Pipe Flashing Detail | How to install Self-adhered Membranes

The over granular condition created while installing or repairing this detail needs to be bonded, it is recommended to use PG500 or PolyPlus 50 or a hot air welder.

Thanks this is confusing regarding the heat and granular surface but super helpful with double layer and finger technique on pipe wrap. I’m using peel and stick ice and water which sticks to itself. Should I still heat it? Thanks

Polyglass Ice & Water membranes are not made for long term exposure, and not intended for use on this type of detail.
Whenever lapping a Self-Adhered (SA) membrane onto a granulated surface, the use of heat or adhesive is required to ensure proper adhesion. SA membranes that have a film top surface will bond to themselves, but the use of heat from a hot air welder will greatly improve the bond. If I’m doing this repair on roof in 100 degrees heat, do I still need the heat gun to activate the adhesive??

Yes, whenever you are doing a Self-Adhered detail and you encounter an over-granule condition, the use of heat or adhesive is required for the membrane to bond to itself. The ADESO compound does not bond well to loose granules, and adding heat from a hot air welder, or an adhesive such as PG500 to the detail, better ensures a tight seal and bond.
