Perfect video for me. Always wanted to learn how to weld but a quick ebay search had me looking for a video like this that could in simple layman's terms explain what arc, mig and tig means. I love the fact that you give a no-nonsense description... No jargon and no bullshit. i'll take your good straightforward advice and get a 115 starter arc kit... And a fire extinguisher !!! Thank you for taking the time to give us this overview... This is why UA-cam is the best thing on the internet!
Where I worked before I retired, we had a strict rule for anyone who was doing some welding. That was, once the final weld had taken place, they had to stay there for a minimum of 30 minutes for fire watching. I personaly had to extinquish a small fire where this didn't happen. They where imediatly removed from site and they lost the contract for other work. Thanks Sharpy, another nice vlog.
An easy to follow introductory video which is straight forward, simple, without unnecessary complications and clearly presented by Paul in understandable terms; despite him saying he's not an expert, he knows welding very well and that makes him an expert, but an expert who communicates expertise well to beginners. Part 1 and Part 2 both good.
yeah other guys teach like I already know stuff....I like how you explain it all like were new which some of us are...Great teaching video...Thanks much
Top man, I started on Ark and really wanting to have a go at MIG. Really looking forward too cracking on with MIG now thanks to you. Many thanks for uploading.
Thank you sir. What an exceptional clear and to the point video with all the details I need to get started. Been wanting to do some welding for ages. I have a few projects in minds and this has given me the confidence to go buy one today!
Great no nonsense video. I just needed some advice from someone who knows. Thanks very much. It’s good to hear from an engineer in the uk as I am also from the uk and our electrical systems will be the same. Please keep this up!
Thank you for this beginners welding lesson and safety tips too. Nice video, we have a Woolf mig welder; my brother uses it, but I want to learn as well. He used to work welding in a factory. I may buy arch welder soon, and get rods. Main reason for learning is to do some welding on our classic cars. I'll make sure there is nothing that might catch fire. Have fire extinguisher at the ready or bucket of water providing no live electrical wires about.
You’ve had over 1200 thumbs up because this was a refreshingly good vid. Straight to the point informative easy to follow exactly what your saying and fellow Brit! Cheers pal.
Exactly what I was looking for in the sea of countless welding videos! Funny you mentioned AvE - his video is what originally put me on to the idea of stick welding to learn on. Great walk-through and just the right amount of detail!
Thanks for this. I'm an absolute beginner and was hoping to get one for my small 8x6 shed which is metal but has lots of wood, including a wooden floor. I also live in a mobile home which has a limited current of only 30amps supplied to my home. Should I get MIG because of these reasons of less spatter (I don't want a fire / don't have much amps to spare)?
Thanks, Sharpey, that was properly helpful. I'm an old bloke who retired in '99, passed a proper course on gas welding when I was a teen, but getting & keeping bottles and having a suitable place to weld whilst raising a family has always been an obstacle to using my kit. Whenever I've tried arc, it's been a spectacular mess, so I thought maybe now that I am getting shaky, I'm the one that is just too clumsy to ever get an arc welder? 😉 AVE is a hoot, isn't he?
hi, Am paul from Papua New Guinea and I've have Cig weldskill 170 inverter that has low output to make an ark. As a sparkie I've trouble shoot on that machine and came across the same problem of the control cards being faulty.
Thanks for your instructions, I got a champion twin arc welder but I don’t know how this can be set up there’s a big knob in the middle of the front panel, I don’t know how to increase amperage , if you help me please..! Thanks 😊
Hi Paul I have the same no gas Clarke Mig as you. I bought it years ago to work on car bodywork. I've never been able to get good results. I'm thinking of using it with gas. Any advice on what gas to use? I guess I would use disposable bottles for the limited use I would give it. Thanks

+Machining Basics hi mate thanks for that I've just checked your channel out you've got some fantastic skills mate reminds me of myself a few millenniums ago lol keep it up bud and you will go far
Fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for, the only question is at 8:05, what are "Gull clicks?"... I am sure this is not what you said, I just cannot hear anything else... sorry.
Best vid I've seen so far for beginners. I want to get into welding starting with stick. Is there a model that has a great reputations for buying as used or inexpensive new? I'm thinking AC/DC unit? Thank you!
If your in the UK bud I would advise machine mart I've always had a good experience there and I would look for a basic 160amp stick ac it's the cheapest option I think for someone starting out but the lads in machine mart might have cheaper options good luck bud keep safe and practice and patience is the key
Just the video I needed as I begin my adventure into welding. I have subscribed and watched your second video for beginners, thank you! I'm going to have a go at welding 2x2 square tube for outdoor table legs. I've just seen the price of Chop Saws £££. Any advice on chop saws for such metal? I'd like to get nice mitre cuts. Also what about those magnetic clamps? They range in price? All the best 😀

Hi bud iam no expert but before you start welding somthing that is going to hold that much weight I would get some practice first gasless is just as good as anything else but a glass tank full with water is not where I would start good luck bud

Hi Stephen iam no expert but for a neat looking weld you can't beat a gas mig about 140amp ish but there are some safety to think about like fuel and disconnect the battery fire hazard of the interior etc unless you've had a lot of practice on some scrap and got used to how the welder reacts I wouldn't touch a car keep safe and good luck

Foot wear you need are usually leather safty boots as the malton splatters can stay very hot and burn into your foot wear if not propper.even lether boots you will feel hot spools burning on the foot,
When whering a mask if its a auto darkening type` and you have stopped welding for a few seconds but the mask flickers between dark and light in a room when it should not` its a idication you have a flame near you and the mask is reacting to the flame near by,
this will depend on the settings of sensativaty you set the mask to,
You also can get a certain issue ` I for got the name now but if you breath in the gasses from welding it could give you a cold or a flue like symtom` so make sure you concider this where and how you protect your self from the gasses` it basically poissons the body, also certain materials are very poissones to weld, like stainless steel so do your home work first.
And Arc eye, please realise when buying a protected mask (Read the instructions) you do not want Arc eye `its painfull and damaging to the retina specialy a few years on ,
