Egonu has got to be the best spiker in the world right now. Some of the things she’s done during this tournament are just incredible. Can’t wait to see her bring it her all at the Olympics.
@David Bovo exactly, boskovic performs well when she has a good setter and a good team supporting her like with serbian NT, if the teams crumbles she does as well, while egonu many times carried the whole team on her shoulders even in rough times, the difference is obvious and it will come out even more in the future
C C True but same goes for Egonu. Last VNL against China, they were up 2-0 sets. Then Egonu & Italy lost their composure & lost to China. I have to say Zhu Ting still tops both Egonu & Boskovic. Zhu Ting is definitely in a league of her own for right now

Great match! The floor defence of both team were top notch having awesome liberos! But i think De Gennaro was the better one! And the setter! Man! That's the game changer! Imoco's setter was more consistent. Not hating on Lloyd, but obviously ahe had to many miscommunication and poor sets to her spikers! Still great match!

Wolosz si conferma ancora una volta un sogno di palleggiatrice, per me di gran lunga la numero 1 al mondo nel suo ruolo e Paola, dopo un Europeo sotto tono, vince il duello a distanza con Boskovic disputando un torneo stellare e al momento si conferma l' attaccante più forte del mondo. Ma è tutta la squadra da elogiare Folie, De Kruijf, Hill, Sylla e che dire di De Gennaro... da anni il libero più forte del mondo! Grande merito và anche a Daniele Santarelli e al suo staff (senza dimenticare quanto fatto anche da Davide Mazzanti), hanno costruito un gruppo eccezzionale che gioca una pallavolo stellare. @David Bovo E' vero, Sylla un pò sotto tono in attacco ma l' ho vista meglio di altre volte in difesa e ricezione. Per quanto riguarda Scandicci purtroppo l' inizio della stagione è stato condizionato da svariati problemi legati alla condizione fisica di diverse atlete (vedi ad esempio Bricio...) rientrate piuttosto acciaccate dai vari impegni con le nazionali, inoltre l' infortunio di Lucia, che non le ha mai permesso in pratica di scendere in campo, non ci voleva. Ma la squadra è forte, giovane ma forte e (almeno io) sono fiducioso in un girone di ritorno positivo. Ovvio che la società punti alla finale scudetto! PS. non è detto che Lucia non ce la faccia per le Olimpiadi... anche Gennari stà facendo molto bene a Busto!
@David Bovo Sicuramente Lucia starà ferma (agonisticamente parlando, fisicamente potrà tenersi in forma) tutta la stagione. Si parla di almeno 5 mesi prima di un ipotetico rientro in campo. In linea puramente teorica potrebbe essere disponibile per le Olimpiadi e la sua convocazione, se ce la dovesse fare, mi sembrerebbe anche un atto doveroso per una giocatrice che tanto ha dato alla Nazionale (non ci dimentichiamo il mondiale dello scorso anno) e per la quale, per motivi anagrafici, questa potrebbe essere anche l' ultima opportunità per parteciparvi. Non sapevo che Gennari non volesse rientrare in Nazionale, un vero peccato. PS ho assistito a Scandicci-Busto insieme ad un tecnico di Scandicci un paio di domeniche fà e ad entrambi è parso evidente un calo fisico notevole nel 4 e 5 set dovuto alla partita di coppa. Con una tenuta migliore probabilmente avremmo vinto 3 a 1 e portato a casa i 3 punti. Ovvio che manchi la controprova, solo una nostra impressione. Di Busto mi ha impressionato molto la ragazzina (solo 20 anni) Belga (Herbots), molto, ma molto brava! fosse Italiana sarebbe, secondo me, la sostituta perfetta di Lucia...

Ovvio che Lucia andrebbe portata non solo per riconoscienza, ma se potesse dare il suo contributo in campo, e questo solo il buon Mazzanti lo potrà giudicare al momento opportuno. Elena è migliorata molto in ricezione e anche in difesa. Si vede che la cura "Mencarelli" (notoriamente bravo con i giovani) con lei stà funzionando. Molto bene anche Lubian che secondo me potrebbe anche rientrare nei 4 centrali di Tokyo... vedremo

La verità è che Egonu è da sempre stata destinata ad essere più forte, anche solo per la tempra che ha, visto che varie volte si è messa la squadra sulle spalle vincendo quasi da sola ( vedi in nazionale). Ma soprattutto deve imparare a giocare con i centrali... di solito gliela dà quando non gliela dovrebbe dare e non gliela da quando dovrebbe, e comunque quando gliela da, gliela da male... ma Ofelia è giovane ed ha ampi margini di miglioramento da un punto di vista tattico. Ci stanno lavorando.
The Ecza coach has a problem with himself. It has a group of luxury substitutes, however it insists on playing with the same seven players. For example, he has excellent alternatives such as Hande Baladin, complete player, finishes, blocks, receives very well and fights in the plays as very few. If you are facing a team like Imoco, you must to have strategic alternatives, but only use her when Boskovic rests. So how will you get different results if you insist on the same? It's not a matter of Egonu or not. Egonu is part of a team that is practically unbeatable by any other team, never lost a match in the season 2019-2020 except against the weakest team of Serie A1, when the coach Santarelli wanted to see what the substitutes and some U18 could face a weak team without using the starting seven, he did that 3 times, once in Cev CL, and the youth won twice. When they were losing the tie break, he didn't Egonu to make a difference, he definitely wanted the substitutes to do their best by themself and eventually win. Folie and de Kruijf can block everybody, Bošković and Zhu included (as they have often done with monster blocks), the two outside hitters Hill and Sylla are very very strong, Asia Wołosz, nicknamed "fairy hands", is probably the best setter around and Moki De Gennaro the best libero--she often avoids passing the ball to Wołosz or Malinov, she directly sends the ball to Egonu or an outside hitter without looking where she may be (she knows by heart), especially when very far from her mate and with much of a surprise for the opposite block, both with Imoco and the Italian NT. Half of the starting players are from the Italian NT that got the silver medal at the 2018 World Championship winning every match except the final against Serbia, defeating and eliminating the USNT and defeating China twice in a few days. After that World Championship, Imoco Conegliano convinced Sylla to enter the team, and a year later even Egonu and Sorokaite, who immediately found it easy to play with De Gennaro, de Kruijf, Wołosz, Hill, as if they had always played together. Coach Santarelli was the co-coach of the current coach of the Italian NT with Imoco, so the players of both teams play with the same basic ideas: the matches must be closed as fast as possible, the rallies must be as fast as possible (the players need to spend as little energy as possible match after match), the hitters and opposite must forget to be only that but be as strong diggers as possible (using a lot of energy for that), the substitutes must play as much as possible, they are part of the team and they can be prepared to face any situation, they are not mere substitutes, they are totally members of the team and are the future both of the volleyball and their NT. Sharing the same philosophy, with professionals at that level, it was easy for Imoco to have real team, not individual players, they made this through a few years of experience together in their club and in the renewed NT. In the 2019-2020 season and in this world final, Imoco had a starting team of 7 + 1, with Sorokaite, who can play both as opposite and outside hitter. Sorokaite is not a great digger like Sylla and what Egonu is willing to become, she is a great blocker too, but she is also a great server. In this match against Eczacibaşi, the substitutes were strong enough to defeat Eczacibaşi, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19 e 25-21 is a typical and rare excellent score for a top team of the Italian League against Imoco. Imoco played far below its usual easiness and strength, nicknamed "symphony" by the Italian media, in that they perfectly know by heart where they are in any particular moment, so they play very fast and no one has been able to to be a difficult match during the past season. In 2019-2020 they have usually won 3-0 against any team, Novara included. Two of the starting seven were heavily injured during the championship and this match, Folie and Sylla, but played anyway, it is their way to give all they have to give. Coach Santarelli didn't spare Sylla in a match so important as the semi-final against VakıfBank, it was not the case, but he thought he could spare Sylla after the first set here, the team didn't need her to win the match. After this match Sylla and Folie spent months away from the Serie A1 and the CEV CL in order to follow therapies and rehabs for their shoulders. Sylla was the 2018 FIVB World Championship's best outside hitter, ex equo along with Zhu. The only team that can face Imoco at the moment is VakıfBank, they have practically been defeated by Imoco for a couple of years when they didn't have Egonu and Sorokaite in their roster, yet in this championship they almost defeated Imoco nevertheless, no matter Sylla and Folie were injured when they palyed the game. The semi-final against VakıfBank has been the only match in which Imoco could have been actually defeated. This win here, without Sylla, was even too obviously doomed like every other match Imoco played in the Italian and European Leagues during the season. As I have read, you pointed out Carli Lloyd as the scapegoat of this final. She wasn't, she was eventually prepared to face an issue: Imoco had the strongest block in the world, De Jruijf and Folie supported by Sorokaite, Egonu e Wołosz (and Sylla): Kim, Natalia, Bošković were blocked by Folie and De Jruijf like any other top team, nothing knew and no way to find a scapegoat, Carli Lloyd simply tried her best to give a chance to her mates in order to have a chance to break it. She cwas playing for the her team, not for herself, she could have sent balls here and there for her vanity, where their mates could play them easy and be blocked or not play them at all, she is a great professional, not a girl happened to bue there are the setter of an important world team. The 2019-2020 season has been a series of repeated comments by the defeated players in Italy. Current world champions like the Serbians who play in Serie A1 said the same thing like any player after a defeat by Imoco: they are unbeatable, there is no chance to against them, they are to high, never seen anything like them and for the moment no one can even think match them, but one fights against them to win, it's impossible, but when we play we try to forget all this, we try to play our match, as though we didn't know anything about the impossibility, yet what we find most offending is not their greatness and their art, it is how we never entered the match, we can play far better than this, lose a match against them with honor, but this hasn't been the case, it is something of ourselves against ourselves, w must mature a lot, we cannot be defeated so easily against a dream team that is what it is. This said, Imoco reached the semi-finals of the Cev Champions League and won the regular season of the Serie A1, due to the Covid crisis could not have a chance to win its first CHampins League. Hill postponed her announced retirement after the Olympics were postponed to 2021. Al of the starting seven renewed their contracts with Imoco, the substitutes went to other teams, all the substitutes but one are new, among them Jenny Geerties who was someone for the club. In my view Imoco may suffer something if Sorokaite leaves the team and, as it is rumored, goes back to play in Japan. All the other teams are changing their main roster, Imoco confirmed the 2019-2020 starting roster for 2020-2021: de Kruijf, Folie, De Gennaro, Wołosz, Hill, Sylla and Egonu. The others are changing something, maybe next year will not be not so boring as the previous one, when Imoco won matches too easily, Eczacibaşi, thanks toVakıfBank there was some real thrill for Imoco. No, it's not a matter of Egonu, to me Egonu, Zhu and Bošković are the most wonderful scorers. Yet this is a team sport, you cannot name a player better o worse than others, it's a team against a team. and that is it. This match of Imoco against Eczacibaşi was really nothing for Imoco, they knew, after eliminating VakıfBank, that the world title was there for them: a meagre 22-25, 25-14, 25-19 e 25-21.

Imoco's offence was strong here. Weird, Lloyd's game was off on this one. The hitters were getting past the blocks from her sets almost every time, but the attacks were going to the same spot every time... the Imoco receivers just had to be there and the ball will always come to them. Almost as if she was forcing the sets to get past the blocks which limited the options for the hitters.

Imoco beat Eczacibasi 3-1 but not before drama in the first set in which they led 16-8 but eventually lost 22-25 after a strong comeback by their opponents. But after winning the second set by 25-14, they did not look in danger of losing and took the next two sets 25-19 and 25-21. Egonu was particularly impressive and was awarded the MVP. Beautiful Best Setter Wolosz was also very effective and a steadying influence. Geerties replaced the error-prone Sylla in the second set and though she did not score many points, she made some good saves. Eczacibasi did well to get into the final instead of VakifBank. The crystal trophy does not look nice. I prefer big gold-plated trophies.

Imoco's setter was more consistent. Not hating on Lloyd, but obviously ahe had to many miscommunication and poor sets to her spikers! Still great match!

Wolosz si conferma ancora una volta un sogno di palleggiatrice, per me di gran lunga la numero 1 al mondo nel suo ruolo e Paola, dopo un Europeo sotto tono, vince il duello a distanza con Boskovic disputando un torneo stellare e al momento si conferma l' attaccante più forte del mondo. Ma è tutta la squadra da elogiare Folie, De Kruijf, Hill, Sylla e che dire di De Gennaro... da anni il libero più forte del mondo!
Grande merito và anche a Daniele Santarelli e al suo staff (senza dimenticare quanto fatto anche da Davide Mazzanti), hanno costruito un gruppo eccezzionale che gioca una pallavolo stellare.

@David Bovo E' vero, Sylla un pò sotto tono in attacco ma l' ho vista meglio di altre volte in difesa e ricezione.
Per quanto riguarda Scandicci purtroppo l' inizio della stagione è stato condizionato da svariati problemi legati alla condizione fisica di diverse atlete (vedi ad esempio Bricio...) rientrate piuttosto acciaccate dai vari impegni con le nazionali, inoltre l' infortunio di Lucia, che non le ha mai permesso in pratica di scendere in campo, non ci voleva. Ma la squadra è forte, giovane ma forte e (almeno io) sono fiducioso in un girone di ritorno positivo. Ovvio che la società punti alla finale scudetto!
PS. non è detto che Lucia non ce la faccia per le Olimpiadi... anche Gennari stà facendo molto bene a Busto!
@David Bovo Sicuramente Lucia starà ferma (agonisticamente parlando, fisicamente potrà tenersi in forma) tutta la stagione. Si parla di almeno 5 mesi prima di un ipotetico rientro in campo. In linea puramente teorica potrebbe essere disponibile per le Olimpiadi e la sua convocazione, se ce la dovesse fare, mi sembrerebbe anche un atto doveroso per una giocatrice che tanto ha dato alla Nazionale (non ci dimentichiamo il mondiale dello scorso anno) e per la quale, per motivi anagrafici, questa potrebbe essere anche l' ultima opportunità per parteciparvi. Non sapevo che Gennari non volesse rientrare in Nazionale, un vero peccato.
PS ho assistito a Scandicci-Busto insieme ad un tecnico di Scandicci un paio di domeniche fà e ad entrambi è parso evidente un calo fisico notevole nel 4 e 5 set dovuto alla partita di coppa. Con una tenuta migliore probabilmente avremmo vinto 3 a 1 e portato a casa i 3 punti. Ovvio che manchi la controprova, solo una nostra impressione.
Di Busto mi ha impressionato molto la ragazzina (solo 20 anni) Belga (Herbots), molto, ma molto brava! fosse Italiana sarebbe, secondo me, la sostituta perfetta di Lucia...
@David Bovo Quello che dici è giusto e lo condivido al 100%. Ovvio che Lucia andrebbe portata non solo per riconoscienza, ma se potesse dare il suo contributo in campo, e questo solo il buon Mazzanti lo potrà giudicare al momento opportuno.
Elena è migliorata molto in ricezione e anche in difesa. Si vede che la cura "Mencarelli" (notoriamente bravo con i giovani) con lei stà funzionando. Molto bene anche Lubian che secondo me potrebbe anche rientrare nei 4 centrali di Tokyo... vedremo
@David Bovo Non è una novità, sempre a trovare scuse su scuse, l'anno scorso in Champions perse perchè era malata, quest'anno è colpa dell'alzatrice blablabla. La verità è che Egonu è da sempre stata destinata ad essere più forte, anche solo per la tempra che ha, visto che varie volte si è messa la squadra sulle spalle vincendo quasi da sola ( vedi in nazionale). Per le Olimpiadi però sarà imperativo sostenerla, non potrà vincere da sola...

Ma soprattutto deve imparare a giocare con i centrali... di solito gliela dà quando non gliela dovrebbe dare e non gliela da quando dovrebbe, e comunque quando gliela da, gliela da male... ma Ofelia è giovane ed ha ampi margini di miglioramento da un punto di vista tattico. The Ecza coach has a problem with himself. It has a group of luxury substitutes, however it insists on playing with the same seven players. For example, he has excellent alternatives such as Hande Baladin, complete player, finishes, blocks, receives very well and fights in the plays as very few. It's not a matter of Egonu or not. Egonu is part of a team that is practically unbeatable by any other team, never lost a match in the season 2019-2020 except against the weakest team of Serie A1, when the coach Santarelli wanted to see what the substitutes and some U18 could face a weak team without using the starting seven, he did that 3 times, once in Cev CL, and the youth won twice. When they were losing the tie break, he didn't Egonu to make a difference, he definitely wanted the substitutes to do their best by themself and eventually win. Folie and de Kruijf can block everybody, Bošković and Zhu included (as they have often done with monster blocks), the two outside hitters Hill and Sylla are very very strong, Asia Wołosz, nicknamed "fairy hands", is probably the best setter around and Moki De Gennaro the best libero--she often avoids passing the ball to Wołosz or Malinov, she directly sends the ball to Egonu or an outside hitter without looking where she may be (she knows by heart), especially when very far from her mate and with much of a surprise for the opposite block, both with Imoco and the Italian NT. Half of the starting players are from the Italian NT that got the silver medal at the 2018 World Championship winning every match except the final against Serbia, defeating and eliminating the USNT and defeating China twice in a few days. After that World Championship, Imoco Conegliano convinced Sylla to enter the team, and a year later even Egonu and Sorokaite, who immediately found it easy to play with De Gennaro, de Kruijf, Wołosz, Hill, as if they had always played together. Coach Santarelli was the co-coach of the current coach of the Italian NT with Imoco, so the players of both teams play with the same basic ideas: the matches must be closed as fast as possible, the rallies must be as fast as possible (the players need to spend as little energy as possible match after match), the hitters and opposite must forget to be only that but be as strong diggers as possible (using a lot of energy for that), the substitutes must play as much as possible, they are part of the team and they can be prepared to face any situation, they are not mere substitutes, they are totally members of the team and are the future both of the volleyball and their NT. Sharing the same philosophy, with professionals at that level, it was easy for Imoco to have real team, not individual players, they made this through a few years of experience together in their club and in the renewed NT. In the 2019-2020 season and in this world final, Imoco had a starting team of 7 + 1, with Sorokaite, who can play both as opposite and outside hitter. Sorokaite is not a great digger like Sylla and what Egonu is willing to become, she is a great blocker too, but she is also a great server. In this match against Eczacibaşi, the substitutes were strong enough to defeat Eczacibaşi, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19 e 25-21 is a typical and rare excellent score for a top team of the Italian League against Imoco. Imoco played far below its usual easiness and strength, nicknamed "symphony" by the Italian media, in that they perfectly know by heart where they are in any particular moment, so they play very fast and no one has been able to to be a difficult match during the past season. In 2019-2020 they have usually won 3-0 against any team, Novara included. Two of the starting seven were heavily injured during the championship and this match, Folie and Sylla, but played anyway, it is their way to give all they have to give. Coach Santarelli didn't spare Sylla in a match so important as the semi-final against VakıfBank, it was not the case, but he thought he could spare Sylla after the first set here, the team didn't need her to win the match. After this match Sylla and Folie spent months away from the Serie A1 and the CEV CL in order to follow therapies and rehabs for their shoulders. Sylla was the 2018 FIVB World Championship's best outside hitter, ex equo along with Zhu. The only team that can face Imoco at the moment is VakıfBank, they have practically been defeated by Imoco for a couple of years when they didn't have Egonu and Sorokaite in their roster, yet in this championship they almost defeated Imoco nevertheless, no matter Sylla and Folie were injured when they palyed the game. The semi-final against VakıfBank has been the only match in which Imoco could have been actually defeated. This win here, without Sylla, was even too obviously doomed like every other match Imoco played in the Italian and European Leagues during the season. As I have read, you pointed out Carli Lloyd as the scapegoat of this final. She wasn't, she was eventually prepared to face an issue: Imoco had the strongest block in the world, De Jruijf and Folie supported by Sorokaite, Egonu e Wołosz (and Sylla): Kim, Natalia, Bošković were blocked by Folie and De Jruijf like any other top team, nothing knew and no way to find a scapegoat, Carli Lloyd simply tried her best to give a chance to her mates in order to have a chance to break it. She cwas playing for the her team, not for herself, she could have sent balls here and there for her vanity, where their mates could play them easy and be blocked or not play them at all, she is a great professional, not a girl happened to bue there are the setter of an important world team. The 2019-2020 season has been a series of repeated comments by the defeated players in Italy. Current world champions like the Serbians who play in Serie A1 said the same thing like any player after a defeat by Imoco: they are unbeatable, there is no chance to against them, they are to high, never seen anything like them and for the moment no one can even think match them, but one fights against them to win, it's impossible, but when we play we try to forget all this, we try to play our match, as though we didn't know anything about the impossibility, yet what we find most offending is not their greatness and their art, it is how we never entered the match, we can play far better than this, lose a match against them with honor, but this hasn't been the case, it is something of ourselves against ourselves, w must mature a lot, we cannot be defeated so easily against a dream team that is what it is. This said, Imoco reached the semi-finals of the Cev Champions League and won the regular season of the Serie A1, due to the Covid crisis could not have a chance to win its first CHampins League. Hill postponed her announced retirement after the Olympics were postponed to 2021. Al of the starting seven renewed their contracts with Imoco, the substitutes went to other teams, all the substitutes but one are new, among them Jenny Geerties who was someone for the club. The others are changing something, maybe next year will not be not so boring as the previous one, when Imoco won matches too easily, Eczacibaşi, thanks toVakıfBank there was some real thrill for Imoco. No, it's not a matter of Egonu, to me Egonu, Zhu and Bošković are the most wonderful scorers. Yet this is a team sport, you cannot name a player better o worse than others, it's a team against a team. and that is it. This match of Imoco against Eczacibaşi was really nothing for Imoco, they knew, after eliminating VakıfBank, that the world title was there for them: a meagre 22-25, 25-14, 25-19 e 25-21.

Weird, Lloyd's game was off on this one. The hitters were getting past the blocks from her sets almost every time, but the attacks were going to the same spot every time... the Imoco receivers just had to be there and the ball will always come to them. Almost as if she was forcing the sets to get past the blocks which limited the options for the hitters.

Imoco beat Eczacibasi 3-1 but not before drama in the first set in which they led 16-8 but eventually lost 22-25 after a strong comeback by their opponents. But after winning the second set by 25-14, they did not look in danger of losing and took the next two sets 25-19 and 25-21. Egonu was particularly impressive and was awarded the MVP. Beautiful Best Setter Wolosz was also very effective and a steadying influence. Geerties replaced the error-prone Sylla in the second set and though she did not score many points, she made some good saves. Eczacibasi did well to get into the final instead of VakifBank. The crystal trophy does not look nice. I prefer big gold-plated trophies.
