He batted at #6 position on debut : 1. During his debut series to PAK in Nov 1989. 2. During his first series to ENG in 1990 - Scored a Ton there at Manchester and secured a draw for India. 3. Was at #6 until this Sydney Test at AUS in Jan 1992. 4. Promoted to #4 in the next Test and stayed at #4 until his retirement in Nov 2013. Was the best #4 batsmen in the world during 1992 to 2013 ( 21 years span ).
I was in school and attended a few days of this match at the SCG. I had never heard of Sachin Tendulkar or Shane Warne at that time and looking back appreciate the significance of watching these two legends arrive on the big stage.❤
1991/92 australian summer tendulakrs masterclass and 148 and after 1 years 1992/93 australian summer laras masterclass 277 and these two innings made their career push towards a successful path and what a coincident both scored at sydney ❤❤thats why sydney just not for this in so many occasions sydney stands a better positoon than lords and melbourne it has legendary history
Way too big a call, but definitely from his own personal perspective has to be in Tendulkar's own top ten for a number of reasons: he was only 18 and came to Australia on that tour being labelled 'The Jewel in India's batting crown'. Apart from Mohammad Azzharrudin, no one else in that Indian line up comes close to being labelled a genuinely great player. But what a big rap for a mere 18 year old and what stifling pressure to have to live up to it - very very few would, no matter how talented. The fact that he did it against Craig McDermott and Merv Hughes, both at their peak and who took 53 wickets between them in that series and then followed up with an incredible century in Perth when all was imploding around him as they went down 4 nil was special, even for Australian fans. Tony Grieg said in commentary as he reached his ton, ' ... youngest to score a test century in Australia ... ' Does anyone know who was second youngest? I know Don Bradman scored one at about 2O years and 4 months, can anyone confirm if he was the second youngest, as I am not sure.
For me perth inns was better than this. This match was played on a flat wicket unlike perth, perth was also quicker than scg wkt. Still this inns is great because even though he is playing in a flat deck he has to adjust the Australian bounce against an in form hughes and McDermott at just 18.
I went to 3 days of this match, Shastri got 200 but I cant remember anything about his innings other than Warne dropping a simple caught and bowled when he was on about 40, Tendulkar was such a classy player, incredible to see an 18 year old playing like that. Warne bowled absolute rubbish, his line and length were all over the place, the weather was overcast and showery and Warne couldn't grip the wet ball as he had to wipe it with a towel every time it crossed the wet outfield, I recall remarking to somebody that this clown will never get picked again, fortunately my prediction was way off that time.
A year or two after this series awell known journalist who predicted warne will take more than 500 test wickets was reprimanded for making such lofty predictions.
Seems so strange to see a full length boundary, I thought they had all been replaced by ropes by then. So many fieldsmen were getting badly injured trying to save a run by sliding into the fence.
these days I hear comment from idiots that Ponting/Kallis were better because Sachin was flat track bully. The first four centuries before turning 19, Old Trafford, Sydney, Perth and Wanderer, Johensberg.
Yes, he has scored : 29 Test Tons abroad, 22 Tons at home, 6 Tons in Australia, 5 Tons in England, 5 Tons in SA, 4 Tons in NZ, 20 Tons in SENA Countries ( all SENA pitches are fast and bouncy ) He played Tests in 90 different Grounds - A world record.. No one can even come close to his 100 Tons record... An absolute legend ....
I think he batted at 6 in this 1992 test.
If had batted at 4 ,sure a double ton.
Yes, 6 in this test., BUT the team management promoted him to number 4 in the next test in the 2nd innings and he stayed at 4 till he retired.

This knock was remembered and talk of the town for many years ❤
The inside out shots against Warne are a treat to watch ❤
The beginning of an era of all time greatness with this knock.

I watched almost every ball of this innings on television. This tour before the OneDayer World Cup 92 was special for many reasons.
Congratulation Tendulkar ❤
pitches downunder than were cobras.the master tamed it with ease.pitches melted than even mortals were termed legends

Brian Lara's 153* was better than this!
@user-es7wb7ec4s OK so you agree this is not the best test innings of all time. Thank you.

Shane warne with a side on action. A very different bowler
Useless boundaries in Australia in those days
Top 5 Best Test Innings of Sachin Tendulkar Against Australia.
1. 155* in 1998
2. 241* in 2004
3. 148* in 1992
4. 214 in 2010
5. 126 in 2001
I think innings in Perth is better than at Sydney for the 148 one.
He scored 114 in Perth another gem of an innings...
