When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, He didn't answer them by saying prayer wasn't important or necessary. Rather He provided them/us a model prayer in what has become known as the Lord's prayer in Luke 11:1-4. I beg to differ that prayer isn't necessary. Paul even instructs us in 1Thessalonians 5:17 to pray without ceasing. Prayer is how children of God communicate with Him.
