This is so timely. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed on how to begin to organize my sewing room. Some on the floor like yours. I don’t know where to even start.
Wow, your stash is huge! I often go through mine and bag up fabrics I know I will not use and give them away. We all have way too much for our brain to manage. And seeing the joy on another face when you gift it is worth it. Then one can see what they have more clearly. It also makes organizing easier. Stuff shuffling doesn't always work. So I'm looking forward to enjoying your journey. ❤
New shelves? You used to have your quilts hung up behind you. Been awhile since I watched, but I am so glad that nothing has changed otherwise. Absolutely made my day. 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Your husband is really a saint. Very few men would even enter your quilting room much less be so involved in your video etc. Guess because it's a business, it benefits him also. Still you gave a good man.
This is so exciting! REALLY! I have bins and bins of fabric and have called in friends to help with all of my scraps and yardage and fat quarters and tools, and ... and MORE than I know what to do with, with a move coming up in three years to a single room in my daughter's home, ninety miles away. I am a hoarder, hunter gatherer; daughter is a minimalist with nothing that I would ever want to own (would rather buy fabric and save scraps than eat!) ... life is a challenge - - and you come along with a working video. This is GREAT!
@@TiffanysQuiltingLife I don't know if I told you before, or not, but ALL of my scraps will go with me, I have my "go" bag all planned out, and I know which two machines I will be taking with me (one in a cabinet and one domestic machine) ... the books? Well, that is a harder decision (my tastes are diverse and varied). I am sure we will have it all worked out over the course of the next three years. Maybe Christ Jesus will return before then! Having a plan, just in case, is half the battle.
Hi Tiffany I really enjoyed this video, you certainly do have lots of fabrics, I thought I had plenty ha. I love the way Scott so lovingly helps you, your a very lucky lady. Xx
The best I can do is create an appetite for quilting in my friends so we can share my excess fabric and I will get their scraps! LOL. Trust me! It will work out very well. Your video is the perfect way for me to end my day! Thank you!
Just wanted to say thanks for doing this video and all the other videos you. Your wall looks great. I really need to organize my fabric so I will know what I have.
I really enjoyed this video. It’s nice to see how other people store their fabric. I quit buying yardage. I like scraps so that’s most of my quilts. I appreciate the insight. I enjoy your videos and you motivate me.
Thank you for sharing this! I need to reorganize my sewing room! I love the way you organized all of your fabric! It will take me some time to do it because I’m waiting to have back surgery after I fell on Dec 10th! I’m hoping the insurance will authorize it soon! ❤
I just started quilting 5 years ago, but still have yards from sewjng for over 50 yrs. Periodically I donate material I dont love to churches or other organizations so they can get some use out of them. Wish I had a room for my quilting.
Ya I just gave away all other sewing related fabric. I purged and now I just have quilting cotton and bag making stuff and some clothes fabric that I like.
Okay, so a tip that Bonnie Hunter has is: To determine that basic color of fabric is to view it from about six feet away. One of the things I thought of, as you were trying to decide color: Take a stab at the basic color, put it where you perceive it to be, in time, you will come across that fabric and it will either fit, or you will move it to a different color. Right now, you are like binging on color (focused on color). I think overtime, senses get dulled. It will be interesting how you view things in about three days, but you will have made a good start on organization - - none of that is wasted.
@@TiffanysQuiltingLife True enough! But we all have our "dreams" ... You are so productive, it is inevitable that things will change. I especially liked when you explained what that one set of shelves held (I was hoping I would get to see all of that stuff. LOL). Anyway, your plan for smaller pieces was a good bit of advice, I thought. I tried that once, but was only working in bins, so that lasted about fifteen minutes! LOL

The problem with that is: I rarely finish the project. My friend is helping me to change that. I started out really attached to Bonnie Hunter. (I figured my problem was lack of discipline, so I should learn to follow directions and a pattern). Then, I tried to have as many pieces of fabric and scraps like Bonnie Hunter has. That was a BIG mistake! LOL Now, I have so many starts and stops of plans for scraps that I just grab a box of scraps and play until I fill up a bigger box. Hi tiff and Scott so enjoyed this! My stash is in a messy mess…not been touched for over a year due to my condition, but really would love to do what you’re doing. My husband no longer with me, so will nab my lovely daughter when she comes in the new year. She lives 1000 miles north, so grabbing the opportunity while I can. She will be astonished I reckon, but she sews for self and her grandkids, so I’m hoping she relieves me of some of the stuff! Bless you for giving me impetus to do something positive Merry Christmas and love to thumper too. 🙏❤️🇦🇺
The prints you call "weird" are Abstract prints. Abstractions of things, such as ocean waves or flowers or whatever. I organize like you, by theme/design, designer, and also color, like lights, darks. Great minds think alike. 😸

Just start with yardage and go from there. That's what I do.
I watched last night. Now watching again. This is so fun to see! Wow, is all I can say! I’d sit and look at fabric all day if I had that much.
Sometimes I just stare and stare then realize I did go in there for something 😄 🤣 😂

These have been in here about 2 years now since we redid both my rooms. This is just the fabric room.
This is a great way to refresh your memory of all the fabric you have.
For sure 😊

A lot of work Tiffany, it looks beautiful!

Yes, I'm glad he helped me too, cause I would have been twice as worn out today from all that organizing yesterday.
Thanks for showing me this. I now have a launching spot to do my fabrics….picture it all in tubs, bins, bags and boxes.

Ya most of this is mainly for borders or accents. Or main fabric to a project.
Loved your first quilt. Looks like my first one. Which I am proud of 🤣 1:31:36

I want that room! Love it😊

That’s exactly how I sort my fabrics.

I like your organization. Is it wrong to celebrate all the beautiful fabrics you have? So much EYE CANDY!
It's nice to celebrate 😊
I’d never be able to make a decision with that many choices.
Me either.

Hi Tiffany ❤
Hello 👋
I saw it as brown, but if my only choice is purple or pink, I would put it in the pink (then you may see the brown. LOL)
Good evening! You have your work cut out for you! Do you just fold your fabric or is it wrapped around something?
Thank you!
It's wrapped on magazine boards.
If they match patterns I would seperate by color
I just dropped my 6 inch by 24 inch plastic ruler on point where a toe hooks on😢. I feel for your foot 😢
I love your stash, but having this much fabric to chose from would completely overwhelm me. Where do you start when selecting fabric for a project?
I kinda just shop the room. I choose a main print and go from there. Most this ends up as borders or accent colors or fill in fabric.
Are you not worried about your fabrics fading from light exposure when they are stored on open shelves?
There is no light in the room. The window has blackout curtains. So no matter the time of day I have to turn a light on to see.
Multi

And I thought I had a lot of fat quarters!
Looks brown ish to me🤷♀️
