- From the Miss Black America Pageant in Madison Square Garden, New York City, 1969. Michael had probably not yet turned 11. The Jackson Five's first TV appearance, where they performed this Isley Brothers funk classic
OMG!!! mike in only 10 years old!! and has so much presence!!! he's 10!! and he can make that a whole adult and dull audience begin to sing with him!! he was born to be a star!!! i love you mike!!!
That precious child - May he rest in peace! Thank you Michael for all you gave us!
The Estate needs to have this restored before it is lost for all time. Amazing!!
His voice has so much soul... Amazing.
He rubbed his eye at about 00:14. He was tired but was still a trouper, bless his heart.
Already a king. A mature performer. At 10.... goose bumps
This was before they blew up and one of their first big gigs. The crowd was unaware of a legend that was before them. Michael rocked the crowd like someone who was here before in another lifetime. The way he performed was just amazing. He performed as if the stage was his. You can't find grown performers who don't show nervousness. You never see it in Michael.
Listen to him sayin', "Let me hear you sing!"
He's owning that stage in 1969!
What a little guy!
He reigned for over 40 years on this earth.
And he still reigns even in death.
Long reign our King.
Precious! The little king! Just amazing!
Brilliant! I can't believe MJ was only 11 (or maybe still 10!) and just commanding the stage like this. Wow.
He was still 10!!!
Holy crap! I think I just saw the most breath taking performance as kid from Michael! That was moving. He was such a man already. wow!
"Gone Too Soon" ~A true MJ fan from the heart~
This is just amazing!! Incredible!! I think Michael was an entertainer even before he was born!! Born to dance and sing 'til the cows come home. Wonderful entertainer!
actually micheal was ten this was august 22,1969 micheal turned 11 7 days later on the 29th
One more thing...a big big thank you to the channel provider for uploading this!!!! What a treasure to have this on youtube!! Thank you very much!!!!!!
I desperately need a time machine! I was born in 77, and I missed out on a lot!
This was THE genuine first TV performance and I think it's the best live performance of his whole life! He was still 10 years old!
look at him go!! I swear there will never be another!!
Amazing!!! He was workin the crowd even at that tender age. He was put on this planet to do this he would not have been happy if he had not been able to do this. He has such talent it is unbelievable. There will never be anyone even close to his talent ever. I love you Michael please come back to us the world is a much darker place without your sweet spirit to light the way.
Amazing! We will never see another talent like that in a million years!!!
this is a timeless Gem !!!
That talent , that super talent that every hater is jelous about and they can't understand . That boy, who later became THE KING ..the greatest entertainer that ever lived .
He made the Show and his talent was obviously - He was always the Sensation on Stage - so beautiful, I can watch it on and on. Embedded in his familiy - so sad he has gone to soon.
its amazing that we have this footage... what a voice! no training.. just talent and damn hard work! he is truly a gifted entertainer to do that at 11 year.. go see what other 11 year olds can do and conpare this performers... hes got funk, soul, get rhythm and his own original licks...
OMG! This is amazing! Michael had so much natural soul. Tito and Jermaine were actually decent musicians.
They were more than decent ur ridiculous
@@anthonytaylor7928 Was about to say the same thing.
O them Jacksons was no joke they were awewsome great harmony dance moves they as the bizness
My dad was the owner and creator of the miss black america pagent and i'm so freakin proud that we had M.J on the show, i mean he's like a music god.
I think about him at age 5 with 200 soul classics mastered - listening to the radio and watching TV in that tiny house. C'mon now!
I love his lil' southern accent back then.
@Shanna Rita L, They were from Indiana and it is not a southern state. I am a southerner and I don’t hear a southern accent. 💕🙂
Michael is greatly missed, however, he will live on forever in the hearts of his millions of fans thru~out the world! His music is timeless and will be around for many many years to come. God rest his soul
OMG, I hope this stays well preserved! It's such a beautiful thing to capture!! Michael had POWER in his voice. He had grace in his steps!
All the while, he was just a little kid!
I could watch footage of him all day! He always amazes me.
"Often IMITATED but never duplicated."
I've seen quite a few interviews where people have said he was well beyond his own age and have seen his childhood interviews.
I'm very sad. =(
Pure Talent. Born to play music, R.I.P. The King of Pop.
Everytime I watch this I am in awe.
this is like some very experienced entertainer caught in a little boy's body...his talent gets me everytime,he is incredible ! and what presence on stage...amazing. may he rest in peace.
my world michael was not ramping!!!! his voice, moves, dance, aura touches every inch of my SOUL! i can not imagine how the people then must of felt... you are a billion times more then a genius... wish u never slipped away alone it hurts.

Look at Michael's timing, listen to his voice, feel his soul!
Mike at 10 controlling the audience.
Mike always did that run and kick well.
The first ever TV appearance and Mike looks, sounds, acts like this is his trillionth time.
Thank you God Almighty for Michael Jackson. What a blessing you bestowed on us! Praise you Father!
And forgive us for what we did to hurt Michael. May we have Yours and his forgiveness.
May your incredibly beautiful soul RIP Michael.
Love you 4 eternity
Best child talent ever. Pity they didn't look after him better, he just had it naturally in him.
wow this is amazing!!! thanks for sharing! Michaels vocals are amazing!
Michael was THE SHOW, born a true artist . With 10 years old and we can see clearly the same steps that he always did as an adult. Awesome. Irreplaceable!
He was great from the beginning - hu, I love it

His beautiful, precious little voice. =)
I LOVE the way he sings this.
The dance he's doing @ 2:24 is the dance he did in you rock my world video
I won't sing it if i don't mean it!!! He was so young then oh my God!
Love you MICHAEL!!!!!!!
Beautiful vid!
Good video for the time. MJ was determined to engage that audience. Maybe it the type of event that kept the audience so reserved.
This is absoloutly incredible, the singing, the dancing, the entertaining, all that from a little 10 year old boy. I don't know what is wrong with that audience I would have been screaming.
this is amazing!! Michael i love you
WOW!!! And @ 2:21 He had that move back then too???
Michael...Mannn... God bless you!
Quanto avrà avuto 9-10anni? Che voce e il modo di intrattenere il pubblico? Per non parlare di come ballava già a quell età , ti lascia senza parole, star ci si nasce
It was His thing, no doubt. I Love it.
Even though the quality is a bad one, what does it matter, He was a Genius!
He was born to be an entertainer...thee Greatest Entertainer...that's a Pure Soul & Genius natural unlimited talent. A truly gift from God to the world! Long live the King♥
Wow, I've never seen this before. I love this song. Just listen to that kid sing like a grown man.
The king.
@balotelli456 it actually was August of 1969 and it was on television. This was the very first time I laid eyes on them and have been with them ever since.
it brings tears of amazement to see a 10yearold kid give a show like that!!,that presence like if hebeen doing it for 40 years.and the dancing&sining and MJ was talking really black slang from indiana.he doesnt sound shy or feminin here.wonder what happened to him later...amazing vid
Mike had incredible stage presence! OMG..can you say mannish!?!?! lolol I see you Mike I see you!
The epitome of an entertainer!
The move at 2:35 is smooth as hell
It's hard to believe he's 11 in this!!! :)
WOW...OMG ONLY MJ, KING OF ENTERTAINMENT!!! He could beat any adult to this performance!...if the crowd only knows..the boy who turned KING in the future.
Incredible, the Talent ran out of His ears - everybody can See it
The heir apparnt to James Brown. Ttio and Jermaine doing their best Bootsy Collins and Jimmy Nylon. An absolut GEM!!!!! Many thanks for this excellent post.
GENIUS!!!
wow where did you get this? This really has a James Brown feel to it......wonderful!
Amazing!
HE IS THE KING!!!
Let me preach for a minute... taking nothing away from the talent of them men I'm about to mention.. but truth is truth.
Take Usher... Bobby Brown.. Ralph Tresvant... Chris Brown...Justin Timberlake... and multiply them by 1000.. and you wont have HALF of what the Jackson 5 were. Never before.. and never again will we see a group like this. Self contained... polished... and the standard for what came after them....
he is genius
People should stop wondering who's gonna be the next king,
but i'm sorry,
if you don't start like this you can not be the next king of music.
rest in peace...
I am an old J5 fan. The J5 were Black folks Beatles! RIP Mike!!!
Good point
Great performance! I love that move at 1:19 and 4:04 .
@ilovemusicalot07 They also know how to whip their hair back and forth more than getting their groove on.
lol omg his dance at 2:09 was too cute
hahahahaha...that is the crip walk at 1:19. I love him:)
That is funny the way they're just sitting there. They had no idea they were witnessing history in the making. Despite the crowd's participation, Michael still jams. That's the consummate performer for you. Rest in peace, L'il Mike.
@205breed LOL!!!!!! And the camel walk looked like the Moonwalk today.
I dont even think they even signed with Motown yet. The video quality is poor but this may be the ONLY version of this performance. The group is still very RAW but you can see the talent. Apparently Motown saw it and cultivated it and the rest was HISTORY!!! R.I.P. MIKE 1958--2009
ahaha this is so cute!! true talent!
i doubt he fully grasped what he was singing about tho lol
It's yout thing : The isley brother
Look at him falling in line with his brothers' steps at 2:39!
I keep coming back to this video because I feel both awe and a little discomfort. My jaw drops everytime I watch it but at the same time, ali0015 said: "did he know what he was singin?"
This is the discomfort part. Judging from his moves and the audiences reaction to the pelvic thrusts, it seems so to me. And assuming he did know, I think no 10 year old is supposed to be that sexually aware...
hes my husband, and he's beautiful no matter the world say hatred abput you. you are what Jesus made you to be. I love you michael.
@barisms and they say there's nothing sexual about michael as a person..but then as an artist he can always do what he wants to portray on stage whether its trying to be bad, sexy, cool, smooth, kind, innocent..he can portray anything and anyone..as they said michael can be anything he wants to be, because he does anything on a higher level..it was said that he can mimic anyone's moves and vocal style even..with michael there are no limitations..that is why he's colorless
that's an old video..
MJ I miss you :'(
I guess we'll never know but its very clear something happened, specially between off the wall and Thriller but even the late jacksons years he started to change.YOu just see both grammy awards and its a whole different person both phisically and attitude. The way he just walks around here and feel the rythm every move is like out of this world.I bet JB went nuts seeing this little kid doing this
I wish that they were all born like 15 years later so the technology and quality would be better... And that I would be alive when he was taking the world off of it's feet
Can you believe it? a VETERAN by this age showing. He was definitely workin that camel walk!! And one can sure say that musically mike always knew what the hell he was doin!
Love Mike, but heck his voice is deeper here than it was at 50!
This kid is amazing....The audience in the this time period just must be use to unbelievable talent, because if I saw something like this now, I wouldn't be able to sit still! The kid is 11 years old, for Chrissake!!! I challenge you to try and hit those beats, notes, and rhythme that he does from 2:33 - 2:42!!!
No he was doing the "Camel Walk" which was an dance from the 60's.
Hell No, Mike invented the Crip Walk Lol.
