Where to begin when trying to explain, who is Lidia Thorpe? Maybe a start is to think of her as the Nick Kyrgios of Australian politics. She’s edgy, unpredictable, sometimes angry, often funny, and for a politician, refreshingly candid.
As Karl Stefanovic discovers in an exclusive interview with the independent Senator, Lidia Thorpe is also hugely committed to her job in the Australian parliament. She tells Stefanovic her drive comes from a tough upbringing which has not only given her resilience, but a will to always fight for the underdog. 50 is not too old for political service. My mum worked hard for her constituents for 34 years in local government. She was there for them until she was 78 years old.
She'll be 55 so another term will take her into her 60s and as she said we need younger politicians with fresh ideas and passion for the job. Personally I'm going to be sad to see her go but also I know for a fact that she wont stop working hard for the community just because she will no longer be a senator, she's always been an activist and always will be.
Sorry after watching this I fear she’s a bit of a loose cannon. Too little self control. Not good for a public representative.

As an outsider, I enjoyed this thoroughly.
Too many times, good intentioned people get involved in politics. However, within months, those same driven individuals side with and become EXACTLY like ALL of the other political people within that fraternity.
- Verbally: their jargon resembles every other political figure.
- Professionally: most are entrenched in that circle of people and prefer the inner circle’s accolades, especially when they list the committees they are engaged with.
- And ethically: they tend to become more influenced and revered by their political mates that the commoners, commonly called constituents who elected them, are mere pawns used to move that person’s version of political leadership up the political circle’s social ladder.
So, props to her!
I hope her vociferous style does not dismiss her political credentials as a leader who stands for and strives to represent the people who provided her her political platform. Remember, NO ONE climbs ANY ladder alone.

Okay I'm American and black and have been paying very much attention two Australian politics especially in the last two-and-a-half years. And the thing about this woman is she's definitely more white than she is indigenous and she is nowhere near black in my honest opinion. I think she is so ashamed to be white that she would rather be racist to her own people and make herself into something she's not. I mean if you look at her own children they're white. A formal complaint I lodged with you my representative met with no response apart from your advisors either not showing you content my formal complaint or for some reason you perhaps set out to protect wrongful actions of Law Makers that bankrupted me even though I was solvent at the time of my illegal bankruptcy by the Attorney-General Senator George Brandis.
I am an Australian regardless of what blood runs through my veins just like you.
You took on the position of a Senator so if I lodged a formal complaint you are obliged to ensure that corruption I reported to you in the role of a Senator is investigated.
Of course if my allegations were unfounded of corruption in the Federal Government, the Senate and Government Agencies then I should be bought answer for my insidious actions.
Why did you not ensure that I should of been punished for wrongfully reporting actions of Law Makers if the matter reported to you lacked credence?
As my representative in the Senate you had all documents/evidence to either follow up on my complaint as being legitimate or if I had been dishonest to report my actions as improper.
I will not stoop to the level of others in the comments posted against you in the article I just want Justice to prevail and your role as a Senator is to see that the Rule of Law is applied.
