- President Javier Milei cautioned of tough times ahead before improvement. His initial few months in office witnessed a slight dip in inflation, but poverty is in an upward spiral. Now, facing another general strike, will Argentinians wait to see if his radical reforms yield results?

The government was spending more than it can afford. So it doesn't matter if Argentina can withstand the cuts, but its already apparent that Argentina has not withstood overspending.
false it s a monetary problem SINCE MENEM -IMF AGREEMENT and a liberal macroeconomical asset of ARGENTINA since VILEDA DICTARORSHIPS
I see the Profesor likes to extrapolate past Europe situations to current/future Argentina situations. He should do it the other way around. What Europe has been doing for the last 15 years, in Argentina started 80 years ago. So the direction should be Current Argentina -> Future Europe if they keep attached to their social justice agenda. Believe me, I grew up and lived my entire life under different governments of the "Social Justicialist Party".
Same here! I can only agree with this, seeing the same situation happening in Canada
The problem of Argentina isn't socialism or "social justicialists" it's corruption. Scandinavian countries have been governed mainly by social-democrats since the 50's and they aren't exactly hell on earth : long life expectancy, low poverty, very low corruption, high security, a healthy private sector, high level of education, very good public services, low income inequalities etc.
@@xenomyr Argentina and Scandinavia are not the same system at all. For each dollar a private company earns in Argentina, it will pay 1.06 dollars in taxes. Corporate tax rates in Scandinavia are way lower. By the way, the Scandinavian model collapsed in the 90s, and economic-freedom reforms occurred, a big part of the welfare-state was dismantled. All scandinavian countries rank high among the most economically free countries in the world. Argentina ranks 143th.
That's a more nuanced comment than your initial one lol.
Are you pro child labor ? No ? You dirty SJW lol !
is Argentina moving away from social justice now??
My countryman may be a professor but seems a bit clueless on what Argentina needs with his views based on what has happened in the UK with similar policies. If he knew anything about what Milei has stated is needed he will know that is exactly what Argentina needs. Kirchnerist policies based on wasting and syphoning off government funds is what ruined the economy. The damage was already done.
Why is everybody talking about Milei? Milei made it happen in less than 5 months. This is unprecedent not only in the history of Latin America but in the history of humanity.
made what happen?
Viva la libertad carajo
Argentinians lived in poverty even before reforms. If you have to borrow money to afford something, it doesn't mean you are rich... it proves you are not! Same goes for subsidies, if you rely on subsidies, you are poor. Argentinians lived like they are rich while being poor. It is time to stop pretending you are not poor and really become rich!
Ronald Reagan did something very similar in the 1980s. 81, 82, and half of 83 were very difficult and the the economy took off!
I hope Argentina stays this course and rejects Peronism and populism in 21 & 23.
La inflacion en abril fue del 8.5....y venia del gobierno anterior con 25 mensual
Milei is making Argentina great again indeed. 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
I wish we had a leader like Milei in Canada
That professor speaks with no objectivity. If you’re cloistered in a safe, comfortable London flat please speak about these things with an impartial and dispassionate voice of reason. This guy is clearly pushing an ideological perspective that no amount of evidence could change.
People complain about their recent decline in living standards but fail to acknowledge their country is broke and has spent money it didn’t have to prop them up till now…
They made it through a 1000% inflation rate back in the 80s. Thanks IMF.
lol dont blame it on others you scrotum licker
After being (intensively) involved with Argentina for about 40 years I think it is too early to evaluate the effects of Milei policy. Better talk in... lets say November. I'm afraid we will have to agree by then that Martina's (non-ideological) contribution to this conversation was the most important one.
Shock therapy has worked every time it was tried.
What? Is Budget Surplus possible? And if yes; is that good?
Is high Inflation not good? Really!?
Is change of currency really bad?
Ask those whose Salary or Pension Nonetary Value Shrink on Daily basis!!! Do Did Done!!! Great ⭐️
Milei received from previous socialist government $300 salaries and $80 pensions. In only 5 months they've duplicated and he reduced inflation by 5 times
Is budget surplus an achievement if the currency is devalued ?
Yes. It means you stopped increasing your debt, at least for now. In turn that means you don't need to monetize any new debt and generate inflation. It has nothing to do with the current value of your currency.
It has double nothing to do with changing the official conversion rate, that was at that point fictional, and bringing it closer to the "black" (read "free") market. In other words, currency was already devalued. He just stopped lying that it wasn't.
@@Lego6979 thank you 🙏
The British professor is without a doubt very left-leaning biased. If he thinks that unions in Argentina have been the solution to inequality he clearly knows little about argentine economic history. Makes me wonder what exactly he teaches his students
You guys have to explain that the people who are supposedly defending the workers are people who used to benefit of the government because they don’t work. None of them has a real job ,they leave of the people who really work.
Ignorant reporting???
Or malace.
How could any news agency know so little about the monetary system?
Mainstream news is always catering to the elite class and gaslighting the peasants. It's their job.
The union does what to give up anything but if the country collapses they lose everything

a libertarian actually gets elected and suddenly EVERYONE knows better than an actual economist how to run a country... lmfao🤣
Sometimes it's just the country and it's people. Not really much that politicians can do to fix this mess
In this case, it s the gov that made such a mess.
@@silcar2300 If you ever visit Argentina, you will quickly realise that the people are living beyond their mean. They will blame the problem on everyone else except for themselves.
Argentina inflation April 2023 8.4% inflation 2024 8.8% we are INCREDIBLE. In addition, the forecast of the economy's decline according to OECD -3.5% is one of the worst data in the world. Poverty has risen to 60%, UNEMPLOYMENT increases......ETC. Milei is a GENIUS.

You too can save more money if you don't feed your family. Simple math.
Very well said.
Las ayudas sociales las aumento....si no vivis en argentina y no sufriste el populismo de izquierda durante 70 años ....llamate a silencio
If you can't feed your family because you took out too much credit card debt, the solution isn't spend more on your credit card
*Mellei Miracle...??? Hehehe... Its Argentians as a whole very big blunder.*
Yes.. And your sister is a Saint woman….
Budget surplus is nothing great to talk about. When you cut the goverment expenses: closed the government departments and agencies, cut the welfare for the people, reduce the budget for medicle, education..,
Only government political parasites were left over.
Crazy guy with crazy mind will make Argentina more and more crazy
The honeymoon period will end sooner or later and Argentinians will discover the reality that Milei is just an Argentinian version of Gorbachev who did not really know what he was doing.
Food prices going down due to no longer needing to speculate, inflation down once again to a single digit salaries starting to raise in some sectors wtf are you talking about 😂 this man is probably the only one that truly knows what he is doing in the president seat
@@nahuelgareis8927besides he is investigating those criminals who stole for years the subsides for the poor. People should really know what is happening before giving opinion
