- Fagen Fighters WWII Museum's P-47 Thunderbolt comes in from a test flight. This aircraft is part of the large collection of rare WWII aircraft they have on display. They regularly display their aircraft at airshows throughout the country, including EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Incrível! Eu tenho uma miniatura em escala 1/72 com o mesmo esquema de pintura e desenhos na fuselagem 🌟
Saw this in February, they've re-done the nose art with a beautiful Native Chief in headdress. looks great.
There were very few M models made N models had a whole new square wet wing that was larger as well and radio antennas by the rear😊
The nickname: I don't believe the "milk bottle" legend. I believe the "it was so darned big, fast, well armed and indestructable" (juggernaut) legend.
This could have been an otherwise great video, if it wasn't for the wind noise. Thanks for the submission anyways...great to see a Jug still in operation.
Yeah, one of the unfortunate aspects of my setup (phone) is I don't have a muff for the microphone yet.
I am not 100% sure I think this is a very very late D model there is a vertical fin between the tail and canopy but wing tips are not squared off
Doesn't necessarily have to be a *very* late D model. While only the late D models had the dorsal fin, (I believe the first to come with it from the factory was the D-40, though I've heard some sources say the D-30 did as well), it was sometimes retrofitted to earlier bubble top D models too, like the D-25 and D-28. I'm not sure how common this was but I've been told that it happened.
And also, the wingtips being squared off only occured on the P-47N, the final production variant. The P-47N was different in several ways, and had a noticably different dorsal fin that was more curved up front. Before the N, there was the low-production P-47M. This, as far as I can tell, looked identical to the late P-47D models but had the upgraded 2,800 hp engine, and was lightened according to some sources.
It's a P-47D-30-RA serial number 44-32817. So definitely not a late D at all.
My father retired from the Air Force in '69 after starting during WWII in '43. He flew the P47.
Hope he’s still with you. Thank him for his service
