Thank you so much for these videos Joel! Everything your saying resonates with me so deeply. Your videos have given words to feelings that I've been experiencing for a really long time now.
Looking forward to that vid for non-admitted students but I think your advice on sharing/documenting knowledge is important. Nowadays it’s so easy for people to access information but if that doesn’t exist there is no way to be informed. I’ve personally struggled with the question of “Am I qualified to write/talk about this” but making a clarification that it may be anecdotal or whatever is all you need if your goal is to help people with the knowledge you feel benefitted you
Absolutely agree - your story is yours to tell and it’s sometimes refreshing to be able to take away lessons from a story without it being forced down your throat. There’s a lot of great novels and films out there that are specifically great because they don’t force a message or a “takeaway” on the reader/viewer. Go ahead and watch the alternate ending to The Martian and compare it to the original; that’s a great example of this in action!
Hi Joel, thanks for this video and thanks for your resources thus far. I wanted to ask you if, in your cohort of transfers, you had any people coming in from 4 year colleges as sophomores or juniors. I am a freshman at an accredited 4 year school (not CC) and the thing is I just wasn’t able to apply to Stanford as a high schooler because there were some familial setbacks my senior year. Still being at the top of my list, I wanted to see if I have a chance of being part of the standford undergrad program. Any advice, insight on that would be appreciated!
Hi, Can you make a video of what classes should a community college student should take to get into Standford please, and also what grade they look at in high school or college because I was not great at high school? Still, I am trying to do my best at college so just want to know what classes and what I do to make into Standford.
In HS I had a 2,8 GPA and took no high-level classes: now at my Community College, I had a 4.0 GPA. To set you apart from your peers, I recommend taking ANY Honors classes your CC offers. But don't worry if you struggled, especially during COVID restrictions, Write about it in the “would you like to explain” section about the bad grades and how you tried to overcome them.
Hey Joel, I am a transfer student that was offered a place on Stanford's waitlist for fall 2022. I know that the chances of being admitted off the waitlist are slim in general, but do you know if this somehow differs for waitlisted transfers? I noticed that the freshman student response date is May 2nd. Let's say they had an 80% yield. To fill the remaining spots, why not just offer the remaining number of spots to transfers? Why waitlist transfer applicants to begin with? Maybe I am missing something here, but it seems to me that the answer must be that transfers that are waitlisted are to fill transfer spots only, rather than freshman spots. Maybe this is wishful thinking or maybe I am missing something. Do you know anything about this or can you point me in any direction? I appreciate your time and thoughts.
@@arianadavarpanah3771 thank you Ariana!! I’m in the dark here. Hopefully that ends up being the case. I can’t imagine Stanford would waitlist a lot of transfers since they don’t tend to admit many.
My take is you shouldn't have to artificially select classes to form a theme -- having a strong sense of direction can either inform your class choice, or your class choice can inform your sense of direction, so it's a bit circular in a way. Take classes that interest you or are explainable and justifiable as contributors to your interests. Of course this has to be within reason; if you are applying to transfer and express interest in becoming a Chemical Engineer, and you talk at length about why you want to be one, it's difficult to justify that without any course material under your belt to inform that. Hope that makes sense, there aren't really binary right or wrong answers here, so take what you want to take and don't stretch yourself too thin!
Hey I really enjoyed what you said here. Especially about being a 'giver' not a taker. I am also someone who is just getting started on making content, and I have felt this resistence and doubt before putting something out there. This video has reminded me the importance of just putting something out there with the intention of being a giver. You seem like a genuine and wonderful person. Thanks for this video!!🤍
Thanks for your kind words! A little bit of good will can make a big difference. Keep up with your journey, I'll be in the trenches right there with ya!
Joel is the hero we never asked for, but who we really needed
A not-so silent guardian, a watchful protector

Did you end up getting in?
@@ludielizsilaya7207 Sorry. I don't know why I am barely seeing this notification now. No, I haven't gotten in. Were you waitlisted too?
