Wow - I used to have a Gibson GA-83s in 1963/64 - unfortunately I sold it in 1965. Fortunately, however, I still have my 1962 Gibson ES335TD. Gibson guitar and Gibson amp - the best match!
great, you´ve got many gibson amps, I missing an GA 400 super long time ago I had the big chance to check out one and never forget this unique sound with a 60ties strat so crisp and harmonic distortion and never comparable with any other amp.
That has *such* a pink floyd-y feel to it. Yeah, I know: not a Gilmour axe, nor a Gilmour amp... But that set-up has such a psychedelic vibe to it. Mesmerizing.
That Gibson amp sounds nice. Wouldn't have a cost a fortune in it's day, probably even more so now with how rare they are. I'd imagine not a lot of musician would have been able to afford something like this in it's hey day.
Thank you, Johan and friend for the riffs and demo. I just finished a review from another channel, playing a beautiful burst with distortion from beginning to end. Thanks for showing respect to the instruments.
Superb stuff gentlemen! Weird to see anything but a Strat in Simon's hands, but you both made her sing 👍😎 I have a '82 ES-335 Cherry and a 1955 Gibson GA 40 amp. Love the swirly tones you are getting out of this stereo Gibson amp. They don't get much love, but can sound fantastic. God bless and rock on bro 🎸🇺🇸👏
That guitar and amp together are brilliant. When you switched that amp into the stereo trem, it reminded me how much I'd love a stereo Magnatone some day. Looking forward to the video on the amp, quite the unique layout there! :)
Hi, Johan! Yeah, this is THE SOUND! I was working with some stereo-amps, like Rocktron and Rolland Jazz Chorus. Rolland was pretty good, but Rocktron wasn't to much cool. Maybe this is the first Gibson's amplifier I see. Must be great for the clean reverb sounds. Interesting stuff! See you, Zigfrid
Only 278 of those amps were made. Can't find one for sale, but last few to switch hands in USA went for $2,000+. The Johan factor will probably make them $4k now !!!
Beautiful instrument, very cool amp! Sweet ass riffs 🤘 I’m still waiting for you guys to start releasing stuff on records/streaming. Looking forward to the amp video 👍
Awesome amp, very rare. Gibson / Trace Elliot I believe tried to revive the stereo guitar amp, but I don't think it went over too well. I could be wrong.
Killer! Love how the stereo spread treats those dirty chords. :) How often do you mix tones by playing through more than one amp? Gotten into that recently and I wonder if that could be an episode in and of itself? Best amps to use, tones to combine, mono vs. stereo amps, mono vs. stereo guitars. Perhaps?
I have always thought it is odd that people do not play in stereo! Now this equipment you are demoing is fantastic, there is no doubt about it. BUT IMO you can get a super nice wide stereo sound by just using two amps of the same model and splitting the guitar cable into two. It is smart to put it through effects for subtle stereo reverb, delay, chorus ect. I do not understand the concept of a stereo guitar yet, I think I have some reading to do :)
That and the 355s have mother of pearl block inlays, ebony fingerboard, multi-ply binding on the body, headstock, and f-holes. Also, most were wired for stereo, and also typically had a bigsby (late 50s) or the lyre vibrola in the early sixties all the way into the late 70s.
My experience with the ES-345 (of which I have entirely too much!) is that if you are going to use it without a stereo setup, you need it rewired to mono. Otherwise you get weak tone. And the varitone switch...about that. The standard humbucker wiring position sounds nice. Every other position degrades tone to various levels. It's actually not an improvement on the guitar's tone in any way in any setting.
its good not magic I can get sweet tones from a vintage squire and vox fresh strings help alot,,,,,,,,the standard gibson humbucker sounds the best to me a gibson maghony no maple in it sounds the warmest........to many players they should only allow 100 on Earth.......that would make it more valuable to play there is to much music,,,,,,,,,,plus noot many people care anymore;;;;;;;the world changed
@@jerryjohnson575 Then if you have that much experience under your belt you should realize that no "standard" Gibson humbucker even comes close to the PAFs and Patent No. pickups of the late 50's and 60's.
Actually not a good sounding amp at all and the Varitone is all but unusable other than one setting (3 if I remember from my Lucille). Gibson basically took Fender's idea to use variable capacitors to emulate pickups a la the Esquire.
We need "Johan says.....LETS GO" tshirts!
Greetings Johan,

I agree, Johan, if you released products I am certain loads would buy, to support the wonderful work you put in!
If take a coffee mug!

Johan would have to approve it first of course...
I am blessed to own a 1973 ES-355. Boy would I love to have one of these Gibson amps!!

Such a huge tone.... Can't beat tubes!
Thanks Patrik! Amen to that
Hey, that's a really cool setup! And the sound!!! Just beautiful! Takes me back to the 60's!
Every time, one second before the video loads, I hear “Hi” in my head.

This guitar is well worth its price. The great amp is the perfect 'evening makeup' for her !
Wow, this amp sounds mesmerizing! Great sounding rig!
One of the best videos you've done to date! I loved both the amp and the guitar! Hello from San Antonio, Texas!
My favorite tones, ever, from a Johan video. That amp is insane.
Some of those old Gibson amps are awesome.
Indeed!
Awesome Awesome Awesome, that 345 is just perfect, and would love more on that amp, i am a huge fan of old Gibson amps. TY TY again Johan.
At 4:16 it gets funky , Gibson should bring this stuff back , the Amps and the switching
I really like that amp. Of course y'all made it sound awesome.🍻
Goddamn, what a sweet guitar! That amp is killer too! Rock on!

My dream guitar ever since I saw Marty Mcfly playing one.
Nice I have been wanting to hear some of these old Gibson amps. They are the most affordable vintage amps right now.
Where? On the Antarctica Craigslist classifieds?
@@auntjenifer7774 Shops. A specific one in Seattle always has them for under $1200
Johan, you get your hands on some really neat gear! Thanks for sharing! I love this channel.
That guitar looks just like new! I really love that amp!
" That's a Great Vintage Setup!"
Well done and thanks for sharing brothers! Be Well Simon and Johan!
Have a great day brother!
Great sounds Johan

Fantastic video Johan and Simon, just love guitar in stereo. And it probably sound even better in the room!!
Man that guitar and amp sound awesome!!! You got some great tones out of that rig...

Beautiful Johan! Man you got some wonderful guitars these days (1960 LP etc). And the rate Gibson amp is cool too
Awesome amp Johan!
When you dial up the gain, mmm so good
Sweetness to my ears! great demo!

No wonder they're so few made I probably cost Gibson a lot of money to make so it makes sense that there's only 278 made think about it.
aunt jenifer idk about that...
Beatufilu piece, man. It's one of my favorite guitars ever.
Killer riffs too.
Keep it up, mate.
One of my all time fave guitars.
My mate has a lovely 63’ 355
Great tones... its got everything covered from a love story to a horror movie ...cool vibe
Love the Amp
Both Pickups Position 5 was a very interesting tone, would be fun to play with!
I would be thoroughly satisfied if this was my desert-island rig right here!
I remember seeing gary moore using a gibson amp on the cover of one of his albums, this thing sounds amazing.
Thanks! Love Gary Moore
wooow...what a sound. great combo
Great sounds as usual
Loved this vídeo, thanks my friend!
You should write a book about getting the best tones using any guitar and any amp. You could even make an Argos or Amazon starter combo sound amazing!
Both pick ups position 1 sounded great, kinda neil young territory. Is it Wednesday yet?keep em coming johan thanks brah
Beautiful instrument, very cool amp! Sweet ass riffs 🤘 I’m still waiting for you guys to start releasing stuff on records/streaming. Looking forward to the amp video 👍
Nice. Do I see a cherry sunburst Les Paul with P90-s???
Gonna search for one of those amps RIGHT NOW !!!
Cheers Byron!
What crazy amp !
:-)
Ace, yet again.
The amp is gold. Very Neil Young sounding guitar. Was thinking about putting a varitone switch on a Telecaster. Just can't make up my mind.
Looks like the original cable too.
Would like to hear stereo foot pedals thru this, bet it would be awesome.

Four or five notes into the demo and I'm already in love with the tone. So is the difference between the 335 and the 345 the 'varitone' function?

2:40 is real Tres Hombres era ZZ Top
That picking what Simon plays sounds so much like The Masterplan by Oasis. So, I need to know where Noel stole it from lol
sounds like the chord(s) from house of the rising sun ,a bit too
WOW!!! That’s my dream guitar. Beautiful sounding amp too!
I think I never clicked on a notification that quick ! ^^
Thanks man, glad to hear it!
Check out the marshall micro bass 3505 and the Marshall b25 mkll
Hey ! Where did you find Freddie King`s guitar ?
A friend of mine has it :-)
Did Gibson ever make a stereo les Paul?
original cable?
That's ' VARITONE '
Thanks!
