    I have 2 ski’s currently. My daily driver is a QST 92 and my second ski is for BC and is a Blizzard ZeroG 95. I’m looking to get a third ski and will demo the Mirus cor and the octo when the season starts (south hemisphere) as I would like something that feels completely different and can get me some fun on slower days with my family

    I think the best skiers can perform great on almost anything but having the right tool for the job is soooo important and many people overlook the benefits to having a decent quiver

    Vail, Copper, Keystone
    Head Kore 93 and Salomon Blank 112 are the two bookends.
    In the middle, Maverick 95 for lightweight powder and Volkl M6 96 for heavy powder and crude. (Powder for these means under 4")

    2m tall (6'7") and 115 kg (253.5 lbs) Swiss guy here. I first bought a second hand Line Sir Francis Bacon 2015 in 188 cm, originally with an Atomic Tracker binding. In the meantime, it had a Salomon Shift 13 on it and now is back on the Tracker.
    Because the Shift now is on my Blizzard Hustle 10 in 188 cm which i bought towards the end of this season for a good prize, but still managed to get a handful of days on it.
    If I now buy a ski, it's gonna be something fun (fast is fun) for the slopes. Been skiing rental Stöckli Laser GS a couple times, which i really liked. But they're expensive and probably for many conditions a bit too "race-y". Rossignol groomer skis honestly often just look shit if you ask me. Don't like that assymmetric tip. Maybe an Atomic Redster something. But there are so many of those that i often don't know which line is which now.

    Vassfjellet skisenter, Norway. Advanced
    A lot of thight trees in the powder
    Short gromed slopes and loots of moguls
    Daily driver Atomic bent 90, they are nice when the trees get tight but they are not so wide, they can carve pretty good and they are nice mogul skiis.
    Powder skis: 2019 Elan ripstick 116.

    I love your channel Elliott!
    My only pair of skis are the Kastle MX 83 (with race edge), which replaced my ancient Nordica Hot Rod Top Fuels (78mm underfoot). I ski mostly Stowe, plus Smuggs, Loon, and Cochrans with my grandkids. I ski a couple of weeks at Yellowstone and Big Sky as well. I am 5'6" and fit 140lbs. I am actually looking for a powder ski for the Rockies and the rare day back east.
    A friend thinks your videos are great, but could be also used as a drinking game: Every time you touch your hair one has to take a drink, haha!

    I think you misunderstood my comment under the last video:
    I only mentioned 10 skis because you dissed Jeff's 10 ski quiver. And i wanted to point out that 10 is somewhat of a minimal quiver that will just get you through the season.
    Of course it is far from ideal, which is why i am personally at 20 pairs.
    Lets just take allmountain/POW-skis as an example. Ideal scenario is you have a pair in (roughly) widths 100, 115, 130. But it would make a lot of sense to have two pairs each, one stiff directional ski with lots of camber for bigmountain lines and a total banana-rockered one that feels more like surfing than skiing (if i didn't hate the word i'd call it "playful").
    -> 6 skis with alpine bindings just for POW in the resort.
    Do the same thing with light ski-/free-touring skis.
    Another rabbithole are race skis. I just doesn't make sense to have only one 165 FIS slalom ski. You could put a 86/0.3° edge on there and it will be perfect on hard ice but you wouldn't wanna ride it in any other condition. So add another one/two tuned slightly less agressive.
    Or for Super-G it is not the best idea to only have the 211cm/45m -radius version because you might ski at a resort where one just can't do such big turns. So also get the 201cm/40m, maybe also a 195cm/35m GS...
    It just adds up. But whats wrong with having the perfect ski for every condtition? 😼
    And yes, of course you need at least a 3 boot quiver to steer all those different skis 😹

    2023 J Ski Masterblaster Moonchild @ 181
    2018 Enforcer 110 @ 185 (initially purchased at ski swap for the bindings)
    2023 Icelantic Saba Pro 117 (not yet mounted)
    I really want to get something to rip front side. Loved Mirus Cor when I demo’d it. I’m eager to try Octo, Kendo 88, and Maverick 88ti sometime. Might look into an Experience as well.

    Damn wish I'd have told you about my old quiver I ran until 2 seasons ago, please Roast Away friend! In all fairness I didn't fully embrace my inner ski nerd and absolute LOVE of the sport until 2 yrs ago. Anyways 2019-2022 seasons I had 2018 Kore 99s for powder, 2003 G2 Volkls for ice, dust on crust, early spring, and 2002 Volant Machete Sins for early season rocks. The Sin was a wonderful powder ski 20 yrs ago, but absolute garbage now.

  • @anthonyalpha4118
    @anthonyalpha4118 13 днів тому

    My current quiver is 2018 Kore 99s for rocks, 22/23 Stance 96 for hardpack-carving-packed powder-daily driver-powder 1-10 inches, Volkl Revolts 104 for powder & spring park & mashed potato moguls. Revolts were great in powder until skiing in +3ft on Cinco De Mayo, am considering the QST 112 or Rossi Sender 110 or Bent 110 as a dedicated deep powder ski.

    Greetings from Finland. First I must say I really like your content. This kind of talk about skis is great. It makes me feel I am not alone. I mostly ski in Finland where we do have good snow but not the longest slopes. That is why I travel to the Alps at least 3 times per season. My quiver is as follows. Black Crows Mirus Cor 178 cm. I do not do park but I like the way they carve and they look so cool. They are good for the start of the season and for shorter slopes. Blizzard Rustler 10 188 cm. I usually take them out when I do not know what I want to do and when I go to the Alps. It is easier to travel with just one pair. Armada Tracer 108 188 cm for the deeper days and for light touring. I actually like them on the groomers as well because they are so light for their size and therefore fun for a sloppy skier like me.

      Another Mirus Cor driver from Finland here yet got 88 Brahma's at the side when I want a little more adrenaline. Looking for something more floaty and light for third pair and touring?

    • @villesalonen4403
      @villesalonen4403 13 днів тому

      Anyone who drives the Mirus Cor is ok in my book. Brahmas are a bit too much for me. Tracer is floaty and light enough for some touring, but I think a more dedicated tourer might find them a bit too heavy. However, I simply love them. Sadly Armada does not make them anymore. They were replaced by the Locators. I have not tried those but I think they are more touring oriented than Tracers. When my Tracers are done (which is propably soon),my plan is to buy Blizzard Hustle 10 with some Duke PTs. I believe that they could tour and float just the right amount and could even replace my Rustlers. Please, anyone, tell me if my plan is ludicrous or just spot on.

    I have 3 skis. Zag Harfang-86 I use as a frontside ski, 2024 Rustler 9 as my go to all mountain, and I just got the K2 Mindbender 106C to use as a open bowl powder ski next season, supposedly similar to the QST106 but a bit cheaper. Hopefully this holds up for a next season quiver.

  • @bearclaw5115
    @bearclaw5115 13 днів тому +1

    Sender 94ti's are not heavy but they are stiff flexing. Only 1,900g in 186cm makes them barely heavier than Playmaker 101 188cm at 1830g. 94ti's are very versatile and slept on for sure.

  • @Outofthelimits

    Good advice as always. One ski quiver can be fine, but it's always those edge case conditions that test it. Things like heavy pow or sheer ice, it's nice to have a ski in mind for skiers who care.
    Roast up my hipster quiver, dude, it's perfectly ethical.
    Skis:
    22/23 Moment Wildcat 101, 179cm
    16/17 Moment Tallac 104, 178cm (touring)
    22/23 Nordica Enforcer 88, 179cm
    17/18 ON3P Wrenegade 108, 179cm
    16/17 Salomon NFX 86, 176cm
    Regions:
    VT
    UT
    CA
    All functional, ordered by days used/ areas skied in lately. I don't love all of these, but most I do.

    Question for you - as a 3rd ski for a quiver w/ 88 & 103 widths - (Kendo & Rossi Black Op) Looking for an in-between width - in the 90s - which would you go with - Atomic Mav 95 or the Meier Wrangler 94 - I know how much you love the Mavericks but you also seem very high on the Meier as well. Montana skiing. PS - I wasnt even planning on a 3rd ski but watching your vids put me on the hunt - as always - thank you - see ya!

    Atomic maverick 86c in 176 as daily driver/charger/kinda powder ski.
    rossignol experince 78 carbon dark in 170 as my low effort carving ski for days i get really sore,
    this upcoming ski season line blade in 169 as a hard charger and high performance carving ski
    And all of these are coupled with k2 recon 100s
    So my atomic mavericks are one size to big for my weight but u have good enough technique to use it pretty effectively. But an uninteded effect is that with the hrzn tech i can actually float on top of moderatly thick powder but i dont have the technique for powder skiing yet.

    Last season I had just two:
    2023 Blizzard Thunderbird R13 165cm (70 underfoot) - Midwest daily driver
    2020 Nordica Enforcer 104 Free 179cm - bought while living in Montana, now it's the daily driver for trips out west
    I'm in the Midwest, but I definitely had a gap in my quiver for a more forgiving carving ski for softer snow even around here. That used to be my 2011 K2 Rictor, which used to be my 1-ski quiver until it got trashed by rocks while living in Montana a couple years ago. It's not unskiable, but it's definitely a rocks ski first and foremost. I thought hard about picking up a Stockli Montero AX which I saw on sale, and I also am looking to try the Black Crows Octo. Ultimately I found an end-of-season deal of something like 40% off on a ski I couldn't pass up:
    2024 Stereo Piste RS 175cm, 76 underfoot with some rocker and 17m turn radius.
    Based on design/specs, it's not *terribly* different from the Thunderbird compared to the range of skis in most peoples' quivers. But I just need something for softer snow and/or choppy ice, and it is definitely more of a GS ski. It'd also probably be a great ski for taking to Europe or the East Coast. I'd love to demo the Octo, and I might swap for an Octo if I find it's a better fit for my skiing.

    I’ll share my skis with ya. I kinda have two daily drivers I guess. First the Rossignol Black ops 98 in a 182 (they kinda do everything pretty well). For where I ski, (mostly NM & CO) that really could be just a one quiver ski for me. Second the Elan Ripstick 106 in a 180 (another great all around ski) and for deep powder days (they don’t see much action, but occasionally) the Elan Ripstick 116 in a 185. Skis I want: the Elan wingman 82 for short turns and the Rossignol Sender Free 110, just because.

  • @carterfan80
    @carterfan80 13 днів тому

    I agree with you that the Maverick 88 is pretty much in between the Kastle and MPro. Ive skied all of them. But it definitely doesn't make sense to give up mx 74 and an mpro 90 for 1 88 mm ski. Mx series rips, you should really try them. Such a fun Carver. The tip shape and low swing weight makes them just a bit more fun than most 74 mm skis.
    Mpro is a pretty business like ski. You better be a pretty good skater if you're spending most of your time on those.
    He could use a mid 90s soft snow ski. Qst or Blaze 94. Dynastar Mfree 99 is awesom too!

    Great content Elliott! My current quiver: Fischer Ranger 108s; Nordica Enforcer 100s; Volkl Kendo 88s (brand new, not skied yet); Nordica Dobermann Multigara DC 70s; and, Blizzard Firebird HRCs 75s. At the ski swap this Fall, I would like to get rid of the Nordica Enforcers and the Blizzard Firebirds. The Nordica Enforcers seem good -- not great -- in most conditions, and only really good at being crud busters. The Blizzard Firebirds are great, but are at a ski length a bit too short for me. I'm former ski patrol; skied 44 decent sessions in good Utah locations last season. Like all conditions and all types of skiing. After I get rid of the Enforcer 100s and the Firebird HRCs, what should I add to my quiver? I'm considering Fischer Ranger 96s or maybe Fischer Ranger 116s, or maybe the new 2025 Nordica Enforcer 99s, or maybe Blizzard Firebird HRCs at a better ski length for me. I literally want to try every ski in everybody's quiver.. When I started coming out to Colorado skiing I would wreck all of my skis in the moguls.. I think that is why I have so many "junker" pairs of skis.. If I get into moguls again I will use those skis and they will get destroyed.. I have said it before but I will say it again.. I have 5 pairs of skis that are standard rotation..

    Montana based
    2023 Volkl kendo '88 - 177cm
    2021 Rossi Black Ops sender 103mm waist & 172 cm
    Do I need (want) an "in between er" ? Thinking Atomic Maverick 95 or maybe the new Nordica Enforcer 94? And there's always the Salomon QST 92 - but is that too close to the Kendo? Kendo is my daily ~ think any of these would replace that? Mainly groomed runs w some off ~ 50/50 Blue/Black

      Just replace that rock ski. Get yourself a good narrow ski. 75 to 82mm. The Stance is good for everything except a real powder day

    Rc4 WC gs 175cm
    Armada Reliance 82ti 174cm, $100 cheaper than the mens Declivity same ski.......
    Nordica Enf 88 179cm
    Blizzard Brahma 88 177cm
    Armada Declivity 92ti 180cm
    Nordica Enf 100 179cm (did you only ski the 172cm in this for your review when you didn't rate it? If so, its too short for sure)

    Ski in Europe, only have the one set of skis, 2023 Rossi hero master LT's, absolute rockets, incredibly stable at high speed, crazy power out of the turns, but not the easiest on slushy afternoons, definitely give me a good workout! Got them in 173 @17m, sort of wish I'd gone for the 179s @19m but 19m is a little tricky when the slopes are busier. I'm looking for a ski for ski touring in Scotland (not great snow cover, quite difficult climbs), is there something you could recommend? I'd want something that I could ski aggressively with, but still a bit playful, but ideally not too heavy.

      I used grass skis for touring there lolz. But in all seriousness it’s beautiful in the spring - the colors do the heather, the lakes or sea, the snow and the sky. You don’t get that in the Alps or the U.S. enjoy!

    I would love for my skis to be roasted and get more recommendations ! I have a 3 set quiver, ski the east coast. Volkl Deacon 80 172 (used for more carving/slalom skiing for days I spend on trail) Volkl Mantra m6 177 (for hard charging days where I want to jump more on and off piste days) and the fischer ranger 102 176 (for more powder days and playful bump days when I don't want to be "on" the ski all day). All Skis purchased in the last 3 years so pretty new (it was just time to upgrade the entire set up from my old one). Background: former racer, ski on the east coast (New England) and ski about 30 days a year, favorite mountain Cannon, ski mostly Stowe, Okemo, Attitash.

      @AaronBrennan what's your opinion of that ranger? I often consider replacing my qst 99 with that. Does it feel lighter than the mantra despite being a bit wider?

    • @AaronBrennan
      @AaronBrennan 13 днів тому +1

      @@carterfan80 yes it feels much lighter than the mantra, it is surprisingly heavy when you look at the tech sheet, but it doesn't feel that way, it feels much lighter. The swing from edge to edge is very fast and you can do lots of different turn styles. Where I found it to struggle is long arcing turns it doesn't want to hold the edge for as long as the mantra which isn't surprising. Happy to chat further about it if you want.

    The Kastle zx 98 doesn't exist. You have a Kastle mx 98 pictured. Maybe they meant a Kastle zx 100. Very different!

      @@andrewdiamond2697 nope. Used on powder 7. 70 % off or more sometimes. Ive owned 4 or 5 and I've never paid more than $349 with bindings.... I know Elliot thinks he finds good deals, but not even close to what I get🤑🤑🤑
