You damn sure got that all right,Willie! I saw Mountain in 1970 at Appalachian State University in Boone,N.C.. .. ranks as one of the best in my over 50 years attending live concerts
I can remember hearing this song for the first time , and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up ! And mountain was one of my favorite bands , back in 1970 , I saw them way back in the day , at a college, in md . And his hair was still , black , and he was like , “the angus young” , of his day ! But you know what , I don’t think , that Mountain, or Leslie West , are in the R&R hall of fame , and that is very , very , SAD ! R.I.P. LESLIE WEST , you were the mountain , and still are in my world !
@@robjones8733 when you think about it , I sorta agree with ya ! But Leslie had more , true feeling for leads , in two fingers , more than any zack Wylie , or any other sheddder that ever lived , his talent went way beyond , almost anybody today , he made that guitar , talk , cry , I could go on and on . But I tried my best to get his phrasing , down way back in the mid 70’s , but I saw him down in a collage in md . And he was standing on a riser on the floor , about a foot off the ground , and I was right in front of him , the way he bent strings , and how his fingers just seemed to caress the strings , he was by far one of my first “guitar hero’s” for a long time ! And still is .
My wife and I were in Atlanta walking around in the underground, I heard this song start and i knew exactly who it was. We rushed to the sound of the music and were able to watch him and the band play from a walkway above the bar. I will never forget that as long as l live it was awesome. Thanks for the memories .
Ol'Leslie West despite all the shit that happened to him, he had a great life. A fine young wife that adored him , he played Woodstock in it's hey day and as an old man still a hero among all the young bands and guitarists and died at home in bed. He was my first guitar player that I followed when I was a kid. Really loved that guy and what a great personality. Rip Mr. West.
When Leslie counted it off and then launched into that killer riff, it was goosebumps all over man! Leslie's tone is the definitive example of what a Les Paul and Marshall amp sound like when you nail it. Thank you for sharing this!
I saw Leslie West play this at Summerfest in Milwaukee in the late 70's. I can still picture the scene in my mind. And I remember how excited I was, and how powerfull they were doing this song.
Great! Great! Great song! A kid played that song to the tea and 8th grade and we were hooked on it ever since. What a badass song! Love that lead. It just goes on and on and on
haha, a friend of mine got popped in the face with a drum stick launched from Corky! It was awesome! Sister Justice has remained my favorite Mountain piece.
I actually started clapping at the end. RIP Mr. West... God speed. Always heard he was a good person as well as a great musician . Will not be forgotten . Blackberry Smoke with Leslie West... great video ! Thanks for this
Mountain was the first concert I went to - way back in 1974 in Savannah, GA. Mother's Finest opened for them. I fell in love with live music and hot guitars that night.
I was in TOADS in New Haven CT one night back in 1986 and Leslie West jumped up on stage and did a 15 minute "Mississippi Queen" 🌟🔥😎 seen THE STONES in there too that year just go up on stage and and play over an hour 👍
The man the band they come through Atlanta many many times and I some just about every time they came through the brothers and Leslie had a good relationship help one another started going to concerts and 69 and saw a lot of good people but mountain and Leslie West was at the top of the heat never a bad show peace love feathers and music forever and rest in peace my brother
Awesome!! LW is a national treasure. Still the best vibrato in the business. If you’ve ever heard him talk much you can quickly tell he’s NYC all the way
Love that shit , keep on rocking boy s, remind s me of my youth .it was 1980 in Detroit and every corner bar was jamming , I wanted to go in so bad , but awe shit , I was only fourteen. ,Some time we would sneak in , till we got caught, awe the stuff I learned.while listing to great music.love ya guy s
I used to have a dream band that I made up to play this song. I wanted Lane Stanley. Dimebag singing along with Leslie West I know this is an odd bunch of group but I wanted to hear them play this song so bad
The Vagrants later known as Mountain began here on Long Island. My friends and I saw Mountain many times. 73&74 New Years Eve at the Felt Forum at MSG were epic.
Takes me straight back to my hometown of Tucson Arizona....it's the early 70's and I'm with my most beautiful date Andrea S. and we're at the now long gone Prince Rd. Drive-In Theatre and watching Vanishing Point.....and this tune comes thru the tiny little theatre-speaker you put in your window. Even with that crummy little speaker.....this SOUNDED SO EFFIN' GOOD! Please Lord.....let me go back for just a day and one night.....I'll never ask another thing of 'ya. jbeinarizona
Seen Mountain Open Up for Triumph at Alpine Valley back in 1986 I believe. Think it was Thunder 7 Tour . Mountain was great Opening Band for Triumph !!!
And Blackberry Smoke is known for a righteous raw sound... nothing to to denigrate. But Leslie not only understood how to make his tools sound smoother, more raw and louder than anybody else, he also had the touch...his vibrato is so smooth, so violin like...he’s up there with BB King and Santana.
Any body that doesn't know who Mountain was has sadly missed out and needs to be introduced!!! Hell I went to see Molly Hatchet several years ago and some young people in front of me looked at each other and I swear, one said Molly Hatchet who is SHE ?
@@rickysticks17 awesome and will do. I was begging for a setlist, roadie with a beard was like sorry all gone and then as he's walking off the stage he throws me a guitar pick from his back pocket and says thanks for your support
Man, would have gave my left nad to have been there! Damnit i love this band, been a long time coming . A band that you dare a sumbitch to skip a song or turn it down!!! that'd be a asswoopn !!
I've always gotten the sense there's a real story behind West. I know next to nothing about him but enjoy watching videos of him, I've noticed his weight fluctuates wildly in every video. That's not usually normal, I assume he had some issues? I know he had talent.
I saw Mountain at the Fillmore East when they premiered Mountain Climbing West was playing with White Gloves on naturally it was UNBELIEVABLE until Gail Collins killed Felix Pappalardi
Leslie west, even in a wheel chair, is more badass than anything on the radio or stage today! RIP brotha!
So true.
Mr. West may have left the building, but his Spirit lives on.
You got that right William.
Amen!!!
