make pilau rice but never quite got it right. I've never been able to make it like mum's but after my first attempt with this recipe it was amazing! It tasted just like her's!!! Thank you so much
Harry, Reading this comment just made my day! So pleased to hear this went down a treat and it tasted like your mums 💜 I'm probably late with this reply but any extra pilau cooked freezes really well. Just so you know for next time.
@My Little Kitchen I'm glad it made your day because I was over the moon! The freezing suggestion is also a really good one and I'll try that next time I end up with a large amount, thank you, thank you, thank you!! 😄 p.s. we tried it with mutton keema and it was amazing!
I’ve been searching for a simple chicken brown rice recipe for so long, my mum passed away 2 years ago and made rice exactly like this. I’ve been searching on UA-cam and came across so many variations where you make yakhni first or something which is just so long! Making it tomorrow In Sha Allah
Hi Lasha, thank you for your comment. Sorry to hear of your loss! ILWIR. I normally never do a yakhni for chicken pilau as it's not needed due to chicken cooking faster than lamb and mutton! This is a wonderful recipe, do let me know how you find it! Enjoy!
On a lesser note. Add less tomato as it can make pelau taste sweet, you don't want to add cumin and other spices before the onions get browned as it does not take longer them to burn, also leave the rice alone in the end no need to keep mixing them till last breath as they will become khichri. All these tips are for beginners.
Very good advice. Its always good to leave the rice alone for a good 10/15 minutes and then to mix it gently. As it is way too hot to mix as soon as you take it off the heat and it will break easily.

@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes thank you so much. Inshallah it goes well! Hard not being able to taste it whilst fasting. :(
I know that's the hardest part I guess. Just want to add, since you're cooking 4 cups of rice, increase the onions to 1.1/2 and the salt to 2 tablespoons. In sha Allah it will be perfect. JazakAllah and dua mein yaad! 🙏😊
Wow I just find your chanel...amazing!!you explain very nicelly....one question when I put to oven 170 heating is ok?
Thank you Agata for your comment. When you put it in the oven make sure it's pre heated to 185C or gas mark 6. Hope that helps 😊
@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes thanks u so much u are amazing!!u safe my life!!my husbad is from Pk and I always safer to cook your food..because off u I understand hov to cook🥰🥰
How many people does this serve ? Am following this recipe tomorrow! Roughly for 7 people . Will three cups of rice be enough x
Thank you!
I mention it at 9:37 in the video :)
Look delicious
Thank you 😊
Seems delicious. I will try tomorrow.
Thank you Wajahat for your comment. Yes definitely do it's wonderful. 😊

Hi there, I also do sometimes, more flavour but mostly use oil.
Made this today, was amazing! Thanks!
Thanks Adil, so pleased to hear you enjoyed this! 😊👍
@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes I steam cooked it by placing foil on top of the rice, then the cloth sealing the lid. Was great!
Perfect! My pot is cast iron so the lid is really heavy and doesnt need the extra foil!

How much would a large chicken weigh? Sorry I'm new to cooking.
Approximately 1.5 - 1.8 kg. I hope that helps.

How much servings does this make ❤️
Hi Anna, thank you for your comment. This will serve all depending on portion sizes 6-8 people. Hope that helps 😊
Nice✌❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
You look so pretty ❤️
Thank you 😊
I made mine just now, and it doesn’t even have a taste 😟. I followed all of the steps and it turned out like this.
I think your onions are a bit burnt & will give a bitter taste.
It certainly didn't give any burnt taste to the dish whatsoever 😊
Could I make this with just breast?? Desperate to try it out
Absolutely
I made this last night. It was the best One Pot, Rice and Chicken meal I've ever made. My Wife and the 3 Year old Loved it. Thank you so much 😊
Glad this was enjoyed. Thanks for sharing 👍
Indian food ❤️❤️❤️
I’m cooking it every Sunday for the past 3 weeks I’m loving it
Honestly this recipe has not only become a staple in our house, it’s also helped me understand these types of dishes so much more. It really is all down to the colour of those onions! Thank you so much ❤️
Hi there, thank you so much for your comment. I'm so pleased to hear that you are enjoying this wonderful recipe 😊🙌
Thank you for this beautiful recipe. God bless you. 🙏👍😘
What if we fry the chicken in the onion/garlic/ginger mix before adding the tomatoes. Would that not get rid of that chickeny smell better? Would the end result be altered? I like that this recipe is so easy to follow ❤
Honestly in my 30+ years of cooking this dish, never has my chicken ever smelled chickeny 😁👍 just follow the recipe and see for yourself 😊
I tried out this recipe and it turned out amazing! The pulao looked and tasted great, everybody loved it and I've shared your recipe with family and friends. Thank you :)
Thanks Vanessa! 😊🙌
This is the chicken pilau recipe I have been searching for 🙌 Thank you!
My pleasure 😊
Your recipes are amazing and the most thorough with details of real life cooking. The explanation of time is most helpful, plus the visuals of how the food should look at each step are more than a girl can ask for! Thanks so much. Am cooking this now and just had to let you know how helpful your recipe has been. xxx
Hi Dalia, thank you for your comment. So pleased to hear my content is easy and simple to follow. Your kind words mean a lot. 😊 and I hope you enjoyed the recipe once it was cooked.
Absolutely, I agree! It is so helpful to be able to see what it should look like at each stage.
Absolutely amazing. I've tried so many times to make pilau rice but never quite got it right. I've never been able to make it like mum's but after my first attempt with this recipe it was amazing! It tasted just like her's!!! Thank you so much
Harry, Reading this comment just made my day! So pleased to hear this went down a treat and it tasted like your mums 💜
I'm probably late with this reply but any extra pilau cooked freezes really well. Just so you know for next time.
@My Little Kitchen I'm glad it made your day because I was over the moon! The freezing suggestion is also a really good one and I'll try that next time I end up with a large amount, thank you, thank you, thank you!! 😄
p.s. we tried it with mutton keema and it was amazing!
Enjoy!
I’m making it now but just wondering where does the heat and spice come from? The whole spices??
Thank you so much for this recipe! It is the most simplest one I found but the most delicious one :) x
Thank you Nimmi P for your comment! Isn't it just! So pleased you enjoyed it! 😊
Add curd after adding chicken and lots of coriander mint and at the end when add rice add 2 lemon juice in it it turns out much better
Thanks for your expert advice! 👍
Very good advice. Its always good to leave the rice alone for a good 10/15 minutes and then to mix it gently. As it is way too hot to mix as soon as you take it off the heat and it will break easily.
