Robin Trower ... meh, he's ok I guess. You wanna hear some REAL blues guitar, try Roy Buchanan. His song Pete's Blue should set your hair on fire. By the way, why is Alex wearing two curtains? One curtain isn't good enough for him all of a sudden?
The whole album, Bridge of Sighs, is probably the greatest album nobody has heard. From beginning to end it is pure perfection. For Earth Below, the follow up album to Bridge of Sighs, is also killer.
This is one of a handful of albums that I never hear the start of a song and think, maybe I will skip this one. Every song has to be listened to in it's entirety. I just had phase where I was listenting to this and nothing else for about a week.
Imagine growing up listening and seeing Robin Trower, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Stones, ZZ Top and so on like us old guys did. Was the greatest music ever. No effect just plain rock. This album opened up the blues and that's a whole other story... The best time for music ever!!!!
For me, I have to add Jethro Tull to this list. I saw Trower, Zepplin, Uriah Heep, Richie Blackmore (Rainbow), The Stones and ZZ Top. Was an extrodinary time in music.
@@thancrow There isn't a bad song on the album. Still, I absolutely agree the title track should be next, since I think it sets the tone for all the songs that follow.
"Bridge of Sighs" is one of the few LP's I can listen to start to finish since I was 17 (when it came out). 65 now, still holds up. Saw Trower in concert at a small venue in 2010, James Dewar (RIP) (Scotland Forever!) did the vocals. Unforgettable. Keep up the Good Work Gentlemen.
I first saw Robin in 1974 in Milwaukee Wi when I was 17 yrs old.Have seen him 5 times since. There seems to be a bit of resurgence in him among a younger crowd and among young African Americans as I have seen on UA-cam This heavy blues guitar goes right to your heart and grabs your soul and add James Dewars amazing vocals and bass and one of the first great and unknown black drummers Reggie Isadore.
Them scots can sing and play (write, act, et al). 😎 James Dewar just brings it perfectly with Robin Trower, they both are a tower of power (subdued as it is). Trower Power! ❤
James Dewar is one of the most underrated and unknown vocalist ever. I saw them live in 1976. great concert! Thought you might give it a little bit higher rating but fair enough. Lot's more to listen to from Robin! Enjoy the ride!
Don't ever expect a higher ranking, they really don't like blues/rock and always, ALWAYS give it a piss poor rating. I don't know why they bother to cover any of it.

ROBIN TROWER LIVE...is the shit. The drummer on that tour brings a hard dirty pocket. Much more funk inflected. It’s an insane album through and through.
I had the privilege of seeing him 3 times, all small venues, and totally KICKED ASS. One of my personal favorite albums of his was 20th Century Blues, every song a banger! Do yourselves a favor and check it out.
Alex! Diggin the outfit! And I wish I could remember just how many times I bought this album after wearing them out on the turntable from listening to it so often!
Jimmy Dewar, a Scottish vocal powerhouse, was the lead singer on this, and his voice was PERFECT for blues rock. I had the CD, "Bridge of Sighs", which was how I discovered both Robin Trower and Jimmy Dewar. Another great pairing of talent. LOVED your stank faces during the guitar solo.
Thanks guys, I knew you would love TRS. If you are wanting a live number of his, I highly suggest " Daydream " from his RT Live album. It is my favorite guitar work of his. Be warned, " Daydream " is not a banger, but rather a masterful tasteful guitar blues piece.
I knew if I followed your channel long enough you'd find one I never heard of. HOW did I manage to live five decades without bumping into this song? OH MY GOSH! "That right there, it's a banger!"
When Alex said „really cool!“ at the slowdown, i went like „wait for it - the sauce is yet to come“ 😁 I covered this song with my band and i can confirm: yes, its a lot of fun to play it live.
Fame is sometimes a relative term. In the 1970s Robin Trower was huge. Bridge of Sighs sold a gazillion copies. Tons of guitar-god fanboys (and girls) worshiped Trower. Also had a small core of prog rock fans leftover from his days as lead guitarist for Procol Harum.
React tp "Bridge of Sighs" and "In This Place" back-to-back. They flow together so well and belong together in my opinion. The wind will carry you through to the other side.
I'm in my mid 40s. Never heard of this band or song. Wow. This was some great music! Psyched to find something new. Thanks for reviewing this tune A&A !
There are several videos of him playing this live. It’s fun watching him play - you’ll love his “wah” face and how he feels every note he plays. He also plays this song somewhat differently n each one. Love your channel, and I’m glad you got around to this killer song. Another great live one to check out is the live version of Bridge of Sighs (the title track of this album) from a 1975 British TV show.
I love his shows. Seen Trower in concert 10+ times and never miss a show when in town. I believe he has an amp jack in his hip bone and some of the incredible sounds he makes are screams of pain when in a blues riff. One of the incredibles!
The coolest thing about watching Robin Trower play is that he moves is mouth with his guitar playing. Like watching someone play air guitar while making the guitar sounds.
Guys, Trower is STILL touring! You should do yourselves a favor and GO see this legend play! I don't know where you live, but he's going to be in St. Louis, Mo. in Sept. He was supposed to be here last year but you know what happened. This may very well be the last chance to see him. I have seen him and he is freaking amazing to watch. He's got the best guitar face I've ever seen!
One night before Robin Trower played a huge Chicago arena, we got word through a restaurant friend that the band was going to do a show in a room that couldn’t have held 100 people in his restaurant. In Elgin, IL, about 40 miles from Chicago. The band had to walk through the crowd to get to their “stage” in the corner of an unused dining room. When my buddies told me about the awesome show in Chicago a few days later, I told them all about the Elgin show. And yes, it was great.
I mean....it really brings up the subject of super-star guitarists who may have never actually played with a superstar band - unlike Clapton, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Jimmy Page, etc. - Robin Trower, Jeff Beck, etc. are heavy-weights with unassailably top-tier chops who must be considered among the greatest.
Alex sitting there in his bipolar she-pajamas, bobbing his head with his lost-in-the-sauce nasty stank face...it's your world, man, we're just living in it! Love you guys! Keep it up!
The thing about seeing Robin live back in the 70's was the stacks of speakers. I mean walls of speakers. The depth of sound was incredible seeing, hearing him live back then. Those effects you hear off the recording had a real 3D feeling to them that just cannot be replicated on tape or a record. Good to see you listening to these older bands, hope you get to see some of them live.
Trower's band was, commonly, a trio (although, at times, there would be a keyboard player and, live, there might be extra musicians, also). Robin Trower - Guitars Reg Isidore - Drums & percussion James Dewar - Bass and Lead Vocals ...as the '80s broke, Robin recorded 2 albums with his good friend, Jack Bruce [bassist and Lead Vocalist of: Cream]: B.L.T. [Standing for: Bruce, Lordan & Trower (Bill Lordan being the drummer -who had replaced Isidore, a while back, by this point.)] and Truce. Both were satisfying (if, a mite on the "short-winded" side.) After those 2 projects, Robin did bring James Dewar back "into the fold," briefly, but ...I think James moved on and left Trower looking for another vocalist (maybe I am recalling things wrongly. Pardon if I am, please. 🤷♂️🤦♂️). This led to Davey Pattison taking on vocal duties. Some, in fact, preferred Pattison to Dewar, but most "older-school"fans (such as myself), missed Dewar's blues-grit and soul (and, perhaps, most-of-all: his great bass playing! - Pattison was, solely, a vocalist. I forget who Trower took on as bassist, at this point (I didn't follow his career into the late '80s and '90s). Sadly, Dewar and Trower never reunited (Their final album together was the, excellent: Back It Up!) as Dewar passed away in 2002 from a longstanding medical condition (which made him subject to strokes) 😵😭😭. ...Soon after that (either, in 2004 or 2008 - again: I am uncertain, offhand, which), Trower took on the vocal duties himself, for the first time and, actually, does an excellent job! I recommend the following selections: "Into Money" "Settling The Score" "Time Is Short" "Ready For The Taking" "It's Too Late" "Back It Up" "I'm Out To Get You" [a blues-funk] and, his classic: "Bridge Of Sighs"
Alex looks like Ralphie from a Christmas story wearing the bunny suit, I bet his memaw made it for him..I think I would need more than one Whisky for that jumpsuit....Alex you're a brave dude ❤🙂🙃
The lead vocalist and bassist was James Dewar. He died in 2002 as did the drummer Reg Isidore in 2009. Robin is thankfully still with us. But you seem to be under the mistaken impression that he was unrecognized at the time. He absolutely was recognized and a major influence on the guitarsts and musicians of the day. In the 1970's Trower was a huge rock star. Almost every song on this album and many on the previous, Twice Removed From Yesterday, were in regular rotation on the biggest rock stations in the biggest markets in the country for quite a few years. He toured relentlessly, playing in stadiums and big festivals all over the world. He got his break as the original guitarist in the legendary band Procol Harum back in the late 60's. The greatest live recording of that lineup is from a popular live broadcast of that era called The King Biscuit Flower Hour. You can find it on UA-cam. Later live recordings are hit and miss but that one is the shit. They were on fire. I should know. I saw them at Long Beach Arena in 1977 where they played all the songs on this album and Twice Removed. The sound he got out of his Strat and stack of Marshall cabs transfixed the audience. James Dewar's ultra masculine voice and drummer Reg Isidore's solid Buddy Miles like heavy groove locked it in like A Band of Gypsys.
Little Bit Of Sympathy, Caledonia, The Fool And Me, Lady Love, Alethea, Daydream, Twice Removed From Yesterday, Bridge Of Sighs. A lot of Robin Trower to dig in to and most deep cuts. You've got his biggest two out of the way.
How is Robin NOT recognized as one of the TOP 5 guitarists ????? Clarity , tone , and nastiness ... BTW he's still crushing it . Saw him a couple years ago . Still hammering it .
Always drove me nuts when people compared him to Hendrix. A little similarity in the tone, but he has a completely unique guitar voice. It's instantly recognizable, which, in the huge universe of guitar players, is pretty hard to do. Check out his more recent live performances of Bridge of Sighs. He looks like the mummy of Tutankhamun with a Strat around his neck, and his guitar maturity and virtuosity has grown along with all those years. Best guitar face ever.

Thanks guys, I knew you would love TRS. If you are wanting a live number of his, I highly suggest " Daydream " from his RT Live album. It is my favorite guitar work of his. Be warned, " Daydream " is not a banger, but rather a masterful tasteful guitar blues piece.
Its BEAUTIFUL
That's the live track I'd suggest too.
@@taradevine6026 Exactly what I was going to say until I read your reply! Cheers!
Daydream is what you listen to when you are cooling off by the river in the middle of summer. And you hit repeat.
I knew if I followed your channel long enough you'd find one I never heard of. HOW did I manage to live five decades without bumping into this song? OH MY GOSH! "That right there, it's a banger!"
When Alex said „really cool!“ at the slowdown, i went like „wait for it - the sauce is yet to come“ 😁
I covered this song with my band and i can confirm: yes, its a lot of fun to play it live.
That, gentlemen, is what it is all about!!
Robin Trower would be in the hall of fame for best guitar faces alone. Plus he has incredible chops.
React tp "Bridge of Sighs" and "In This Place" back-to-back. They flow together so well and belong together in my opinion. The wind will carry you through to the other side.
One of my all-time favorite albums. Lots of hours spent in the dorm room listening to this "back in the day"
I'm in my mid 40s. Never heard of this band or song. Wow. This was some great music! Psyched to find something new. Thanks for reviewing this tune A&A !
Wait till you hear Bridge of Sighs title track.

Absolutely killer, every time I hear it. He’s touring the USA this fall too!
Now that’s a banger!
You're wearing a romper, Alex? Hmmmm. Okay. I'll shuddup. lol ♥ Good tune today ~
Yummy...
@@GaryColemanNC HAHAHA!! Indeed. Alex is yummy in his romper. LOL
ooooh! Love your short-shorts, Alex...Love Robin Trower too!
Did Alex lose a bet?
@TM Songvids Hahahaha! 😆
I think the Ringling Bros clown college is in Florida... maybe he got a scholarship! ;)
If not, he should lie and say he did lol
Maybe his girlfriend is dressing him!
Half his mom's pj's, half his dad's? I'm just glad he has enough balls to wear it, and not even address it! 👍😁
Not a criticism but Trower played in Procol Harum prior to this.
@@iancarr8682 Jeff Beck Played in the Yardbirds.
now we're talkin fellas. trower is badass ! still out there waiting to tour. Bridge of Sighs, Day of the Eagle, daydream...
Alex sitting there in his bipolar she-pajamas, bobbing his head with his lost-in-the-sauce nasty stank face...it's your world, man, we're just living in it! Love you guys! Keep it up!
Lmao
Bi polar she pajamas??
Ok, I'm stealing that line!!
Maybe someone told him he was going to the Grammys
Well said
The thing about seeing Robin live back in the 70's was the stacks of speakers.
I mean walls of speakers. The depth of sound was incredible seeing, hearing him live back then.
Those effects you hear off the recording had a real 3D feeling to them that just cannot
be replicated on tape or a record.
Good to see you listening to these older bands, hope you get to see some of them live.
Bridge of Sighs!!!!
Robin Trower never out of his comfort level with a guitar
So Alex you couldn’t decide which outfit to wear so you took both and made one, problem solved ! brilliant!
I’d like to see Andy pull off that look!.....on second thought....😂
Andy needs the same outfit, but with the stripes on the right side.
I'm guessing he lost a bet.
Trower's band was, commonly, a trio (although, at times, there would be a keyboard player and, live, there might be extra musicians, also).
Robin Trower - Guitars
Reg Isidore - Drums & percussion
James Dewar - Bass and Lead Vocals
...as the '80s broke, Robin recorded 2 albums with his good friend, Jack Bruce [bassist and Lead Vocalist of: Cream]: B.L.T. [Standing for: Bruce, Lordan & Trower (Bill Lordan being the drummer -who had replaced Isidore, a while back, by this point.)] and Truce.
Both were satisfying (if, a mite on the "short-winded" side.)
After those 2 projects, Robin did bring James Dewar back "into the fold," briefly, but ...I think James moved on and left Trower looking for another vocalist (maybe I am recalling things wrongly.
I recommend the following selections:
"Into Money"
"Settling The Score"
"Time Is Short"
"Ready For The Taking"
"It's Too Late"
"Back It Up"
"I'm Out To Get You" [a blues-funk]
and, his classic:
"Bridge Of Sighs"
Alex looks like Ralphie from a Christmas story wearing the bunny suit, I bet his memaw made it for him..I think I would need more than one Whisky for that jumpsuit....Alex you're a brave dude ❤🙂🙃
It's a shame she can't see too well anymore -- grabbed the wrong bolt in the middle of her work..... ;-)

Caledonia Ohhh Caledonia…
Procol Harum alum
How about ""About to Begin'' which I used as the opening to a screenplay I wrote...Also ""I Can't Wait Much Longer""
Saw him live in Philly about 20 ft away left with a smile and ringing ears! Loved it!
How is Robin NOT recognized as one of the TOP 5 guitarists ????? Clarity , tone , and nastiness ... BTW he's still crushing it . Saw him a couple years ago . Still hammering it .
This whole album is amazing.
Love me some Trower..saw him 4 times.in the 70's..definitely get lost in the sauce on this one
