People were complaining about last week's episode with the doctor. That episode was brilliant compared to this.
I think they fixated on a cartoon simplicity of the gorn and didn't think how it would retcon the original series episode the arena. And it does
How could Kirk fight a gorn up close, when they can "now" spit acid that stings but also infects you with gorn eggs they grow and mature and bust out of you.
This is a mess and is proving the negative criticism of this show to be worth listening to.

I have been wondering who is going to play Scotty and McCoy.. I hope they get Chris Doohan to do his father's roll as Scotty. That would be epic ! The other characters we need to worry about is #1, The Helm Chick forgot her name. Also how does DR. MCBanga does he get transferred or demoted ?
in the pilot episode (the cage) there was another doctor before McCoy. was an old man

Dr Mbenga transfers to Vulcan to study Vulcan medicine in actual practice. He’s relieved by an older white Dr. Kirk brings Dr McCoy with him. Scotty came on the ENTERPRISE shortly before or after Kirk takes command.

I noticed that you don't see them actually walking out of the shuttle. I'm guessing that's because they haven't built a life-sized exterior of it yet. Looks like the shuttles behind them are part of the LED wall.
I’m surprised they haven’t turned “indeed” or “logic suggest” into a drinking game yet.
GOOD SCENE, How does the landing Party communicate for rescue if they can't get a signal out to Enterprise? OK they put beacons on the USS Peregrine THEN pilot the shuttles back up to Enterprise. The Enterprise locks in on beacons with wide tractor beam then lifts it to orbit.
I think they're using that huge LED wall in their Toronto studios for this sequence.
So is Scotty gonna come aboard now ? Who's gonna play him ? Hope we get him by the end of this episode
Alex kurtzman will make sure it is cast right. You have to give that to him .
He cast pike,Spock, Ortegas, nurse chapel, number one, Hemmer, all those actors.
That is probably his greatest strength there , in all honesty.

This was Ridely Scott's Alien squeezed into Star Trek, including Alien3's Ellen Ripley jumping off into the vat of molten metal to kill the alien parasite inside her.
But yes, this did feel like a sendoff episode to at least three people - Hemmer, Uhura (we know she will return) and La'an....may be this was written as the last episode of the series before it was renewed or something?
Please tell me they are recasting Montgomery "Scotty" Scott for Season 2?? They have recast James T Kirk already, so one more recasting is not unthinkable.

This show is not that good. This episode was not scary or was it original. It didn't do anything for the gorn.
It feels like a desperate attempt to make them the bestest villain in star trek. Up their with the Borg, Klingon.......uh no, not quite.
This was not good. It makes you think ,so it's better than discovery and picard????

I don't understand the writing of this show. The choices they made. The decisions they made. It is already feels like there winging it.

They will have to do something to the new characters within the first or second seasons cause they don't fit in with TOS time line

This is a few years before TOS, money is still a thing for a few decades more (until TNG et al).
You may be right. I've been doing my best to keep track of the timelines in so many ST series that I must have missed that one. I could have sworn that cash was done with buy the year 2150--"Star Trek: Enterprise." Thanks.
@@alonenjersey You're welcome, and yes, it can be confusing. Part of the problem, IMO, is that there are people writing for the franchise now who don't know anything before TNG, DS9 et al, and that some things weren't always part of the setting. So a lot of stuff that was actually new in 80s/90s Trek gets back-ported into shows set around or before TOS.

I think it is beyond stupid to be killing off main characters is in show like this. It's not the walking dead, it's star trek. Keep your core characters! We haven't even gotten through the first season yet. This was seriously a rediculously bad episode.

I had a feeling Hemmer wouldn't survive even before Pike's Captaincy was over. I'm just a tad shocked he got the axe earlier than I thought he would. He's a great character, for sure - but I have a feeling that he or someone after him becomes Montgomery Scott's predecessor. It might also be possible that Hemmer's death paved the way for Scotty's introduction to Pike's crew in season 2. If I remember correctly; Scotty, Uhura, Spock, M'Benga, Chapel, and Una, were the ones that made it out alive along with Pike from his "original" crew. Future Captain James T Kirk basically "inherited" 90 percent of Pike's main crew with the exception of Una, Ortegas, and Singh.
@@obsidiansands I knew some characters didn't have plot armour, Una, Hemmer a d Singh mainly but I didn't think they'd kill Hemmer this early in the show... he was a very decent character but maybe they didn't know what to do with a blind pacifist... I hate it...

Killing Hemmer was a colossal mistake. I hope the actor feels the fan love and appreciation. He was short shifted.
Alex kurtzman is a terrible show runner. He makes awful decisions. I don't trust him with the gorn, which he already messed up. I don't trust him with Kirk. I don't trust him with the quality this series going forward.
You mean like the first season of TNG?
