- In this episode, Arin again asks Dan if they can watch Cats (2019) together, and Dan says "yeah absolutely" really quickly and then moves onto the next topic, similar to the way you would answer your mom when she asks if you did your homework, when you really didn't. It seems Dan is not really that invested in seeing Cats with Arin, and I've been doing some serious soul searching trying to figure out why. It's causing me great agony and torment, and frankly causing my IBS to flare up, which is a whole thing in itself. One cannot be blamed for daydreaming about Arin and Dan leaving that theater together, grinning ear to ear as they skip down the sidewalk singing the Mr. Mistoffelees song in perfect harmony, and maybe stopping for frozen yogurt after. When you consider the fact that Dan is a huge furry and loves to boink people in animal costumes every day of his life, it really doesn't make much sense, and you have to wonder if Dan even really is a furry, or if his name is even really Dan Avidan? It could be Fred Von Pretzels or even Barack O'Neil. There is no way to know and tbh I'm freaking out. I don't even know what to do at this point.

Dan’s “NOOOOO” at around 2 mins in has got to be one of the most satisfying NOOOOO’s of all time
What about the Mario maker one?
Eat your well-done heart out Darth Vader! 😏😘
If you search "No god please no," it's an almost perfect Steve Carell.
Reminded me of Jacob 😔
That or arins no from that Kirby golf game
Arin: "How many spiders are there?"
Dan: "I don't know; can we stop playing this please?!"
That's a Ḿ̴̛͍̣̙̮̩̫͍̱̕O̶̢̧̭̳̲̻̩̟̠̗̾̕Ơ̷̩͊̆̽͛̿͘͝͝D̶̙̪̦̕ͅ
"I buy all-a the Bayala stuff."
Okay, everyone can pack it up. We've reached the final threshold of humor. There's nowhere else to go but down.
Game grumps jumped the shark
Hey, your icon is Kururu! I haven't thought about Sgt Frog in forever! :D
For anyone wondering, this is all based on a German series of dolls and toys
Yeah I read it was released in Germany but Dan says it’s French?
They look pretty
Thank you, I was kinda curious about that.
I used to collect Bayala figures.
i knew some of these characters looked so fucking familiar, i was just watching this like "i've seen these outfits somewhere..."
Dan: Don’t curse
Me: dude, y’all are so demonetized anyway for using the term, hairy teacup
I love the movie "Strange Magic" that Arin was talking about. My old roommate and I used to pull it up on the computer and watch it all the time.
Thank you!! I was waiting for a comment about strange magic. I actually really loved it!
It's one of my faves 😭
Their version of Mistreated is one of my favorites! Alan Cumming crushed it as the Bog King in that movie. Who knew Floop from Spy Kids could sing!
Its one of my favorite movies, I watch it all the time with my siblings. The music is awesome!
It has become my go-to “bad film” for me
I love when arin has a burpy stroke right in the middle of a sentence.
They've talked about seeing cats together for many episodes now 😂
It honestly should be a Mystery Science Theater 2000 experience at this point it’s been hyped so much.
Michael Anderson 2000? Like a low budget MST3K? I’m into it.
norweeg whoops, wrong key, good catch.
It should be the next 10 Minute Power Hour
“...the magic of Bayala began to fade away.”
Dan: *NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*
Edit: Wow, thanks for the likes
God, this made me die of laughter
I love it when Dan gets fake emotional like that. I wish there was a compilation of Dan's fake emotional outbursts.
14:01"The beans are the rewards of the game" So Arin is basically playing this for all the beans? ... I'll see myself out.
Bean there done that before
The way that girl is stroking her huge braid, it's like her job is to breed those unicorns and she *loves* it.
Wow I actually liked strange magic 😂 the character designs are pretty sweet, I thought!
lightning mcgee saaaame!!! I actually really liked how the characters were animated. I think the movie was beautiful
I enjoyed it- songs stuck in my head while on a long flight from Aus to the UK its was let it go for me all over again to my family's dismay.
Anyone reminded of the, “A bean!” clip from that one Harry Potter game that Call Me Kevin is always interjecting into his playthroughs 😂
Personally, I thought of the clip from the Invader Zim pilot where Dib says, "What's the matter? Scared of BEANS, Space Boy?"
A BeEeeAaAnn
funnyscares595 scared of BEEEAAANNZZZZ? SPACEBOOOOOYYYY?
SENZU BEAN!
We didn't even see a single dragon, my disappointment is immeasurable.
And MY day is ruined.
Plus he never flied
Never played this game but my foreshadowing sense tells me that "talking rock" was a dragon egg, and if they didn't reveal that in the next two or three missions it'd be a massive cocktease.
Now you know how Game of Thrones fans feel.
Arin: Constantly making references to being curved by someone at a party.
Me: Bro...who hurt you...😢
Everyone curving him
some of that shit don't even sound like a curve. It sounds like when Siri tells you to turn left 3 seconds beforehand and you're in the wrong lane.
23:34
I didn't think I needed Arin trying to sing frozen songs yet here we are
Dude ok honestly if this was a thing when I was a kid, I’d be so into the lore
EDIT: Ok I googled it and based on how much I like the designs now at age 23 I woulda been WAY into these
Same. I would've loved this game. It isnt complete shit like other games and the controls are probably good enough. The design is also adorable
As a 26 year old, I need to see this movie
im 24 ans honestly half considering buying this game bc it looks pretty and i love fairies
I saw a flower unicorn "statuette" and it was beautiful
it is the frenchiest fry It’s apparently based on a movie that came out last year, which in turn is based on a toy franchise!
Arin: HavE yoU EveR SeEN- Okay, okay... I don't remember what it was called. George Lucas was working on a film about fairies
Me: Strange magic?
Arin: So they bought this fairy movie... That sUCks
Me: Yep. Strange magic.
Arin: What is it called?... it's called something super generic... it's called like "magic friends"-
Me: Strange magic.
Arin: ... Strange magic!
Me: Yep.
I love when they talked about Strange Magic movie, I was like "Hey! Yeah! This movie is adorable!"
Arin: and this movie SUCKS !
Me: NOOOOO !!
This game was based on a movie. It was localized in America by Viva Kids as "The Fairy Princess and the Unicorn" and was available at dollar stores on DVD.
Which is based off toys! 🤣
This is my favorite part about you guys. You guys dont play alot of main stream games that all the other youtubers play. You play random ass games that no one would even think about and make them hilarious. You guys are great. Keep it up
Why is no one talking about “ faberge burrito is a great name for a band” ? That shit was comedy GOLD
12:40 "I feel like if you're gonna be a tough guy in a metal song, you probably shouldn't use the word pizza"
I wonder if Danny's ever listened to Andrew WK.
Though Strange Magic is a heavily cover-song themed movie, I LOVE IT. The character designs, landscaping, animation; it was all so satisfying to watch! I always put it on as a movie when I'm drawing or want inspiration for creatures!
“pretty strong wrists for a fairy”
michael scott: *sweating*
I actually love Strange Magic! Im normally not a fan of musicals but this movie is one of my favorites, and I watch it all the time. I wasn't sure about it in the very beginning but it grew on me quickly. Now its like a comfort movie for me. Lol. Griselda is one of my favorite characters.
That description was a work of art
Brooo this brought back so many memories! I played with these toys all the time and I read a book set in this world as a kid. If I remember right, the fairies rode horses because their wings didn't work very well, and there was a thing about dragons being around in the past as well. I remember really liking the book and its world; part of why I've become such a fantasy nerd today
My heart dropped when they mentioned strange magic that is one of my favourite movies how dare you but hey I didn’t know that about it
"terrible fairy movie heheheh"
-says Strange Magic-
...... HOW DARE. That's one of my favorite movies.
Given I loe terrible movies 90% of the time but STILL.
It’s a really bad movie, but to each their own
*"I love lamp"*
How does that still get me?
I have no idea what this is but it definitely looks like something I would have played as a kid.
Posting a pre-emptive comment to say that the title made me immediately think of CallMeKevin, playing that ONE sound bite from Harry Potter with Ron just shouting "BEANS". I'm ruined 🤣🤣
I saw strange magic and I honestly can't pinpoint an exact moment from my memories that I'm 100% sure happened in the movie
Bayala is a toy line made by Schleich. There are multiple books and toys. Over the years the quality of the figurines got worse but they're still pretty nice
Tfw the opening sequence when they were making puns make me wish the game was as beautiful as that
The prologue of this game reminded me of the beginning of Spyro 3, actually it's almost exactly the same.
Dan's improv has gotten WAY better the past year or so.
Hearing strange magic gave me whiplash and transported me to a time I forgot
When Dan said “Hello Surah” my Elder Scroll was opened
this is by far one of the funniest grumps episodes in a while, i love you guys so much
Dan missed an amazing opportunity to call Eyela "ewela"
God bless! I saw strange magic once on tv and was crying laughing at how this guy sounded and ive never known what I watched but ive finally found it
That is the single best description I've ever seen.
The "fur teacup" is a very famous work of art by Meret Oppenheim called "Le Dejeuner en Fourrure." It's one of the most notable surrealist sculptures in modern art.
I mean, ladies can flick so many beans 😏
Please keep playing this, it is such great content.
When he started reading line of character about mushrooms, thought he was continuing with the song for a second. Ha ha.
this game brought up some incredibly suppressed and only quasi-tangible memories of colorful fairy toys in my childhood bedroom. thanks? i think???
1:57
I’m learning each and every day to never watch Game Grumps while I’m eating/drinking
I’ve learned not to watch while doing homework because I couldn’t hold the pencil steadily
NOO Strange Magic was awesome! Its supposed to be cheesy! The animation is BEAUTIFUL and Alan Cumming as the Bog King just steals the show! Give it a chance!
Narrator: As Ophira became more and more powerful, the magic of Bayala began to fade away.
Dan: *NO!!!!!!!!!!!*
I can't believe I watched 35 minutes of this. My life is spiraling out of control.
...no...no it's charming HELP!! It's pulling me in with it's goddamn charm!!!
The design of those trees in the first pre-rendered cutscene (23:48) is really neat, I'll the creators that.
My nana showed my brothers and I Fantastic Planet when we were little kids and the images have never left my mind.
Strange Magic is a very guilty pleasure movie of mine. You either like it or you completely forget about it in like 20 minutes.
elves that are really fairies but you can't fly, beans that are quest items but also currency, names being mentioned in dialogue but not in the dialogue text boxes. man, Bayala the game has it all!
Arin: it's called Strange Magic
Me: AHHHH😄😭💜my fave
Arin: apparently it sucked
Me: 😡
I just wanna say, though it's incredibly cheesy, strange magic is very entertaining. It's like bad that it curves around to being great.
The Fur Teacup thing is actually a reference to a piece of surrealist artwork by Méret Oppenheim called _Object (Le Déjeuner en fourrure)_, or in English, _Fur Breakfast_. It's from 1936 if you can believe it, and is a teacup, saucer and spoon all completely covered in fur.
To those who haven't googled Bayala yet, it's a film apparently thereby requiring the descriptor "the game"
Dan: 52%
Arin, American: that’s still an F
Me, Scottish: that’s... a C..?
Yeah, not here, that's an F in America. 70% is a C.
Kegmonkey that’s proper mad to me. Depending on the class/how many people passed it can change a bit (so if a ton of people do really well the grades might get changed to 80%-A 70%-B, but above 50% is almost always a pass, a D at absolute worst. Which is the way it should be imo - if you’ve done more correct than you have wrong surely that means you should pass??
OK but strange magic is low key great, some iconic songs and pretty imagery
Everytime they reference Spongebob, I always dream they'll play Battle for Bikini Bottom again.
Bayala is a fantasy franchise of the german toy manufacturer Schleich. :'D They published a bayala movie recently and....yeah
I'm embarrassed by how long it took before I was like "oh yeah the talking/moving rock is totally a dragon egg." And now if it turns out it is not a dragon egg I will crap my pants.
Bayala is a fantasy collection made by Schleich, they're toys (or collectibles, it depends on the person)
"AAGH! IT BURNS!"
"THE BeAnS"
The rant in the first minute of this video gave merit to my like.
Dan's Michael Scott-esque "NOOOO" fucking got me 🤣
Feed my Frankenstein is my jam. It was my introduction to Alice Cooper lol.
they used to show these weird clips of fantastic planet at cinemas before trailers really became a bigger deal, really scared me as a kid
I completely understand that this was posted 4 years ago, but I need Arin to understand that strange magic is fantastic, like genuine art, I'm gonna go watch strange magic again actually...
Okay the trailer for BAYALA: A MAGICAL ADVENTURE Trailer (2019) is actually cute.
It took them the whole episode to find out what Bayala is
I knew it at first that this was based on an obscure french animated movie.
Oh man, that's the first time I've seen anyone reference Fantastic Planet. It really is a cool, weird cerebral animated movie. There's also a really great Boards of Canada fan-made music video with bits of the film's animations set to BoC's Julie And Candy that I really love. If you're interested in what Dan was talking about but don't wanna sit through the whole movie, that fan video is really cool and goes great with BoC's music.
Arub out here like, "Ohhh,, I love animation" but he hasn't seen fantastic planet AND he was so clueless in that round of Jeopardy about animated movies... tsk tsk, Rain.
I nearly passed out laughing so hard at Dan's scream of anguish over the magic of Bayala disappearing like my face is stained with tears
The audience rating is always more favorable than the critics’ consensus. The critics are bitter bc they can never just enjoy a movie. They always gotta over-analyze shit once Rotten Tomatoes gives them power
This game literally yoinked the entire plot to the Inheritance series
Thanks Ben!
Also, are you okay? We here for you, man! Like Eyedea said!
My sister and I actually love Strange Magic. The music is pretty good and it's memorable. It's a bit low quality and has a few kinks but I think it's generally a decent movie
Bayala the Flamethrower!
*The kids love that one*
I know dan wasn't feeling this game but genuinely arin seemed to enjoy to play this. He wasn't actively "can we NOT" any time the game wanted u to play the game and actually backtracked from progressing in the game when Dan begged for them not to play. Arin don't be ashamed of enjoying colorful relaxing barely gameplay games!
Strange Magic was actually really good! Saw it in theaters, and it wasn't flawless but some moments were really well done and just a good soundtrack!
I was eating lunch while Dan was reading the “Feed my Frankenstein” lyrics and I ALMOST threw up
OKAY BUT IS FUR TEACUP A REFERENCE TO MERET OPPENHEIMS LE DEJEUNER EN FOURRURE
bc legit the idea alice cooper has put weirdass surrealist art in his music fills me with joy
@4:32
I absolutely lost my shit at "fabergé burrito." Started wheeze laughing; couldn't stop for about a full minute. I'm not sure what it is about it; the thought of it just really got me.
"fabergé egg" is the funniest sounding thing ^u^
Dan: You have very strong wrists for a fairy.
Pause of silence.
Me: Nearly chokes on the hot chocolate I’m drinking.
Dan: Don’t take that out context.
The cinematics are honestly pretty nice quality at least.
I love Strange Magic, I never would have imagined so many people thought it was terrible :'(
lmao bayala is the fantasy line of schleich toys, which are little animal figurines
Love it when Dan quotes Space Balls
After the Backstreet Boys Reunion Tour is over, we’re all going to have at least 8 days of Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, and Ramadan. Each of them. We deserve it. We need it.
Aw major nostalgia bomb this game is. Makes me remember building my first Bayalacle.
"bayala the toilet paper"
wow how prescient
I didn't actually remember seeing Strange Magic until I looked up a picture, but I remember liking it when I saw it! My mom always records the strangest things on tv so I have a kind of spotty collection of movies I've watched. ._.
From what I understand this came out years before frozen.
