  • Today was my first time filming in Da Nang, Vietnam. Da Nang is the salt life capital of Vietnam, and it's competing for salt life capital of the world.
The beaches here stretch for miles (kilometers or whatever) and they are gorgeous. The sand is clean and the water is the perfect temperature. Since arriving I've been getting the itch to purchase a 4x4 Jeep and throw a salt life sticker on the back of that bad boy.
I will spend a lot of time exploring the beaches and recording footage there, however today I wanted to show off a more local perspective - the quaint neighborhood of Sơn Trà.
Admittedly, I'm not super happy with the photos I took today, but I still want to share them. I am beginning to practice shooting from the hip - due to the attention I attract with my camera (and the fact that I'm a white boi in Vietnam) means that I need to try to be as discreet as possible while shooting.
With street photography, I aspire to capture authentic moments. I want candid shots, raw emotion and a genuine look into daily life wherever I am at. When people notice me from a mile away, they act differently and often the photos don't feel as pure.
Another advantage that will come from shooting from the hip is that it will not interrupt the POV footage as much as when I stop and bring the camera to my eye.
I like to think that the photography enhances the walking tour by guiding the viewer to what I am looking at, and perhaps it allows you to see details that you would have otherwise missed.
Shooting from the hip allows me to accomplish this without disrupting the footage, in addition to the added benefit of keeping me more discreet.
Anyways, shooting from the hip is really damn hard. You ever played Call of Duty? It takes time to develop this skill, and today was my first attempt at it.
Bear with me as I continue developing as a photographer and content creator. Remember, I never made a promise that I am a GOOD photographer, just that I aspire to become BETTER.
Also, 13 subscribers!?!? We are absolutely unstoppable. Shout out to all 13 of you. Sending love your way.
Photos shot on the Canon 80D with the Sigma 18-35mm lens. POV footage shot on a GoPro HERO12 Black.
