After carefully following the instructions I can confidently say that my rucksack now feels like it's actually a part of my body instead of a suitcase with shoulder straps. Thanks, sir!
On behalf of POGs everywhere, thank you kind Sir. Edit: or "pogues" or whatever else. I didn't serve "in nam" or fought those "bad eggs from the Reich" so it's POG in my understanding. If you're old or care about the spelling or history and still understood me, why is it relevant? Thanks again brother for the help, still the best vid years later and I'm using it before CIF again!
Heck, good intro for anyone that isn't familiar with the MOLLE stuff. That was brand spanking new when I was in and what I did see already had straps built in.
Been in for 6 1/2 years now. Sadly, I still have to watch a UA-cam video everytime I need to put my ruck back together. Lol. This was BY FAR the best ruck sack assembly tutorial that I've found. GREAT JOB and THANK YOU!!!
This video was an absolute God send! The amount of effort that went into showing the exact holes to go through and the awesome visibility throughout, made this video stand above all others I have watched. This is the best step by step, how-to for someone brand new. Thank you for this!
l want to thank all of you for your service and the sacrifices that you and your families make. I just got one of these surplus today ,and thought that it sure was noisy with all the creaking, so I grabbed the can of silicone spray that I was using on the snaps and gave all the spots where the straps meet the frame a squirt and it is now squeak free, nice and quiet. I hope this helps someone stay stealthy and a degree safer. God bless you all, come home safe.
After years in SOF, I never had a molle ruck. Got one issued to me at my last assignment before retirement. CIF said I had to turn it back in assembled. Your video saved my butt! Thanks!
I been in for 6 and a half years and only got issued assembled rucks. My new roommate got a disassembled one and I'm like wtf? This made it easy. Thanks bro.
Thank you for your help with the video. It is the best how to video I have ever used. With this video, you saved me yelling and screaming all day tiring to put the rucksack together.
Excellent excellent video! No superfluous babbling just a well lit sharp video and clear instructions. One of the best instructional videos on You Tube for this rucksack system! Bravo and TangoYankeeVictorMike!
Just bought one of these from a surplus store in Finland and will strip it down and re-do it next week when it arrives. Really appreciate the clear instructions! Will be a great practice ruck while training up for enlisting :)
This trainer talked to me as if I was the only one in the room, what a class act. Once again a pleasure to belong to a fraternity of like minded gentleman.
Thank you thank you! Great step by step process. I purchased a rucksack for my 72-hour bug out bag; it came with the 2 sustainment bags but no shoulder harness, frame, or belt. Now I know what you look for to complete. This video was perfect
I watched this video couple times. I had purchased a rucksack and side pouches a year ago to use but sat in closet. I ordered from Sportsman Guide and they had the frame, shoulder harness, and belt in stock. I received parts today and assembled it all thanks to your help. Now I have a better bug out bag.
I disassembled my ruck sack just to see how different it was set up and it was all jacked up. I put it together how you did, now it feels way better. I’m going on a ruck march tomorrow 👌🏽
for the first time since watching you tubes, the person doing the video actually knew what the f he was doing. most ether was screwing with the camera or back tracking and had no idea what names of items were. great video.
I've been using the same ruck for 5 years. I'm 5'4 my ruck has always fit me just awful. Decided to finally tear it apart and put it together to my body size. The last person to use this ruck has it sized up to the largest possible. No wonder it always felt like crap! Thank you for this video
I’m 5’6” and my ruck feels a little low. When you adjusted yours, did you simply just reattach the ruck in higher slots on the frame? Did that help? I’m getting ready to take mine apart and put it together again. I was told to put the waist belt upside down so it doesn’t press against my upper butt since the bag itself sits low. Did you do that as well? I swear us short guys got the short end of the stick with this gear lol
Thank you so much this helped a ton!! I just got to CST and was told I couldn’t use my medium ruck and got issued a big one I’ve never used before😅 got it put together quickly bc of you!
Getting all setup on bct and ait I didn’t learn how to properly put it together but thanks to this video I was able to do it myself and much better than the other rucks I used. Thank you for the video! God bless
This is awesome! Thank you! I'm going on an over night hunt and wanted to grab one of these systems to fit my tree climbing gear plus tent and over night stuff. Putting all of it together was holding me back from buying it.
I first watched this when I got to my unit. My sgt was impressed that I showed initiative and competence before being instructed. Now I am watching as a civilian to assemble my army ruck I scored off facebook. I have come full circle lol
Hey, very well made video. It was descriptive, clear and concise. I appreciate how you took the time to explain the setup process. I will be referring this video to all those who ask me on how to setup a ruck. Hoo-ah!
Very helpful with set-up = thanks. Slightly different towards the end since the large rucksack I had utilized 4 straps each side to attach to the frame but getting to that point was definitely enhanced via your demo!
Cool, thank you. I prefer my ILBE with the assault pack, but I still love those sustainment pouches. I even bought an extra 2 pack for use with some chest rigs ( the others I use with my ILBE, it's APB03 assault pack, and certain rucks ). I snap the pouch tabs ( which gives you a loop, so to speak ) and fish lengths of paracord onto the crossed shoulder straps of certain chest rigs, make a couple of square and other knots to secure them on the chest rig's shoulder straps, and do the same thing with the bottom set of pouch loops and secure the bases of the pouches onto the horizontal belt of the chest rigs. I especially do this when I don't want to put on a ruck but want to carry a day or two's worth of extra meds, gear, ammo, mags, and so-on. They can be stuffed full of so much stuff they look deformed and I've still got room; two of those sustainment pouches is like having an assault pack, especially if you know how to pack them right. Since you have experience with this ruck ( probably because of military use, I'm guessing ? ), would this ruck, complete system with all components except for the radio pouch, which I already have, be a good investment for a collection of societal collapse ( the so-called SHTF/WROL scenario ) gear? I ask because Coleman's Surplus ( same place I get the sustainment pouches and 200 round SAW gunner pouches [the 200 round SAW gunner pouches are great for carrying 6 extra rifle mags, usually AK 30s for me] ) has the complete system for $70. It's a toss up between the MOLLE II Large Ruck shown here and the huge Belgian M65 "jigsaw camo" ruck, I'm sure you've seen them, with zippered on side pouches that can be zipped together to make an assault pack and the main ruck that's at least 100 liters, for $65 on another surplus vendor. I'm buying 1 or the other and I've heard some U.S. Army soldiers say the ruck shown here sucks and others say it's great. I generally stick with surplus, as it's generally superior to civilian gear in every way, for gear that will always come thru for me ( I've also heard that about the ALICE rucks, which I don't care for. People either say they are the best ruck the U.S. military has fielded, or that ALICE sucks. I don't think ALICE sucks, it's just not a ruck I would choose ). If you were to get a large ruck, would you choose the MOLLE II Large Ruck, or the Belgian, huge ( I think it's the M65 ) ruck?
I think that the two metal loops are supposed to tighten the straps. To tighten it you have to pull the strap through both loops and then go back like you did. But first you have to go above the first loop and then trough the second. So if the strap is coming from your left side you want it to go through the loops, above the right loop and through the left again. I might be wrong but it's a pretty common way for belts here in Germany.
Same as what I was thinking. I saw it done that way in a different video, seems like it would hold the straps better and prevent the velcro from tearing off.
You're right! I was going to show that technique as another option but decided otherwise just to keep things simple. My shoulder straps have never loosened up with my technique so I figured I would share that with everyone. Here's why they don't loosen up: When loaded, the rucksack applies pressure on the velcro; that avoids the velcro from coming loose and keeps that straps tight. Also, I find it much harder to tighten the straps with the "loop-through" method you mentioned because it won't budge. It won't tighten easily nor loosen easily. So it takes a lot more work and a pair pliers to tighten it. I feel like it's a lot more work for not much gain. This is why I favored the simple method, so that soldiers can assemble their rucksacks without much hassle. I very much appreciate your feedback! You made a very solid point!
Yeah I’ve never had an issue with doing it the way it was done in the video. Always has held tight. Plus it’s less hassle if you’ve gotta take it apart to clean.
Thanks for the help I appreciate it. A small word of advice though I would slow it down a little bit so your viewers can follow along because it was very fast paced and I had to pause and rewind the video at least 10-15 times.
Thank you so much for this! Got my rucksack from CIF disassembled and figured it would be a lot more beneficial to me to learn from the internet than watch someone else do it for me. This helped a lot!
Thanks for this. You’re the best! Sportsman’s Guide ships these completely disassembled. Mine was missing the last pair of buckles & sustainment pouches for $53. 🇺🇸🗽
In the bottom of the pack, there is are two zippered flaps that make up the bottom, but they also have eyelet holes like you could lace it ups as well. Have you got any idea what those eyelets are for?
I noticed you did not put the vertical compression straps through the frame...I find they compress the rucksack down to the frame really well when combined with the 6 horizontal compression straps. Feeding the lower half of the vertical compression strap through the bag is challenging--I can only push the strap partly through in with my finger then I have to use pliers to pull it the rest of the way. For the top half of the vertical compression strap, there is a ring I am leaving unused...
Thank you this shit helped soo much my ruck was set up when i got it and it was fucked and carrying it was a bitch and heavy now i can ruck 50lb no problem barely feel it this set up is the shit
I have that frame & MOLLE rucksack can you link to shoulder straps & other gear needed to attach rucksack? My father makes me haul his 30 Aut 6 ammo when we hunt deer, tryna take some of that load off shoulders, good vidjust wish I could find what I need for frame. Got it Sportsmans guide but they don’t have the other stuff atm.
I bought a second-hand backpack that had been in bags for a couple of years and it stinks a lot afterwards. I tried to soak it 2 times with washing gel, I also washed the backpack in the washing machine for the third time, but the smell did not completely go away. The inner lining is yellowish in color and if you start picking it with your fingernail, it starts to crumble and feels rather vile to the touch. Tell me, please, on all backpacks, this inner lining crumbles and has a rubberized base?
i was looking into getting this pack and i was wondering if its possible to not run the frame and just wear it like a backpack like the alice pack could?
I never served but I bought one of these years ago at a surplus store and have used it for backpacking ever since. One question: my ruck doesn't have the female Fastex buckles that you add at 10:04, the webbing is just looped through the frame. What are those buckles for? Just curious.
I broke a couple of the frames. Great for camping but never took it to combat in Iraq. This stayed inside our vehicles during foot patrols and combat operations as for personal gear. We took some spare rucksacks to carry more ammo for M240s and batteries. Everybody carried their Assault Packs instead along with one extra drum for the M249 per man. Much lighter when you have to move fast when receiving fire or the entire unit is moving dismounted. Have all the shit you need and move fast.
Was using this to assemble my ruck, realized it was missing several parts. Thanks CIF
I did as well

I think that the two metal loops are supposed to tighten the straps.
To tighten it you have to pull the strap through both loops and then go back like you did.
But first you have to go above the first loop and then trough the second.
So if the strap is coming from your left side you want it to go through the loops, above the right loop and through the left again.
I might be wrong but it's a pretty common way for belts here in Germany.
Same as what I was thinking. I saw it done that way in a different video, seems like it would hold the straps better and prevent the velcro from tearing off.
Ian Hou same thought too. It basically is a tiny version of a double ring belt buckle.
This is why I favored the simple method, so that soldiers can assemble their rucksacks without much hassle.

THANK YOU! I have a 12 mile ruck coming up.
You're welcome! I hope it went well!
Very helpful! My only criticism is please slow down 😁
I had to pause and rewind quite a bit. But once again thank you for making this video 👍🏾
Good to hear actual experience
