We exist and evolved to inteligence beings thanks to many things that happened. Is not just earth must have water... So intelligent life might be much difficult to develop than we think. Billions and billions of capable planets might mean absolutely nothing.
One thing that annoys me about the alien abduction/flying saucer crowd is that their enthusiasm and curiosity could be put to good use by backing programs like SETI, but instead they stick to their grainy videos of visual artefacts and insist that aliens are visiting us. Most of them don't even have the intellectual curiosity to think about what Seth said, that there literally has not been enough time for 99.9% of the galaxy to know we exist, let alone actually travel here. That's not an opinion, it's stark reality dictated by the speed of light and other laws of physics. There simply has not been enough time for Earth signals to reach anywhere beyond our relative galactic doorstep.
