Dude! I have done nothing but comb year-end lists and dig into rabbitholes to track down music since November for my year-end summary and still, you reminded me of three albums from bands that I had most of their albums, but somehow missed the new releases -- Bongzilla, Black Doldrums and The Third Sound. Thanks mate! I saw A Place to Bury Strangers at the tiny Schuba's bar in Chicago in 2007 and loved 'em, but sort of took their albums for granted, so I"ll revisit the latest. I was at that Slift show at Levitation! Are you in TX? Completely new to me is Daevar. I saw Windhand a few times in their early days, so of course I love it. There is a new Electric Wizard live album out too. Here is my list, focusing on stuff that seems to be your wheelhouse. You probably know most of them, but maybe I can return the favor and turn you on to something. Fester's Lucky 13 1. Vitskär Süden - Vessel 2. The Other Sun - Daimon, Devil, Dawn 3. Brume - Marten 4. Cemetery Skyline - Nordic Gothic 5. Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja 6. Ufomammut - Hidden 7. SoftSun - Daylight in the Dark 8. Spirit Mother - Trails 9. Karkara - All Is Dust 10. Terry Gross - Big Improvement 11. Aluk Todolo - Lux 12. Dool - The Shape of Fluidity 13. Oneida - Expensive Air
Very cool list Nick. I just discovered your channel. I'm all for Electric Wizard worship so I'll have to check out Demon & Eleven Children. That Departure Chandelier will bore into your brain. Are you a fan of King Buffalo and, if so, did you hear their new single Balrog?
My list 10 Spectral Wound - Songs of Blood and Mire 9 Spectral Voice - Sparagmos 8 Merrimack - Of Grace and Gravity 7 Konigreichssaal - Psalmen'O'Delirium 6 Akhlys - House of the Black Geminus 5 Thy Catafalque - XII: A Gyönyörű Álmok Ezután Jönnek 4 Mitochondrion - Vitriseptome 3 Schammasch - The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean 2 Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God 1 Ingurgitating Oblivion - The Ontology of Nought
After listening to your opinions I know that you won't give a shit about my opinion, but it also irritates me to see that everyone places "Absolute Elsewhere" by Blood Incantation in the first place of the best albums of the year 2024. That album and " The Last Will and Testament" by Opeth do not seem like incredible albums to me (said this by a person like me who is not a musician). I'm surprised that "Invincible Shield" by Judas Priest isn't on your list, I would have also added "Mean Streets" by Riot V to the list of the best of the year, but to each their own taste.
