  • This is the process we use to line hone a Inline 6 block. There are multiple steps required to make this a easy job. Do 1 of them wrong and you will regret it. Some may say the cam to crank gear mesh will be drastically affected. Cut the cap .002, the hone will remove metal from the tight side of hole , which is the cap. The crank center line will usually move .001 or less in the downward direction. The cam/ crank is affected less because they are on a 45 degree angle.
The reason to line hone the block. It aligns all the main bearing bores perfectly. After performing, the crank will turn flawlessly and with much less friction.

Another great video, thanks for taking the time to show us your shop's work. I enjoy seeing the inlines getting machined, like Rough said, you can see V8 all the time but the inlines are more interesting to watch.
It reminds me of a 454 that a guy was rebuilding and failed to mark his main caps, after it was torqued it would not spin. Had to take it all apart again and get it line honed to get everything correct again.
    Keep up the great work!

Awesome! I love seeing work on the inlines. You just usually find v8 stuff on UA-cam

Thanks for the video, it goes far more in depth than other videos of align honing.

A hole hog to bore? I guess it works but would be better suited on a lathe with a boring bar between the head/tailstock.

What are you referring to? This is a video about line honing a block. A hole hog?

@@telowe2000 Maybe I'm mistaken. What are you using to turn the hone? It looks like some type of hand drill. I have seen this done using a horizontal mill which did the job nicely. How do you ensure that your bore doesn't get even the slightest wallowed by holding the end with a drill? I think I must misunderstand your video, but watching it again.

@@constitutionalist4391 The drive motor is specifically made for this operation. Mine is a Milwaukee, but it just looks like a typical Milwaukee HD drill. The body and speeds are specific to this Sunnen machine.

    It is ALIGN hone---"line' hone.
