  • Hello and welcome to another of my tutorials, this time I have a cute ring for you to make.
    To make this ring you will need;
    • 0.8mm (20g) round wire, 3 x 9" (23cm) lengths
    • 0.315mm (28g) weaving wire, approx 300cm
    I no longer put links to tools on here.
    The tools I use are:
    • Tronex needle nose pliers
    • Tronex short round nose pliers
    • Tronex razor flush cutters
    • Beadsmith flat nose nylon jaw pliers
    • Occasionally I use tronex bent nose pliers
    • Occasionally I use heavy duty wire cutters
    • Occasionally I use xuron needle nose pliers
    • Bobeeze bobbins (medium size with no extra weights)
    Start weaving 7cm (3") from the start of your wires.
    This tutorial is free, please quote my name Kelly Jones when sharing work you have made from my tutorials and feel free to sell your beautiful jewellery.

LOL as someone who's learning the ropes of wire wrapping, i must admit that the music in the background sometimes made it kind of hard to hear what you were saying. the music is rather distracting and i'd love to watch and listen to you work without the background music. this is, of course, my preference, so you need to do whatever makes you feel comfortable. beautiful ring, can't wait to make one or two.

    @Wow wow wow ! Just found this tutorial tonight. And gave it a whirl.
    So far ive been doing chain maille and my other hobby is card making.i asked for a ring mandrel for xmas, and have only attempted ONE basic ring so far. Until tonight! I didnt have a flat backed gem, but i DID have some sticky flat backed gems which i use on my cards lol ( but i was only practising right?! Lol)
    Anyway, i took my time, and fiddled and faffed and ohhhhhh its lovely!
    (Hubby asked " my god! how did you do that? Its spectacular! "
    I wont lie, it came out too big but im gonna try again.
    My only issue was, when i finished the weave, and had to wrap the 6 wires together where the stone was meant to go, i couldnt get it tight enough, and it was springing open a bit, which contibuted to making the ring 2 sizes too big. Any tips please kelly? X

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  9 місяців тому +1

      Oh fantastic, that comes with practice, mine tend to change size too.😅 Keep putting it back on the mandrel, then adjust if you need to, work a little, then go back on the mandrel. It does get easier with time 👍💕

    Love this ring! What is the largest size stone that you think would work with this design?

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  5 років тому +1

      I think you could use a 10mm cab, at a push, it would look big and may get in the way when worn. I really wouldn't recommend any bigger but it's entirely up to you. If you wanted to do a really big one you could start with more wires so it's got more at the centre to hold it in place 👍 thank you 🌹

      I don’t like to see glue, it’s like cheating 😅 (but that’s just my view) mine stays in, I wear it every day. Maybe make a few to practice with first, it is a tricky one to master ❤️

    QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO WOULD KNOW: I noticed she was making the weave a bit loose, is that because it is going to be a ring, essentially wrapped into a circle? The weave seems to have tightened up after she wrapped it around the mandrel but I could be mistaken. Then again I'm only 8:21 into the video but was curious as to why the weave seems so loose.

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  3 роки тому +4

      I wasn't aware I was working the weave loose. I try and not pull it too tight so I can compress the weave together to keep it tidy, if you work a weave tight it tends to get stuck and you can't slide it together. I think an ideal tension would be loose enough to slide a little but tight enough to look nice and tidy, hope that makes sense...😅

      You could give it a go, just take it slow. Best to have a play around with the wire first, practice a few bends and weaves. I have done a beginners video you may want to watch first. I’ll find a link...

    Yeah..everyone says make them a size bigger, so the first one I made ended up being a size bigger than I wanted it to be! I think if you’re careful with measuring and checking as you go, you maybe should just make them to size.

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  5 років тому +1

      Yes i agree. I normally do that and sometimes then end up a bit smaller but on this video mine actually ended up bigger. I think with a little more practice we could just make them to the right size by being extra careful and keep checking the size as you said 👍

      Unwrap the weaving wire a little and finish it with a few wraps, then start a new piece of weaving wire and try to start on a different wire so you can't see the join too much, push your weaves together as you go. Hope this helps 🌸

    Nice work. The music is too loud and distracting.

      Thank you. Yes I know, I was too shy to talk over the videos back then. I don't add music any more, turn the volume down for now, sorry...

    Hi what is the make of the wire you use is it dead soft. I’m looking for dead soft I am just starting out and find the wire I have too hard to work with. Thankyou

      Yes always dead soft, in the UK it's just called soft or annealed (if it's silver) ❤️

    Your voice is pleasant, and I love music, but cannot say I’m able to tolerate that repetitive background music. I found before without it was easy to watch your videos. But now I find this distractive and annoying. Maybe it’s too loud? Idk. Perhaps others like it? Just saying. You do good work. I suppose I could use the mute feature. I tend to do my own thing anyway. But I have enjoyed your skills and learned a few things thus far. Thank you

      After I wrote my comment I read some other comments about it. I now understand why the music was used. I didn’t realize this was one of you first videos? You do excellent narrating instructions and your voice is lovely and soothing.
      I play guitar myself and as much as I appreciate it, while focusing it is challenging, glad you are confident now without it. Placing it on mute takes away from your useful instructions. Keep on keeping on young lady.

      Thank you so much, I wasn't very confident to start with but I wanted to share my designs. I keep it all music free these days unless I'm making an advert 😊 thank you for your comments 🌹
