I genuinely loved all of the tofu 2.0 builds that came out recently, and only found out afterwards that (surprisingly) a lot of people didnt like how it sounded. I don't understand what people were expecting/looking more for with a tofu 2.0. It's a huge upgrade from the honestly outdated original tofu, in both feel (assuming since I dont have a 2.0) and sound (in my opinion). Like you said too, even if the sound is not to your preference, you can't not say that its simply a "different" sound, and not necessarily a worse or thinner sound. Great review as always, glad you never give into the majority opinion and stay true to your own feelings/thoughts on products. Gives me confidence in believing what you say when watching your reviews of products.
E yellow tofu²
With the new bezels it would look a lot like a korn
you are the first keyboard youtuber that i watched that practically made me went down the rabbit hole like 3 months ago. now i am designing my custom case
Damn that’s such an honor! What layout are you designing ?
@@AndyVNguyen a 60% layout because my old keyboard case sucks, even after everything, it couldn't make the sounds that i wanted.
Thanks for the review. That bowl mount does look interesting despite the weird install method. I hope KBDfans would bring that mounting option to their other boards in the future. Never hurts to have boards with more mounting options built in like this.
I missed out on this because I bought the Tofu Jr that was released before 2.0's preorder was up. :(
what's the difference between the jr and this?
@@pate00711 From what I can tell, Tofu Jr have a different bottom weight with multiple finishes to choose from & the board don't have bowl mount as an option.
It's like the Tofu Jr was Tofu 1.5 I think. They discontinued it though
@@AndyVNguyen Crap. I didn't know that it was discontinued. I was hoping to pick up a FR4 plate...
Thanks for the update. Now I can stop checked their site hoping for a restock.
Because of you, I've spent too much on keyboards and I can't figure if that's a good thing or a bad thing
If you’re happy it’s a good thing
Considering that this board really seems to be prioritizing flexibility over sound profile, I'm very tempted to pick one up and install some silent switches in it. Seems like a great way to get a good office board without breaking the bank.
and you get a brass weight so it doesn't feel cheap
Reading this comment mindblown because i just ordered this keyboard to put gat silent black ink v2s - going to lube and film them as well as try out o rings for the first time for a stealth office board
Saw you in the comments talking about enjoying the feel and not the sound. I want to make this my office board (quiet). Do you have suggestions on making this board even quieter without using silent/semi silent switches? I haven’t used any yet but a common complaint is that they feel mushy, which at that point I’d just use a membrane keyboard. Thanks! Great video.
So I bought this keyboard in stock. The main concern for me is a little bit of ping left with softer plates in any mounting configuration. Really annoying. Force-break mod doesn't help, it seems like it even makes it worse. If this is important, I think it's worth using an aluminium plate or both plate and case foam provided.
Thanks for sharing! What plate material did you use exactly
@@AndyVNguyen I used CF plate in my build. Quick note, It turns out that putting some electrical tape under the brass weight around the screw holes also reduces the overall ping. I can hear a significant difference just by tapping my finger on the bottom of the keyboard.
What is the keyboard case shown on your desk around 2:46 when building out the Tofu? It is so sleek
kohaku
They missed a trick not calling this the Twofu.
So funny to see Pyga on this now. Good luck getting that set for a reasonable price right now.
Genuinely genuine you…
No biased expensive rare Keeb is always top shit!
You are a top tier mate!
Thank you ricky !
Does the 2.0 come with a plate or do I have to buy one separately?
Memes aside, I would have 100% copped one of these if they made an e-yellow. I want that colorway with black keycaps so badly.
Ducky makes a hello board 👀 I would look at reviews before going for it tho
I think yellow would look weird for me, because I don’t know if there’s any keycaps that would match it
Basically just black keycaps or some yellow ones lol. Like gmk Greg, lux, serika
@@AndyVNguyen black and yellow keycaps would look nice, like black regular color and then yellow gold letters, with yellow board, I can picture that looking really clean
Hmm, I think people started saying it is thin after Alex's stream where he felt it sounded a little thin. There were people in his chat who disagreed though. But I am still waiting for my Tofu60 2.0 to try it for myself. Everyone likes different things I guess. (:
I think so too. Honestly it sounds as "thin" as my Gateron Pink Kohaku build. People disagreed with me when I didnt like that as well. But people already think Kohaku is "endgame" so they view that as good whereas Tofu is accessible so they view that as bad lol
@@AndyVNguyen I just got my Tofu60 2.0 and I really like how it sounds with 70G silicon bowls, carbon fibre plate and Raeds (V1.5). Not thin for me! (: Thank you for the recommendation, because I lost the Kohaku raffle, and the spacebar of the Tofu60 2.0 is premium copium. xD
@@annoto997 is tofu good for gaming like league like can it be low latency
Why, no wirelress and no Bluetooth? what a shame.....
its only right that you cover this board, after all
ironically I don't even eat tofu irl that much. my wife loves soondubu tho
that red color looks too good, Is it e-coating or anodized? Because I'm planning on buy one!
E coat!
Hey man, what kind of tape did you use over the flex cuts?
masking tape will work but i use tamiya tape before but it sometimes BARELY makes it. i'd go strips of masking
tamiya tape: amzn.to/3DI2nkX
Does factor75 have a mapo tofu option
Does the hhkb layout support a 6.25u spacebar or only a 7u?
How long does the group buy take ? It doesn’t say on the page
Hey, what tape did you use for the flex cuts?
amzn.to/3DI2nkX
Tofu65 2.0 or Qk65 is better to buy? Please advice
Qk65 better
nice review! do you have both 60 and 65? (tofu 2.0)
Just the 60
I hope they at least rounded the edges a little bit. That thing still looks intimidating
We got tofu 2.0 and we got tofu jr that is available on divinikeys. Do you have any idea what the difference between tofu 2.0 65% and tofu jr?
tofu jr has pvd weight but no bowl mount or brass
I'm thinking about building my first keyboard but, I'm not sure if I shuld get the tofu 2.0 or the zoom 65?
which one should I get?
tofu has a real brass weight and zoom has a 'fake' weight that's just alu. i'd pick tofu. but some people say it's quieter.
What is the best plate for this keyboard or your opinion on best style of plate in general?
I liked FR4
@@AndyVNguyen does it have more thock than PC? Im trying to upgrade from a NK65 and this seems to be the way to go. Or do you have another rec?
Fr4 is stiffer than PC so if you want a deeper sound that's the way I'd go
@@AndyVNguyen sick man thank you.
Great successor to the original Tofu. I also wish this was available back when I first got a Tofu in 2020
Would you recommend an alu or fr4 plate for the bowl mounts 🤔 especially with 'creamy' switches
Depends on the switch. Some sound too quiet on fr4
@@AndyVNguyen thanks man. Also, did you have to force break mod the tofu? If so, what did you use :) cuz I don't think it comes with any force break pads
Nah I didn’t have to
after hearing '40,000' units sold. My first reaction was, that's it? but than I remember how "small" the custom keyboard hobby really is. Doesnt' really feel that way when you are in it.
definitely agree with you there. like when the satisfaction75 r2 was gunning for 1000+ units, that was unheard of. so 40,000 units over a couple of years of is still pretty wild for custom keyboards.
@AndyVNguyen my first custom (in 2022) was the tofu60 acrylic. I heard that it was already pretty outdated even at the time, but I'm glad I started there!
I got to experience a custom from back when customs were a fairly new thing, without all the foams and gasket variations. :)
Great video! Will probably wait til divinikey picks some up.👍
Can anyone elaborate what does taping the flex cuts mean? Is it like doing tape mod with single layer on the bottom of the PCB, but difference is that only flex cuts are taped and not whole board? Thx
Tape mod.. but only over where the flex cuts are . So just strips
as someone that you have a tofu v1 and you use it for so long , is this an upgrade?
yes it's an upgrade
hi what do you think about the tofu se ?? is it worth getting it?
it looks super cool. if you have the money and like this sound, why not? but i don't have the proto to hear the sound. the tofu 2.0 doesn't have the best spacebar around so that's what i'd hope to see cleaned up in the se.
What type of switches does it has?
hi andy do you prefer the gateron oil king or the gateron ink in therm of sound and feel thanks for the suport 🤝🤝
oil king probably if i'ma do it in 2023
Can i use the tofu60 2.0 plate with a different case?
No
I'm so sad I missed the PBTfans Pyga GB. It looks so good on a red keyboard
my 2.0 came in today and I was excited asf then one of the screws on the bottom of the case came stripped and I can’t get it out because it’s in a deep hole so I can’t even build this keyboard. Just got these parts sitting in my room. And a single stripped fucking screw that’s unattainable ruined it for me
I have never received a new board that had stripped screws. If that is truly the case, contact them and they'll send you another case
@@AndyVNguyen I’m pretty sure I was just mad incorrectly blaming them but actually messed it up myself using a screw size one size above the right one. I’m buying a new case soon though.
Have you got your hands on the envoy 65?
No unfortunately
Pretty much the same price as the FreeBird60. How would you compare the 2?
fb60 is a tray mount. i like the feel of the tofu 2.0 more.
ihave thr fb60
its ass, im selling mine for 40usd 😂
e-coating or anodized is better?
I like e coat because it feels smoother to me. But some people like ano more
@@AndyVNguyen oh tks u. Are u vietnamese?
Would the Tofu 2.0 case work for modding the Wooting 60he?
99% i would grab a plate and use the tofu 2.0 plate with the woofing pcb. If I owned a Whooting I’d be all over that swap. Besides would be a fairly easy flip if for some odd reason it didn’t work.
No, won't work. The 60he has the USB port on the left side of the PCB, while the tofu 2.0 case has the USB port in the middle. Plus, looking at the mounting styles they do not match up. Sad that they discontinued the tofu 60 because case swaps for the 60he are almost impossible right now as they're all sold out. Hopefully wooting can release some aluminum cases in the future, or change the mounting style to fit modern cases
Really want to get one of these but I’m currently broke after building my first custom keyboard about a month ago🤣
Don't worry, it will be instock in the future for you to consider then!
@@AndyVNguyen Thanks, hopefully I can save some money and get it at some point. I’m thinking of pairing it with the Shiookk!! keycaps from the antidote studio. Do you have any experience or recommendations regarding the seller?
Coming back here to say that the Tofu 60 2.0 ended my keyboard buying addiction.
In short, it's endgame for me.
As much as i wanted to own a Unikorn, this is enough for me.
nice! happy for you
This case is Ecoat Red or Anodize Red?
ecoat
Does this already come assembled? Thanks everyone.
I‘m confused. How does the TofuJr play into all of this?
That's like Tofu 1.5 that they discontinued quickly
Just Great product positioning from kbdfans
Tofu JR was a quick run with the PVD weight instead of the sandblasted weight
Great vid man as always man!
Thank you so much!!
I wonder what was the point of the Tofu JR
does it come with 1Khz polling rate at stock?
Not really sure. It’s not really an issue for me
So thin sound is good or better now?
That's wild.
A lot of people went crazy for the gateron pink build on my kohaku. That was definitely thin. People are letting their bias for boards get in their way of their opinions lol.
@@AndyVNguyen
True.
This is a subjective hobby after all.
@@NeonLine1982 respectful reply! W commentor
I wish the tofu jr was getting more exposure I'm in love with mine.
I definitely asked about it but they told me they weren’t making any more so yea
Oh wow I'm surprised they aren't. Love the way mine sounds and feels. Havent seen many people making vids on them.
does this overtake the bakeneko60 in S tier?
Not for sound, but feel in hand I’d take this
banger vid thanks andy 🙏
I know i sound like a child but, i love the fact that "lube, stiff" and "make them louder" all are common things to talk about in this hobby
lmao fr tho
crazy that $159 is considered budget
for cnc aluminum and brass weight it definitely is. you might be able to get it a bit cheaper from aliexpress type stuff though.
do you know if it has an iso layout too?
there is definitely an iso layout
@@AndyVNguyen ahhh fuck I just checked, turns out there is for the 60 but not for the 65
This feels so full circle. Great review as always.
The title saying 159 instead I payed with all taxes 270€ pain
Dang is that because of customs
@@AndyVNguyen Yess it was 200 with 2 plates and at the end customs and shipping 80€, I could've bought some random keyboard with these customs money
Hi u recommand this keyboard ?
Yes
@@AndyVNguyen thanks 🙏 bro I just order one I should be get this week I hope is not to quiet I love high pitch sound !!!!
Any idea what the difference between the Tofu Jr and Tofu2 65 is? Was just surprised to see the 2.0 released immediately behind the Jr.
Always enjoy your Keyboard videos no fluff just quick and to the point each time. Much love
Seems like they discontinued the Jr according to their website. The differences I can see are that they changed the brass weight to and added the bowl mount to the 65.
cannot wait until you make an e-yellow version
he already has an e-yellow version
i don't have an e yellow tofu 2.0 tho. needs to be the latest
which plate was this
Alu for all the testing and fr4 for the jwk giant v3
@@AndyVNguyen o that's neat
I love the TOFU board. Such a good entry-level that competes with much more expensive boards.
How to make a step caps lock?
It’s hotswap so just put the switch in the stepped caps lock hole and use stepped cap keycap
Love the sponsor segue haha!
who needs two E-yellow tofus?
I need 3
honestly a solid sounding board but I think the Tiger 80 Lite has ruined other entry-level boards for me lol.
That spacebar is stupid good lol
To bad by the time you ad the plate at shipping its $225. So moves it a little passed budget. The only budget aluminum 60% is the keebsforall freebird60.
that's literally a tofu, a really old design in that it is a tray mount
HelloFresh adspot but no tofu dish, scammaz
SORRY SENPAI NEXT TIME
but what about vs qk60?
Tofu 2.0 is probably easier to buy at any given time. But QK60 is cool too!
awesome vid andy!
Thank you Rich!!
Bro the keyboard may be really good. It might be a replacement to other things on the market.
But there is no substitute to cooking at home. Even if it means going to the supermarket everyday :p
This is so cool. Hope they will become in stock soon.
The USB port is in the wrong place...
What’s the right place?
e yellow tofu when
I NEEED IT
Kbdfans goated tbh
Hamsters endgame?
They’re decent switches just not as poppy of a sound as I’d want out of long pole
I bought it and it sounds like it’s on air and it flexes a lot :(
Top mount it to minimize those things
@@AndyVNguyen ok thanks
Bowl mount is def type feel first and sound second
@@AndyVNguyentried them all they suck and it just broke, waste of 300 dollars. I regret giving my money to them
@@AndyVNguyenupdate: keyboard broke. The dongle was way too small and it was literally an inch long so it broke when I was flipping it upside down. I hate my life
one like on this comment = one signature for e yellow tofu 2.0
Okay. Now shut up and eat your tofu!
🤣🤣🤣
Btw, I've been considering the Tofu as a secondary keyboard next to my Odin R3 for some time now. This second version looks promising.
Mfs who live in low class of society (like me😢😔): damn its to make out cheaper crap version.
genuinely looks like a great board. unlike the tofu v2 which was dogwater.
Wait what’s the tofu v2
@@AndyVNguyen top mount
@@AndyVNguyen top mount keyboard kbdfans came out with in 2020. got shadowdropped. lots of qc issues. keyboards getting fried due to bad daughterboards, not replacing damaged pcbs. also high key the colors were ugly as hell and not what you paid for. terrible assembly experience.

Sounds too thin and light.

hot hot fiyah
Cheap?? Hmm

💋👈
$159 is a budget keyboard? Wow!
Where I am from we get mechanical keyboards for as low as $20. And those are referred to as budget keyboard. Anything about $100 is like a flagship premium shit.
For customs, $100-200 for a case, plate & PCB (and stabs, sometimes) is considered budget. It's by no means cheap but considering the manufacturing quality, mounting style(s) and sound, the price is a lot more justifiable.
"Budget" is a bit subjective. Id say a more suitable word would be "entry-level". Custom mechanical keyboards are now more accessible than ever and spending 150$-200$ might be considered overpriced for some people. But in this hobby? Having a premium quality boards at that price would actually be considered reasonable!
Entry level is probably a better word but it doesn't work as well in the algorithm lol. $20 keyboards just don't really exist here in US. If a brand makes like 100,000 units of an injection molded or plastic keyboard, possibly. But for custom keyboards, the quantity is much lower, so sub $200 is actually an amazing price point.
Is Veritasium your Dad?
no why
