    The slight delay in his speech pattern is a hallmark of most non-native English speakers. Delaying while the brain in translating back and forth between two languages. He has a great sense of humor though, typical Pinoy, always ready to smile and crack a joke.

    I had to look up Kuya Lord’s hometown halfway through the video because it just sounded soooo much like mine and the crazy thing is that we do come from the same place - Lucena City, Quezon Province. I totally get what he means about trying to start something new on his own and wanting to see how far it can take him - and what a journey it’s been! I can’t wait to visit Kuya Lord one day and taste his food, it looks bomb 💣

    As a Filipino, I think Filipino-Americans really are made ignorant of their homeland's culture by what he said at the start, that's why they have cultural identity crisis, some choose to identify as Pacific Islanders or Latinos, but really we have Southeast Asian culture.

    No sugar coating from me. We have tried this place when we saw it in the LA 101 guide. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The flavors were a bit off for us. It’s been awhile so I don’t exactly remember what we found wrong with the food but for someone who regularly spends $$$/week eating at some of the most hyped up places in LA, it’s not for me/us😕 spoon and pork we find a little better😊

    • @onlywheretoeat
      @onlywheretoeat  Рік тому +2

      Well, I’m glad that you enjoyed the Filipino cuisine to some extent with spoon and pork. Which speaks to the fact that different flavors or for different people. Our channel doesn’t work if we don’t allow there to be some type of honesty. So we appreciate you even leaving your thoughts and taking a look at this video. All these places are just suggestions and very hard to guarantee what everyone will like, but I guess there in lies the point of this channel. To find different variations of cuisine and hopefully one of these restaurants will be one of the ones you fall in love with! Let’s see if you enjoy our next story✊

    • @onlywheretoeat
      @onlywheretoeat  Рік тому

      Seems to be a misunderstanding about what makes something gourmet. So for clarity.
      Gourmet food is any food of high quality and/or rarity, crafted to deliver exquisite taste and presented in a pleasing fashion. Ingredients that are rare or hard to cultivate on one continent, thus considered gourmet, can be common on another.
      Not only is Chef Maynard cooking Filipino food which is a rarity in the states in most places. He is also using culinary techniques from French and Italian training in order to infuse his Filipino food with a different flare. Gourmet does not require a price point.
