- Golfers!
Are you suffering from poor contact and slow clubhead speeds? Does it get worse when you try to open up and whip your hips through impact? If you've been told that the spinning hips is what you need for more clubhead speed and it doesn't work, it's not your fault! That information needs to be corrected!
To properly post up, use the internal rotation muscles of your lead leg to stabilize your lead side, allowing you to properly pivot through the ball. In this video, I'm demonstrating how the lead leg should work when I take away friction from the shoe and ground. Use this motor control technique to improve your ball striking and distance.

That shot was flushed! Will try this out, thanks Tony!
Wow... 20 yrs of golfing and i still cannot do a halfway decent hip move...
I will try it... tomorrow.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts
Great video 😊
Cant wait to try this, I've been doing the opposite and have never been able to properly post up. It kind of aligns with the thought of heel towards target that many players do?
Let me know how it goes!
What do you think about trying to get that lead leg rotated in feel at setup (along with putting pressure on the inside portion of the foot (instep) and trying to keep it there during the swing (at least until impact) to get that stability?
I can see that working.
Feeling that internal rotation keeps the lead hip back?
It should reduce the swipes left for right handed golfers and allow for improved extension.
What do you think about having lead foot slightly turned in at setup, versus a lot of people saying to have the lead foot flaired out up to 45 degrees to get more hip rotation?
It depends on the golfers hip strength. I would want to see the muscles being used not the limitations of the pelvic joint. It’s not bad as a drill to get the feeling. Typical engineering comment, it depends on the individual.
Tony, Any chance you can hook up again with Brendon Devore? He’s no rocket scientist but I did get a lot out of the interaction and I think your popularity benefited from the exposure.
Would agree! I'll send him this message. Thanks!
How does the trail foot work in the downswing?
Good question for another video! Thanks for the idea. It should be a pushing-off on the inside of the foot. Big toe/balls of the feet to help get the hip through. The knee needs to brace for that movement to help with the directional pivot of the hip joint to the toes of the lead foot.
