@@sanishtiwari23 I understand from that standpoint, but I was thinking he could've quit himself is it's not fun for him and gets treated like a clown. I personally don't want him to go
@@marinhrabric6162 I don't really think that's the case. In a lot of the recent interviews he mentioned that he's over the bullying and the shit talking people do when it comes to him and his voice. There is a HUGE majority of people who still love him and listen to him and he sounds absolutely great in the studio! He's getting much better live too but he's old now and that comes with its own vocal complications. Rather than asking (or hoping for) him to leave we should cherish him for as long as he can sing. Cuz when JLB stops singing, that'll be an absolute end of an era and the end of DT for sure.
well, when you record an album, once it's out, you can't change it. Add that to the fact that they're a legendary prog band and people will IMMEDIATELY notice if there is the slightest mistake and I guess you too would want to remove all the smallest imperfections.
his intonation is out a lot. don't get me wrong, I love how he sounds once he's nailed it, but it's like a string player just being slightly flat or sharp a lot of the time.
I had a few weeks with J. Labrie and he is VERY critical of his singing already, so when studio man kicks in and gives his opinion, Labrie flies off the handle, it happens, IRL he's a nice guy though

LMAO!! Poor James. When John said it was good except the give yourself and the me. James does a face palm. "What the fuck was that? You shoulda just said do it again?" People can slam LaBrie all they want but he's a killer singer.
Basically why James started recording the vocals on his own with a real producer in Canada. The vocal melodies in systematic chaos and black clouds were kind of bleh and a it doesn't help that two non vocalists are trying to guide an actual vocalists performance. In my opinion, the vocals were substantially better on ADTOE/DT12/Astonishing/DOT(even if they weren't all perfect albums).
How can people say he sucks!?! I am seriously baffled by that, and not too convinced otherwise lol.... he.is.gorgeously.sublimely.outrageously.wicked.amazing! I wish I could sound like my voice cuts like butter!
Just because an artist is not on his best for a few shows, doesn't mean he is shit.. You should look at a career and judge from that. And judging from that, he was and is an amazing singer.
To be fair, his career has prospered because of the band of incredible musicians he is partnered with, his vocals have certainly not carried the band in any way when they are the first thing critiqued from new listeners and the biggest hurdle for people to overcome. I love Labrie and can't imagine DT without him, but he is the weakest link, no question.
I don't agree, his vocals are the reason why some of my friends actually listen to Dream theater. I also think it is a matter of taste if you like his voice, and this type of singing, but he is not a "weak link". No way. And he has carried this band since '92, no doubt. I wouldn't imagine the band without him. I think the difficulty level and the very high pitch vocals are something no one does like La Brie. I think he pushes himself too much sometimes, and he can fuck things up, that is true. But I'm an artist myself, and I know the value of experimentation on live stage. I doesn't always work, but people are also here to see an artist in the moment. Anyway, most people have never sang at that level and have no idea how hard it is to do so. Because they are generally a bit too reckless with him. Being a singer is tricky in the sense that you're only partially playing an instrument. On the flipside, you are the instrument, which makes it hard to not take things personally after what might be the 50th attempt. I mean, it literally is about your body/anatomy, at some point.
