This clip is absolutely brilliant. Brother Stephen has his Latka Gravas on, Brother Donn has perfect comedic timing (along with his little trombone shimmy at 4:15), the host Tudi Wiggins seems to be in on the gag, and the band knocks out some beautiful, pure, back-to-basics rock and roll. I wish that the Brother Stephen and the Humanitarians album were available again!
God bless Lively Shively, Ky and the boys from Pleasure Ridge Park. And PS Steve speaks perfect English, but in NY, no one seemed to understand his Louisville Ky accent, but that apparently they would let him play anyway. So...great fun was had...RIP Steve!!
When I played with Tim Krekel in the late 70s and early 80s, the two guitar players he mentioned most were Lonnie Mack, natch, and Steve Ferguson. I can't think of any better recommendation to get than one from Krekel...
I was privileged to have worked in a band with Steve and NRBQ's original drummer Tom Staley. Both remain the biggest influences on my own music as bass player. We went up to New England to stake Steve;s claim so to speak but I think going back to Louisville was the best thing for him as is evidenced by this excellent video and performance. He's at his peak here. Steve Ferguson understood what it is to make that joyous noise unto the Lord. RIP, Steve Ferguson. Your friend, Bob Marcus
Those Kentucky boys like Ferguson are damned crafty. I love that language he speaks. If it's entirely made up he's brilliant. I'll bet he can even change a tire and fix a computer. He might not even need the aid of a federal bureaucrat to straighten him out. Good playing and singing too.
Rox X, it's true what you say about Steve regarding not being able to fix a tire or computer. He really did need attending to. But to those who worked with him and remain devoted to what he brought to us through his unique brand of rock and roll, none of that mattered -- until our touring car got a flat....

Fergie & Donn Adams & co. - Wow, thanks for sharing! (Fergie was the greatest. ~ )
That trombone solo kills it. The music in the Adams house must’ve been something.
RIP Brother Donn Adams.

Never forget how Fergie influenced me back in my Louisville years. Miss him like a front tooth.
Holy shit this is so good!!!
Brother Steve was higher than a peach on a Georgia tree speaking that jive talk.

That looks like Roky Erickson on bass.
Does anyone remember the host in 70's TV movies?
That's good rock & roll. Was this done after he left NRBQ?
+jmeintn Yes, he left NRBQ in the early 70's
@@alphadogstudio he also came back for about a year in the mid 70’s. ‘74-‘75 I think
@@thomasminarchickjr.7355 He didn't record with them (in that era) though, at least nothing that was released.
