@Yrzy16 Franco Aqua is tiny irl, and Japanese women are skinnier on average than women in the west, so 44.5 kg is a believable weight. I literally weigh twice as much as Aqua does.

It is kind of a toxic thing over there, as I understand it, people that know you well may even poke you and pull you aside and shame you for gaining weight? Even if it's a relatively small amount.
It's funny in the US, we have the opposite problem, where everyone enables everyone else to do a "bang bang" (2 restaurants/bars back to back), pigging out on tubs of ice cream, etc. and in Japan you're punished for even a small dalliance with laziness or indulgence

Stereoids usually cause water retention (both the muscle building and the inflammation/immune system reducing types), so there is a good chance that she didn't actually gain fat. The puffed up "moon face" is a classic side effect.
And when you're traveling and stressed, then eating differently often makes more difference than something like not walking as much. Calory input can change a lot easier than calory burn rate.

@@dingickso4098 This conclusion isn't just from this. I have heard this same thing from multiple sources. See e.g. Abroad in Japan. In one video Chris said that when he gained weight, even mere acquaintances were quick to point it out by e.g. prodding his stomach.

There are steroids other than anabolic steroids used as performance enhancing drugs.
Anyway, the legality depends on the country, and even in countries where they are illegal they tend to allowed for medicinal purposes and can be prescribed. And they are also fully legal in other countries. (Thought I do not know what the Japanese law on the subject is.)
Thought they are internationally banned in sports competitions of course.
