How weight loss drugs like Ozempic offer benefits beyond the scale

  • Weight loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy are examples of GLP-1
receptor agonist drugs. By mimicking a hormone produced in the body, this
class of drugs has proven to be an effective way to treat diabetes and, more
recently, obesity. This year, clinical trials revealed their beneficial effects on
other chronic conditions that can be associated with obesity like heart failure
and kidney disease. Despite their widespread and growing use, GLP-1
receptor agonist drugs were by no means an overnight success - decades of
developments, unexpected discoveries, and some notable failures all paved
the way to the 2023 Breakthrough of the Year.

It's cool that science is advancing into the human body. Some people really do have better genetic traits that help with turning food into energy, and so many other factors.. So to see science advance in this field is awesome. I can't wait to see what else we can discover.. Helping people with fatigue issues, pain/discomfort issues, depression/anxiety issues but actually treating it in a much better actually beneficial ways. There is so many biological factors that could be improved and need to be improved. I hope this type of science just keeps breaking new ground.

Eating BETTER, not just all highly processed foods. And people REALLY need to read the list of side effects from taking these drugs.

Doctors have been telling people to eat less and move more for decades, and the results have been unimpressive, to say the least.
Suddenly they give patients a drug instead, and it just works. Shaming people does not make that any less of a big deal.

If obesity is a disease what was the cause of it on the 70’s and it’s continuing prevalence? We are working on bandages not a cure. As unhealthy foods are cheap and people move less their micro biome is changing so I really wonder what people 20 years from now will be like. Taking drugs to keep the weight off so they can eat and sit is probable.

Yeah, they should really wait for a couple of decades to correctly determine if its even safe or not, cause if i remember well, it make the body cells produce as twice of ATP (Adenosine Tri Phosphate). There has to be something in there.
