This was Celine's dream, Barbra was her musical and career idol and she wanted to sing with Barbra. Barbra found this out and said, well, I"m going to make it happen and she did!
Barbra was a legend while Celine was still in knickers. Love them both but Barbra is the absolute Queen of everything! Having an amazing career of music, acting, directing producing and writing, there just isn’t anyone equal . So glad they made this , it’s an amazing performance!

Yeah, Barbra is a total legend. I felt like Celine was trying to outsing Barbra (good luck with that). I know she has talent, but I just can't take to her. Think its the try too hard to be noticed thing. Bit of a pain in the ass.

They are 2 of the greatest voices. So please don't put Celine down as a wanna be in trying to out. Do somebody you are being really ridiculous right now... I'm American, but I'll tell you something. The only person in that whole thing was American was Barbara. Strisant, so guess what she loved doing this with Celine. For one reason because she knew selene had a voice. And it doesn't matter what you think. You cannot deny that performance and there was no ego in there....
@@samic1051 It matters even less to me what you think. It's an opinion that I am entitled to just as you are entitled to yours. Please try to get your point across without being rude to other contributors because you don't agree. I appreciate Celine's voice but Barbra is sublime. Like I said - an opinion. You can agree or disagree but try to do it civilly. Ego is something that I do associate with Celine. It's just the way she comes across to me, needing to be noticed. That observation does not detract from her talent . I am allowed to not be a fan. I love some of her songs but just didn't really get into her music.

Just a suggestion! Go back to Streisands early singing career in the 60’s and listen to ‘Happy Days Are Here Again’ recorded in 1963 when she was just 21 and featured on her first recorded album. Listen to how massive notes fuse and blend into phrases with no inhalation of breath. Astounding! Next dip into the glory golden years and ‘New York State of Mind’. Recorded in 1977 at the age of 35 this track is vocal gymnastics at their best. Written by Billy Joel his mother is reputed to have declared he’d become famous now that Streisand had recorded his song! Finally, take a listen of my video I posted when I went to see her in Hyde Park, London in 2019, aged almost 80 singing the Judy Garland classic ‘The man that got away’. These 3 songs alone will show you exactly why this lady has the fan base she does, has endured for SEVEN decades and is quite simply…. A global icon!
Then consider.. she never actually took a singing lesson in her life.

Celine had some big shoes to follow. 😊 I’ve been a Barbra fan for as long as I can remember and I’m 69 yrs old. I saw her in Vegas New Years Eve 1997 at the MGM. Everybody that was anybody was there. It was amazing 🎉🎉🎉 There will never be another Barbra ❤❤❤
I was there too! (But it was NYE 93/94. This song came out in '97😊). The collective anticipation of nearly 17,000 people waiting for Barbra to step back onto the concert stage after 27 years was amazing!

Barbara Streisand is the greatest female singer ever, full stop. Her only successor is our Celine (Canadian) who worshipped Barbara her whole life and said this duet was a dream come true. Barbara is very generous & encouraging of other performers and two amazing duets of hers are unexpected magic - I Finally Found Someone with Bryan Adams and What Kind of Fool & Guilty with Barry Gibb (he produced one of her best albums, wrote most of the songs & dueted on two, both mega hits).

This song is actually a conversation between a mother and her daughter... it was written by David Foster, his wife, Linda, and Celine specifically for a duet with Celine's idol, Barbra. Since there is a 26-year difference in age, the song's lyrics were perfect.
Now, if you're ready for another vocal tennis match...a must is another smash hit in the day... between Barbra and Disco Queen, Donna Summer on "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)". Looking forward to it.

I liked the "stank face" when they did the fusion! Celine has said on a number of occasions that her mother is her personal idol, Barbra her professoinal idol. There's a behind the scenes video of them chatting here on UA-cam. Barbra and Donna Summer play some note tennis on their duet "Enough is Enough" as well.

I was friends with a guy who escorted Barbra to a function and said she was one of the nicest people he had ever met. So, not only was she arguably the best female pop singer ever, she might be the nicest celebrity as well.

Then go back and listen to Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer singing “enough is enough” but make sure you listen to the long version which is on Barbra Streisand’s “wer” album and I think it’s on Donna’s Greatest Hits album but there’s a short and a long version and make sure you listen to the long version - there are vocal gymnastics as far as the eye can see in that one

Check out the studio version of Celine….ALL BY MYSELF…..and Barbra’s LIVE version of MY MAN….vocal olympics. Oh, and a Xmas. request…..the last song Freddie ever wrote….he was at his home in Switzerland….was suffering..and losing his eyesight……his sister framed the handwritten lyrics….
Despite knowing he was dying and with such suffering he looked out his window and still saw beauty. The song is called A WINTER’S TALE.

I from canada, I just have to say Barbara is the only one from the US there. The rest are canadian but that does not matter, I grew up in the late 60s and my father loved Barbara Streisand alpha's Gerald, Frank Sinatra all the greats, and I could not think of any 2 female voices of that stature, then Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand.. I think 2 of the best singers in the world. And that's hard cause I gotta add Whitney Houston to that. So so one's not better than the other is just Barbara. Definitely had way more prestige. Shall we say but? Nobody can say celine cannot match.... You can tell they all had fun. But it's so difficult because there's so many greats...
