It’s a slippery slope this fly tying, you have got me interested in dying now, the colours you have are amazing natural and gets me thinking about the colours I’d like to try. Great video, thank you Davie. All the best.
Awesome video Davie and great examples of what can be done when you dye your own materials. It is because of you and some of your earlier dying videos that I began dying my very own and it is amazing how much more creativity and freedom this simple task provides. Sure wish I was able to find a kilo bag of CDC myself, no matter where they came from lol. Thanks for everything you do for our community!
Отличный материал, а я с Китая выписывал, там в пакетах по 20 штук , совсем мало! У вас , Дэви, смотрю пакетынамного больше и пышно набиты пером,класс!
Great. Was goning to do some dying today. Fur, but might as well try for that rusty dun on some white CDC. Think I'll look and take a gamble on a big bag of CDC. Don't have many vices so wasting a bit feathers isn't too bad.
I have dyed deer, squirrel, and Hungarian partridge. You are right about experimenting. I have come up with some very interesting colors. Haven’t tried CDC. For dying, isn’t it necessary to remove oils for the dye to set? Do you treat your CDC to make them float after the dying process? What product would you recommend?
Hi Glen, I have attached a link that I had to the CDC but unfortunately it is coming up as no longer available, I have attached it for you to see....www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Soft-HP-109-CDC-Duck-Plumage_60749689153.html?spm=a2700.details.0.0.50283187ZnL2IB All the very best Davie
Hi David, I have CDC feathers from geese as well as other duck so I would think most waterfowl have these feathers and it's not a daft question it's a great question and one certainly worth asking..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail I have harvested CDC off many varieties of ducks and geese. They are mostly different shades of gray but mature snow geese have white. Some bird species have quite small feathers and amounts of CDC, others are larger and more abundant. For whatever that’s worth. If you don’t hunt you might have a friend that does. The CDC feathers are located on the back near the tail. There are oil glands located there. You have probably watched a duck spreading the oil around its feathers without realizing it like it was preening it’s feathers.
Hi Gizmo Carr, I have though it was many years ago as I used to know a gentleman that was in the paper trade and he used it a lot to brighten white marabou and gave it a lovely UV colour. All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail I have added it to the posts of parachute dry flies to see them better in low light and tipped the end of tails of other patterns using it. I found marking pens that work and mixed UV pigment in clear nail hardener nail polish and used it to add eyes and glow to heads. The only way you can notice the effect is using a UV light. Fish notice it more than you might expect. It works for flies and strike indicators. One late evening fishing for Brook Trout, the fish were hitting a pea size indicator and not the fly. I add a hook to the foam indicator, used it, and caught fish just using it. It works for egg patterns for Steelhead and Salmon too. In discolored water, it is the only thing that works.

Have you ever tried adding luminescent pigments to feathers?🤔

Great Davie, can you say do you have to retreat the CDC after dying to return its hydrophobic properties? Thanks

How to make light olive green marabou sir?

You have to be a professional tier to buy and dye that amount of CDC.
