To be fair strats change over time, the cap jump tech may not have existed back then. No run is really a bad run, cause at least they've tried something

@@mariotheundying there's a couple things there, a) this is clearly a goofy category, thus a lot of submissions may just be people submitting a run for funsies, b) tech gets discovered over time, I'm not knowledgeable in the history of mario odyssey runs but it is possible that there was a time when the chained hat throw-hat jump tech hadn't been developed or was really uncommon, then those runs would've been done without using the hat jump tech. Speedrunning is a fascinating thing because runs and routes don't just get created, they evolve over time as communities find new tech, test now strategies and experiment. It's part of what makes the stuff so engrossing, is that it's fuelled by a community, and thus any and all contributions, be they runs, tases, or just the enthusiasm of viewers, is part of what drives the whole scene. It's a major reason why I'm somewhat disappointed at the number of 'imagine being below this run' comments, cause I genuinely do believe that every run is valuable to the community and to the runner because at least you've done a thing!

@@mariotheundying New routes and tricks are discovered all the time. You're not gonna automatically know what the best way to approach a run is going to be, and spending *all* of your time searching for some hypothetical best route just isn't practical for most runners; it's a community effort. Unless it's a TAS.

@@cornfield2120it's a common misconception that blindness is complete darkness, it's actually considerably more common to have spots missing. usually it's caused by degenerative diseases like glaucoma or cataracts. from what i know, it's pretty common to lose peripheral vision or have a blindspot in the center of your vision. i'm not an expert though, so i could be wrong !
@@Itsmaximillianhighdefinition Everyone has a tiny blind spot where a blood vessel enters the eye. Your brain is really good at essentially editing it out, so you don't notice it unless you are actively trying to. Some people however have other blind spots due to various conditions, and it sounds like the op has one in the center of their vision, which means they end up not being able to see things they look directly at, *and* the highest resolution part of their vision is gone

5:30 No way looking at Mario turning into a dinosaur should count as run ending, because I could not find direct evidence that dinosaurs had nipples, probably because there are much better things to research and nipples are soft tissue.

I don’t think this is a challenge, I think this is always how he plays because if he sees Mario’s nipples he examines them for so long he loses his pace and has to reset the run.

Tbf, there are people that actively seek last place in a speedrun area. Minecraft actually had such a massive problem with it that they had to create rules to ban some of those runs.
