I highly recommend using the services provided by Troy to remove the paint chips from your fuel pumps. My engine had a low pressure pump issue. My local boat dealer wanted to charge me over $1600 to replace the fuel pumps (low and high). I sent everything to Troy following his step by step instructions. Within a very short time I received the whole assembly back completely cleaned and with new high and low pressure pumps. I installed it and the boat runs great! Troy will reply to to your emails and answer all questions and best of all it was all under $400. Thank you Troy for your service and videos. You really saved me a lot of $$$.
I've emailed him several times with no reply... I know he was moving and his site says check back in August. Want to buy his refurbished as well for my 4.3 GXI
I ordered a refurb unit from Troy and installed today. These videos helped guide me successfully through the process and Troy helped me in real time with some issues via email. Long story short, success! I can’t say enough good things about how I helpful all of this was, and boat now runs great (Volvo penta 5.0 gxi).
Thank you, Troy! My engine is 18 years old, and the fuel cell is at least 15 years old. Nonetheless, it came off just as you showed, with relative ease. This is a terrific video. Thank you! I’m very happy to see that your daughter’s treatment and surgery(ies) are going well. Best wishes to your family.
Great video! Thank you! It was nearly as easy as you showed in the video even though my fuel pump has been on for around 14 years, at least. Your videos are terrific.
Important safety tip, make sure the pressure is released from the fuel rail before loosening the high pressure connector to avoid getting sprayed in the face with gas.
external fuel pressure gauge that you connect to the rail has a pressure release valve and hose to drain gas. Pressure gauge was fairly inexpensive, around $15.
I appreciate this video. I was able to go through the process without any difficulty at all. Unforturnately, I still have the origional problem. Engine stalls immediately after start. Stays running with starting fluid. Do you have any ideas?
For A 20' Chapparel with 5.0 GM Merc Cruiser the fuel pump assembly is mounted in the bottom rear of the engine making it unserviceable. Can this VOLVO assembly be retrofitted and mounted above the fuel tank with new high pressure line to the fuel rail and a return line? On my engine, the alternator occupies that position in front end accressory drive.
Troy, Can you help me? I have a 1997 four winns horizon 200 with a volvo penta 5.7 GLI. It looks like the fuel pump is split up, High side in the back of engine and Low side in front. Also the schrader valve for both high and low look to be the same size. Does this all sound correct to you. I cant find anything that verifies this similarity for the same size schrader valve of High and low and the pumps not located in same spot. Please help. Thank you
Wanted to ask. Boat starts and sits running for 5-10 mins no issues then just stops, no engine alarms. Leave it for a minute or so and it starts again before stopping again. Any suggestions welcome, not mechanical so help appreciated.
I have a volvo penta D1-20 that suddenly ran erratically, lost power, idled fast making a grumbling sound.. I stopped then started for it a moment..the 2nd time it wouldn't crank? No warning lights? cooling system ok and oil pressure ok...My 1st thought was a spun bearing journal...Would it be possible for it to be a governor assy problem...Any advice welcome.
Starting January 2018 I will be offering a Core Trade In Program. I have a number of OEM Assemblies ready to go with New aftermarket LP and HP pumps installed. This will speed up the turn around time and enable you to have a New Assembly ready to go. The charge will be $525.00 and I will give you a core refund for your pump assembly which will be refunded upon receipt. The core refund will be based on Fresh Water ($75) or Salt Water ($25). Of course I will still offer the usual refurbish service of your original assembly if requested. Thank You
The LP pump draws fuel from the fuel tank and fills the fuel cell in the assembly. The HP pump draws from the fuel cell and supplys pressure to the fuel rail or throttle body which is then regulated down by the fuel pressure regulator
The problem I’m having is the boat at top speed falls on its face I them pull back throttle and resume reg speed no problem only when I try to run it at full speed it does that
Have you checked your low and high fuel pressures? You can also remove your fuel filter and check the fuel filter seat to see if it has peeling paint and you can remove the High Pressure pump and check the screen. These are all things that can be done while still mounted on the motor. Feel free to contact me at ManCaveMechanic@gmail.com

No need to remove clips on electrical connections, just push in on clip and then connection will separate.
For the electrical connections, push the clips in to disconnect no need to remove them.
Great job with video. Thank-you for posting.
What is the line Troy is working on at 4:20 in the video ?

Same problem here, did you figure out the solution?
Did you have to release the pressure in the fuel system before disconnecting the fuel lines?
Thank you for watching. Spring is here and we are back in business. Please see ManCaveMechanic.com for products and services.
I have a 8.1 gii-f can you rebuild a pump assembly for that? I can’t find replacement anywhere.
Any tricks on getting won't budge fuel rails off the pump?
Great Video. Have you done one on Oil Changes for the Volvo Penta?
I have not. It is not bad if you have the right pump

Wish these said which motor your working in. None of these apply to a an older 3.0

Whats the difference in function of a high pressure and low pressure pumps besides producing differences pressures?
The LP draws from the fuel tank and fills the fuel cell. The HP draws from the fuel cell and supplies your fuel rail
The LP pump draws fuel from the fuel tank and fills the fuel cell in the assembly. The HP pump draws from the fuel cell and supplys pressure to the fuel rail or throttle body which is then regulated down by the fuel pressure regulator
Can you charge $300 for the pump?
Would the fuel pump cause the motor to run hot at a higher rpm? Also would it cause the motor to run in limp mode?
Usually the "engine protection mode" of operation will continue until the overheat/low oil pressure problem is corrected.
The problem I’m having is the boat at top speed falls on its face I them pull back throttle and resume reg speed no problem only when I try to run it at full speed it does that
