I DID IT!! I installed a carbon fiber dash in my car. THX buildNMotion. You have the most detailed and complete install video on the internet. I'm shocked that no one else took the time to explain that once you remove the old dash you have to transfer the electronics and have a 5 star torx. You also took the time to show [via time lapse] what it looks like to put everything back in place. You laid out each step clearly and I followed it to a T. Thx also for the encouragement. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I highly recommend BuildNmotion content!!
I'm taking the plunge tomorrow. I'm really not good at this stuff but build nation has given me lots of support. Did you get yours done yet? If so, how did it go? How long did it take you?
If you're hesitant to do it yourself then we would recommend ordering the center console yourself and taking it to a car stereo shop for installation. We bought the center console on eBay, this way the stereo shop won't have to source it for you with their inflated markup ..
That is the carbon-fiber trim that you could have ordered from the factory when you order your C7. Of course, you buy your C7 used. BTW, that is the dash trim you replaced, not the center console where you can rest your right elbow on.
Every place calls it something different... When we ordered it online it was called the center console.... And yes bought the vette used. Thanks for watching!
We would say it took us about 5 hours from start to finish. As long as you have all the tools it can be done within that amount of time. We had to stop and order the 5point security bits which ended up delaying the job by a few days as nobody sells them locally. That was truly our biggest delay which is why we decided to source and sell them on our website buildnmotion.com. If you're taking your time and being extra careful then it may take a little longer then that. But realistically it can be done in 4-5hours with a helper!
Hi Buildmotion. After watching your video many times I finally have the courage to do this myself. One big fear and question. Right before you pull the dash out, are you able to see the connectors you are disconnecting or are you doing it by just touch. Everyone says they can't get a camera back there. Are you able to physically place your head at an angle so you can see the connectors to remove them? OR are you just reaching around the back of the dash.
Hey what's going on! There's very limited space to see the connections, you will have to feel with your fingers and disconnect them. This may test your patience just keep your cool lol just familiarize yourself with what the connectors look like and how they disconnect so you know what to feel for. Best of luck! BTW did you order your security bits?
Yes sir. As per your direction I ordered 10-Piece 5-Point Torx Plus Tamper Proof Security Bit Set - 25mm Length S2 Steel Precision Machined Security Bits. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083G9C2BB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I hope I didn't screw up.

Hey question? Do you need to remove the entire dash to replace that long silver trim ?
Hi Buildnmotion. If you had to give an estimate of how many hours this job would take. What would it be please?
