I'm running (or, more often, walking) without a compass all the time (because, doing those events only for fun and some extra training for TrailO, I don't need to take care of having proper compass habits). I'm taking it with myself (as I learned that sometimes, especially in some crazy rocky terrain, you can get lost so much that you need to check which way is north), but most times it stays in my pocket for the whole race. It started accidentally - I left my compass in the car and decided that I'm too lazy to go back and get it, and after the race (which was a training event where I had most paths removed from the map for a bit of extra difficulty) decided that it was great fun and it has forced me to read a lot of additional details from the map, so next day I did not use my compass and I never started using it again - it's been around 3 years now.

Ja zgubiłam na pierwszych treningowych zawodach, bez kompasu poszło sprawniej, mniej czasu patrzyłam na niego a więcej na charakterystyczne elementy terenu. Pierwszy był płytkowy za kilka zł. Był pretekst żeby kupić fajniejszy kciukowy :)
