I've loved whenever wherever since forever, how did I not know it was originally a Spanish song. I'm blown away the lyrics are great in English but in Spanish, they're even better.
I am learning Spanish. I am fascinated by the language. I would like to have some Spanish speaking friends so that I understand the Spanish language as well as the culture of Spain properly.
Have you listened to "La oreja de van Gogh"? A great band from Spain, their most popular song is "la playa (translates to the beach)", it's good and metaphorical. "Alex Ubago" is another good Spanish artist.
I don't speak Spanish but according to this translation, the meaning of these lyrics are definitely superior to the English version's. Appreciate that they aren't exactly the same meaning
I don't speak enough to offer my own translation or commentary on all of it, but for as far as I can translate it seems accurate to me. The problem is pretty much any song translated from its original language is going to have better meaning foreign language version, and I struggle to think of any exceptions. It's hard to find words with close enough meaning that will fit the flow and original.
I've been learning Spanish recently and the ways this language allows you to express yourself is so unbelievably beautiful. I always cry listening to this because English just doesn't have these expressions and thoughts, and this openness that comes from that.
I'm pretty sure everything sounds significantly better when sung in a different language because when you translate it directly it doesn't sound nearly as good.
It's very difficult to translate a song. I'm a translator myself. Translating a song requires a superb skill. You have to translate the song without sounding very literal but also sounding as poetic as the original. The translation in this video is super bad because they're literally direct translation and no creativity or poetry was put into it.
@@Miumiu0404 I agree. I always say that computer (any application) can't translate, only a human being can do it. It requires very good knowledge and sense of the language plus poetic skills. It happens because the right part of our brain is responsible for translation, not the left one. Abstract thinking is required and computer just CAN'T do this job. This is why this translation is super bad.
So true, if you mean things sound better in their original form! I adore Shakira's Spanish music. The translated is still good, but it loses something in translation. I'm also a huge fan of Rammstein who sing almost exclusively in German, and even as a huge fan I don't really enjoy their English stuff. Even though I'm English.
At 0:12 it says "make fun of distance" that's not correct. The verb "burlar" in that context means to "overcome". So for her, distance is not an obstacle that keeps them apart, because they can easily "overcome distance" to get to each other. I hope it makes sense, and I'm sorry if I made any mistake. I'm native Spanish speaker and I'm learning English.
@@pink7099 I did some research and "burlar" does really mean "make fun of" or "mock" and to me it makes perfect sense and it makes sense in the context of the song. "Burlar" also means "outwit" or "outsmart," not "overcome."
Well, I'm from Colombia and in this context it can't mean "to make fun of". She's saying that they can get passed through it, I chose overcome, but I think outsmart could work too.
I am learning spanish through duolingo because you can't find a spanish class anywhere in our country and they mostly focus on french and chinese. 8 months later I know some basic spanish and I cannot fully understand this lyrics but I will come back later to check what I learned.
I had 3 years of Spanish and 4 years of French. 6 years later dated a girl from Chile that spoke little english for about 6 months. She said that she "liked the way I spoke spanish..." which I took as a compliment until I heard the rest of her sentence, "...because you sound like a little boy". Which was true as my words were rudimentary but she meant it with a good heart and I took it that way but I don't speak much spanish anymore. However, I was traveling on a ski trip with my 12 year old son through Germany many years back & needed to use spanish to get directions in an airport late one night when only a few people were working. I had no German education and the employees at that time only spoke German so when I found a Spanish lady, I was able to get guidance. My boy was taking it all in and at the end said... "Wait a minute! Did you just get directions in Spanish to help us figure out where to go in GERMANY?" I said, of course, what's the problem? LOL
A lot of learning Spanish is easy, but you will have to work to learn to conjugate the verbs. When you get that done, it is well worth it though. Prepositions are also a little bit of a challenge, those are the usually short words that show relationships, with, at, by, etc. because you can't substitute one for one. Sometimes different cultures see such relationships differently. But you can pick that up Play just paying attention to which one's people use for which circumstances.
