- Solomonster ( / solomonster ) reviews the 2018 WWE Royal Rumble from Philadelphia, which included two excellent Rumble matches with the right winners, an appearance by Ronda Rousey, an undercard that largely fell flat and one of the most cringeworthy guest spots ever on the pre-show panel.

Michael Cole said Jinder Mahal is entering his first rumble...
Jinder Mahal was #14 in 2012
Jinder Mahal was #27 in 2013
LMFAOOOO "Shitty the announcer"
Chthonian121 he "corrected" himself by saying it was his 2nd rumble too XD
Chthonian121 his first rumble as a steroid freak ;)
Adam Timmons was it that funny?
the 4th sentence was so real
Lol that’s funny, but Cole is actually not a bad announcer at all, he’s just overproduced. Cole’s commentating during the UK tournament is among he best WW commentary in a decade. The real shitty announcers are guys like Otunga and Matthews.
I think people are downvoting this because they think this is an upload of the royal rumble match itself.
NeosGX 01 Which I never understand why people do that when it says review in the title. As well as they could sign up for a free Wwe network account.
yeah, because Jason's going to risk his channel for something that's easy to torrent or stream elsewhere
If they think the rumble was only a hour, they're fucking stupid.
What "luck" Roman has to keep getting such high entrant numbers each year.
Bobby Heenan used to say the same about Hogan 😂
Solomonster Sounds Off oh yuhhhh you replied love you man you're awesome!
2016
I actually liked the women's Rumble. Asuka won which was the right choice, Trish looked Great and the Tease of Heel Sasha towards the end was Amazing.
The people that everyone wanted to win won, and they were also the favorites. Usually WWE would use this opportunity for a swerve or just to build heat. Getting what we wanted for once... It was fucking weird.
Is this the most viewed review on your channel.
Japan has truly taken over wwe and wrestle mania 34.
At one point when Nia was standing tall in the ring & the countdown began I thought Kharma/Awesome Kong was gonna come out.
TrueWisdomAsherite80 That would've been something. Or Bull Nakano.
Rousey didn't even wrestle and stole the spotlight but atleast this rumble had Asuka & Nakamura winning
Edit: and holy shit Rusev was over as fuck today
Tried to steal the spotlight anyways, the crowd was going nuts for Asuka, Rousey points to the WM sign and the crowd is like "ehhh, ok"
Ziggler came out in 97 Shawn Michaels attire. Lol
Ronda even did a Network $9.99 plug in an interview after. She's officially a member of the WWE locker room
Not sure if that's good or bad. Depends on how good she is in the ring, but you don't wanna make her just another girl on the roster. She can be special like Lesnar.
Solomonster its been two months since I've been able to tune into your podcast but I'm back! That royal rumble was very good im a big fan of yours!
Welcome back!
What the hell is up with the dislikes?
King Bradberry if morons genuinely wanted a guy who is a potential bump from death and a woman married to the anti christ not turning up to inexplicably win then they are dumber than im sure they look.
@@stingersplash WTF Are you talking about???
I, personally can't wait for this review to finally reach +1,000,000 views.
Legit popped for Andrade, did not expect to see him
they used all of their nostalgia pops for the womens rumble...
John cena was sloppy tonight
Jonathan coleman very very loudly calling out spots. I know he’s usually pretty loud when calling them out but tonight it was on another level
That’s nothing new. He was standing right next to Roman shouting spots at him
Cena always been sloppy
yeah he was really bad along with his match against finn on raw. i think its the worst iv seen him perform in wwe. he seems so openly frustrated aswell with the spot calls and reaction to crowd. he was sloppy and oversold moves almost everytime.. i am almost trying to convince myself that this could be a doctor of thuganomics comeback.
I think this was actually a very good PPV. Both of the Rumble matches themselves were awesome, with the men's rumble in particular being extra good. I love how WWE teased fans by having Roman Reigns in the final two, only to give them what they really wanted. And of course Rey being there was amazing. Rey was over as hell and he looked phenomenal! He practically looked like he did in WCW! The undercard matches were a little underwhelming, but overall I think this was a definite thumbs up show.
The undercard was meh but yeah those two rumbles were pretty great especially the women I felt just like a kid marking out to all my favorite ladies
Exactly! I absolutely loved the Women's RR. So many memories of 90s/2000s. Lita, Candice, Molly holly, Trish (loved her rekindled rivalry with Micky James- oh the flashbacks!), Torie Wilson etc. add to that current women were not dumped for the legends. Sasha Banks, Nia Jax etc stood tall too & Asuka winning was best result. Rhonda Rhousey debuting after the match was cherry on the top.
stephanie mcmahon's favorite subject in school was history
Great show last night and excellent recap by the Solomonster!
another great sound off! thanks, Solomonster!
Best royal rumble in year's.
I’ve been waiting all night haha
Anyone else mark out for Rey Mysterio?
Rick McDick i did rey looked in pretty good shape looked like wcw rey mysterio
Rick McDick hell yeah
Hurricane was a better surprise
I was horrified... Mysterio on weekly TV gives me the shivers. I honestly did the whole god no Steve Carell meme. I'd be happy if he's on 205dead! so I never have to see him again. That being said, his nostalgia spots in the Rumble were nice... but if I have to see them every week I'd have to gag myself with a spoon as that twitter guy said.
Great review, Solomonster!
This Review is always Goated💯
Excellent review smonster!
Yeah, well I couldn't tell with all the freakin' dislikes LOL.
I thought the two rumble matches were the highlight this year. The undercard last year rumble was definitely better then this year was that's for sure.
I looked it up...Michelle McCool eliminated more people then Nia Jax...think about that
Tyrant Justice statistically that might be true but Nia was booked really strong. Throughout the match she pretty much dominated. Don't think this RR weakened her at all.
Finn Balor and Sasha Banks killed their royal rumble debuts
57 minutes for Finn
54 minutes I think for Sasha
My god
54 minutes. 30 of them outside of the ring..
Steve Strange oh please she was in at one point for 36 straight minutes fuck off
D'angelo Hustle Finn Bálor was better
"in 1999 Steve Austin spent 80% of the Rumble in the back resting, he opened and closed and was actually in there about 10 mins." There was a STORYLINE behind that. Sasha just couldn't hang. Go back and watch the fucking match, she was outside of the ring for more time then she was in it.. Bet if it was Roman the crowd would have chanted "Romans sleeping"again. Y'all are just blinded by the vagina.
You're a crazy person...
Could someone please justify the thumbs down? I’ve searched the comments to no negative feedback
Jay Dee Kay same, it’s baffling
I'm also perplexed
TheDragonDAFan the silly sausages
TheDragonDAFan that’s ridiculous! There hasn’t been streams UA-cam for a very long time! WWE got all that stuff taken off
TheDragonDAFan I feel protective over Solomonster like an older brother, I’ve been listening for for a long time!
WWE finally got it right this time. The right man and the right woman won.
I love how Tye didn't have any tv time for so long and just when he had the one chance to do something meaningful they take it away from him 😂 my god is he underused
One of the best PPVs I’ve seen in a long time. I’m more of a casual fan who keeps up through podcasts, but the Royal Rumble has always been my favorite event. They executed both of them well tonight, so I’m encouraged to see where they go with the momentum.
Both RR winners are from Japan, NJPW US crossover confirmed. I believed that this RR delievered, kinda wished the Mens RR was the main event.
Yeah, Rousey coming out made her seem bigger than every wrestler, men and women included. They should have set the Women's Rumble in the midcard for that reason.
Best rumble in a decade
Isn't it a bit contradictory to complain about 50/50 booking and also complain when a wrestler/team wins convincingly? I'm not too bothered by the clean sweep in the tag match because I'm a big fan of the Usos.
I think Rollins' pants were tribute to Jake Roberts. He wears black pants with red and yellow flames on the 92 rumble poster.
Tony Rumble Or just a tribute to Kane lol
Or Bam Bam Bigelow
LOL.
or Harlem Heat lol
The Men's RR match was funny, particularly, the Elias and Heath Slater moments. lol
"Tamina was in at #7 to ruin the mood" lmaooo she really did kill the vibe though
This was a decent Rumble, much better than the last 5 or so years.
They need to do something with Rusev!
The guy is seriously more over as he as ever been!
lol look at him now
I marked out for Hurricane
Universal Title match was God Awful. Best match was the Men's Rumble
SP Brazy The best part imo was when Lesnar gave Strowman the 2 piece nearly knocked his ass out. Other than that it didn’t do anything for me.
Was disappointed Aleister Black didn't make the Rumble match. Especially as the man he beat at Takeover did.
I mean would anyone have had an issue with him being at number 29 instead of Goldust?
Outside of that, I thought both Rumble matches were fun.
GamingAlimonda
Probably because they didn't want to do his cool entrance during a rumble match where entrances our rushed.
By “The man” you speak of are you talking about..........
ADAM COLE BAYBAY
I am with you on that :(
Actually, Nikki dumping Brie at that point should have been a shock. Because it implies that Nikki thought she could handle Asuka alone. That's a five Bella job if I ever saw one.
I think WWE want you to forget Corbin tossed out Braun last year
The Rumble proved that management has faith in Finn!
This was a great royal rumble TBH better than the one in 2015 I was just mad that the men's had only a couple surprises tbh
AJ v. SHINSUKE
I hope this review gets +1,000,000 views.
I always find that little intro funny for these extras
Annette beautiful
Is Molly single cause......DAAAAAMN!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Chris Jordan molly still got them hips
Lol... I said the same thing, she's still fine as HELL!!!!!
She's married but he's in prison so go for it.
I had a really good time with this year's rumble as my video reaction can attest to. I have watched every rumble live since 2011 on wards and each year has had it's moments, of course 2012 was fine, del rio winning the year before that was fine, 2013 was a lot of fun until we all knew that cena was winning. Then of course we have the "controversial" and very newsworthy 2014 rumble with the lack of daniel bryan in it and then the following year with Reigns being booed loudly. So i will say of the last few this year's entry was probably my favourite ...The men's rumble felt slightly rushed at times , but really picked up and had it's moments. Seeing Rey mysterio back was a nice surprise and I enjoyed the final moments of the rumble because there was an air of unpredictability to it...because you could argue Balor winning, Cena Winning, Reigns Winning or Nakamura. I loved the brief clashes with Shinsuke and Roman ( that is a future main event) . The two title matches I could care less for....Lesnar has been very hit and miss for me since 2016. The women's rumble was highly entertaining, I think that i spoke for most of us, that it took sometime to re energise after Nakamura's win. I loved Naomi's creative way to get back in the ring, that was great! I also enjoyed Sasha Banks and Trish's confrontation as did I enjoy Beth Phoenix and Nia Jax to. Trish looked amazing on a side note and Michelle Mcool, in fact Molly and Lita. They have options with those names if they want to use them again. Asuka winning was the right move and Ronda's cameo at the end was a great lift. Thumbs up when wwe get's it right ...they get it right! much love from London
"Kofi getting saved is basically a tradition at the royal rumble"lol
Lmaoooooo i knew you were gonna mention alundra blayze
Thank goodness that Stephanie didn't involved in the woman's the royal rumble .
They dont like the #30 spot in the Rumble these days, do they?
Armbar Arcade but... Trish?
Quick muscle recovery.... lol that’s exactly what steroids do
I agree about the Bobby Roode audible and how the finish should have been done but WWE is always very tight with time, so I believe that while that might have been the better choice, they would have taken more time that what they were given.
Damn what's with all dislikes? This was a good listen.
Stephen Andrews: it was a good listen, but i don't think the dislikes are from that. i can think of a few reasons, it might've been what he said about certain segments of the Royal Rumble he mentioned Roman Reigns and John Cena, but other than that who knows why people put so many dislikes. im subscribed to alot of different channels on UA-cam, and not all of them are wrestling channels, but a couple of them are. still i watch different videos all the time, and i may not always agree with that person, but im not gonna dislike the video just because i don't agree, unless that person said something very offensive or disrespectful. i just comment on the video. but that's wrestling fans for you, and some people take wrestling way too serious sometimes, to the point where you don't understand how somebody can sleep over a scripted show.
It's dumb UA-cam people, not knowing how to read or look closely at the title or thumbnail of a video. They're expecting the royal rumble match, uploaded to UA-cam. Same thing happens to this other channel, NewLegacyINC. Everytime they'd post their goofy WWE2K game simulations of payperviews, their videos would be flooded with dislikes, expecting the real deal. Their could be organic dislike like the person who replied before me was talking about, but I don't think that's the case. Like I said before, real dumb.
One thing we learned, last night?:
Braun Strowman does not like getting punched in the face!
Glad that they specifically picked Andrade and Adam to be the only 2 NXT entries. I see Alastair as another Nakamura and Gargano as another Zayn, but both Adam and Cien are both so young and so talented that they both can be their own superstars.
Solomonster! How'd you do in the RR pool?
japan 🇯🇵 took over this rumble ppv Shinsuke Nakamura & asuka too sweet🤘 & i must say i liked how cena & reigns trolled the philly fans thinking they were winning , best rumble in the last 5-10 years in my opinion
I thought the show was pretty good. I enjoyed both Rumble matches and, although they were both kind of predictable, they were still fun to watch. I was most surprised by the appearance of Rey Mysterio, after what I have read about him and the WWE.
I only got 2 of my predictions wrong and, while I didnt win our pool money (I did Last year) I still had a great time.
Ronda Rousey was a bit odd, to me. I would have preffered her to have been In the Rumble match and not what she did after it.
A lot of us were begging Finn Balor to win but, no thanks to John Cena, of course.
Love the show, Jason! And, I love these extras! Thanks for all you do!
I have to be up for work at 4:45am so I decided to tune in last night at 8pm, and was actually pretty happy when I noticed they were doing the Men's Rumble early. I was then able to watch the only match I cared about in real-time and then go to bed lol. Didn't watch the rest of it and really have no desire to; however, from this review, it sounds fairly solid. Regarding all of the dislikes for this video, I can only assume it's from people who didn't like the show?
the rumble matches were great Nakamaura & Asuka winning was the right call that saved an average show and made it good.
interested to see where Ronda goes.
Wanted to hear Solomonster's opinion on the reciept Brock gave Bruan. Shame he didn't mention it in the review.
47:10 I thought the same thing at first but a minute or two later she did the same move but was holding up 7 fingers, one for each championship Trish has held, 1 more than Mickie (if you count divas and womens belts together)
You're right, I realized that after. She was making the "seven" gesture for being a 7-time champion.
I was pulling for Finn, but I thought the show was really fun overall
Matthew Campagna I m glad Finn lasted as long as he did.
The Hurricane is a Super Hero and he went up against Super Cena. I thought it was kinda entertaining, Solomonster obviously did not.
P Michaud I squealed in delight when i heard," stand back!"
Ziggler was a waste. I was sure he was going to win, yet he lasts 1 minute. Zayn stealing Dillingers spot was a waste too, why have that happen if Sami was only going to get tossed 3 min later. Other than that, really good rumble.
Yo Solomonster, idk what royal rumble you were watching, the mid card was everything it needed to be!
The opening match was fantastic and had a great finish. The SD tag Match was great too. As I recall you said that match will steal the show, I don't think it did. It was still a great match, but you set yourself up for failure with those expectations. Also the Raw Title match was good too, what did you expect it to be? I didn't think there was a low point on this show.. maybe just maybe the raw tag match but I thought it wasn't bad. The only bad thing on this show was Stephanie on commentary doing a very lack luster job. I know it was her first time she doesn't do it. But to me it seems like Vince sent her out to do that and she maybe didn't want to, not in a bad way, she didn't seem like she knew how to sell things.
lol that Alundra Blaze thing was so cringe
I would have loved a Damien Sandow return.
Kind of sucked the fact that there were really only 2 surprise returns for the Men's Rumble. The women's had a lot more. And maybe I'm still half asleep but it sounded like Trish Stratus got a louder pop than Rousey did.
I agree with most I’m just tired of Brock holding the title and not defending it . We need a champion who is appearing. I believe they said he has had the title for 301 days . I would be curious the amount of time he has ACTUALLY defended that title or appeared on TV , house shows etc.?
Agreed at this point idc if Roman takes the title from him at least we know we will see him on a regular basis and interact with people week to week making the title more active.
I'm re-listening to this review and Jason starts talking about how prior to the Rumble, Jason Jordan hadn't competed on house shows in about two weeks. I was at the live event the night before the Rumble in Baltimore, he competed in the main event six-man tag with Roman and Seth.
Curious, did he actually wrestle in the match and do spots or did it seem like they were protecting him? I was of the impression he wasn't even at that show and would be surprised if he actually did any real wrestling.
Solomonster Sounds Off I was barely paying attention to the match cause I can't stand Jordan or Miz, but I do remember Seth wouldn't tag him in for most of the match, but there were a few time where he'd run in and attack Bo, Curtis, and Miz, and help Roman and Seth clear the ring. He definitely was getting physical. I'm not too sure how many bumps he actually took in the match, though.
The 2006 Rumble was a mid card rumble it went on 3rd to last. So a mid card rumble is ok especially when you have 2. Next year i suggest they open and close with them.
Ummmm what's good with the dislikes?
I think b/c he liked that Roman & Cena were in the final 4.
Jesus christ whats with all the dislikes
he's got more likes than dislikes though, and views are more important than a dislike.
Speaking of views, Jezz LeWeez, one day ago, this video had 50,000 views: now it's close to 600,000! Way to go, Solomonster.
It’s possible that people thought this was the full show but once they actually got on the video realized it was a review
I know it’s hard to see the full title of a video on mobile
This is 100% the reason
It's interesting that Nakamura has the choice between two champions he's already faced before in Japan.
It's too bad his match with Brock back in 2006 sucked, but that was the dark ages of NJPW.
joey zapata ...ironic though cause now brock was awesome back in the day and now his matches suck and nakamura got better.
Fantastic Royal Rumble from top to bottom. No stinkers at all.
As a complete show I felt this Royal Rumble show was the best since the 2007 show. What I enjoyed of both rumble matches was that when it got to last six or less people in each rumble it felt like every person had a chance and reason to win.
SP Brazy I completely agree. I watched it a month ago and as the show kept going it got better. The 2007 undercard was better than this year's, but these 2 rumble as a whole are the best since 2007.
Why wouldn't Michelle McCool be considered one of the greatest women that WWE has ever had? She was very good in the ring and had very good matches, she was a great talker, she was a women's champion, and a divas champion. Her and Layla's co-champion schtick was some of the better things we had in the women's division during her time. What is Solo's bias against her?
Paper Bomb Konan it’s no bias she fucking sucked. Nobody will EVER put any of her matches on any countdown of any kind. None of her promos. None of her segments. Nothing. She did nothing notable but show up for work.
Paper Bomb Konan Have to agree. Used to tune in on Saturday mornings here in the UK and loved their little thing.
StoneCold TLawstin Yet the Bella twins are plastered everywhere. She was one of the best things during that time before the whole "Woman's Revolution".
Agreed.
SP Brazy laycool is basically the iconic duo, Beth, Michelle, Melina and a young Nattie basically kept the division on life support
What’s up with the dislikes?
Babyface Tommy I Know Right
Babyface Tommy Just some dickheads who thought this was the full show
Best royal rumble In the last 10 years (probably more) it was amazing.
Chthonian121 8,9 & 10 were fantastic rumbles
8 wasn't that great in my opinion. Piper and Snuka returns were pretty cool I remember I got excited.
9 was terrible. RVD return was the best part, the rest was all predictable throwaway garbage.
10 pissed me off becuause Shawn Micheals didn't know and Edge winning was horseshit. Otherwise very forgettable
Sorry but this year was pretty predictable as well.
Why so many thumbs down?
That was my first thought. People have the attention spans of gnats and don't read beyond 5 words.
most of the people i saw who hated the show were complaining how the Miz or Ziggler deserved it more
Patriotsfan4life24 - Oooh, that explains it! I figured that people were all upset that the non-Rumble matches were shit so the overall PPV is terrible in their opinion.
Ah, good call. Idiots lol
WWE smarks who hate the product but still can't stop watching. Losers!
So Michelle McCool has the most eliminations in women's Royal Rumble history with 5.......wow
Mattview72 She also holds the record for the most botches in a women's Royal Rumble.
Her hubby would be proud
oh comon, get the big picture instead of nitpicking about small details that 4 out of 10 ppl care about.
Ziggler coming in at 30 would have made perfect sense if he had eliminated himself in some way.
Yes, like Mil Mascaras!
It was a wasted opportunity in an otherwise entertaining match and it would have furthered his character arc without affecting any other plans.
Good show in all
happy ru ru day
I actually preferred the women's rumble over the men's
The final SIX and the final FOUR of the men's Rumble was brilliant albeit obvious story telling. Roman, Finn & Shinsuke represented the new kids running the block, while Cena, Randy and Rey represented the old guard who weren't ready to give up their spot. Cena was the most entertaining he has been in months during this stand off as he was clearly trying to provoke the crowd and lead his defacto team against CHANGE. When Randy and Rey got weeded out...then shit got really interesting. THIS--THE FINAL FOUR, represented the REAL POWER STRUGGLE going on with this company! The battle of wills between WWE management...and the IWC over who should be "THE TOP GUYS" in this business. ONCE AGAIN--John Cena was the most entertaining here as he POLITICED Roman Reigns into being his new ally!! "This is about us Roman!! This is about ALL of them (the crowd) wanting these two scrubs to run it when it should be GUYS LIKE US!" I loved every riveting minute of this Rumble finish. Best Rumble in quite some time!!
Totally agree but smarks will say that this Rumble was too predictable and lacked any drama.
Great video. Rumble was great I feel the commentary for the woman's rumble was very bad
I enjoyed it for what it was but one thing this ppv did make up for that awesome raw 25
I think Kevin Nash has since said Shawn botched it on purpose to make Nash look bad. So doing it twice would be pointless I guess if Shawns throwing a tantrum.
I watched this PPV with some friends who are not very high on Asuka with her undefeated streak, and was not happy that she won. Asuka winning was something I saw coming, but I understand their displeasure in the end result. This Royal Rumble could have been used to elevate someone else who needed the momentum. Asuka in my opinion did not necessarily need to win, because she already beat Alexa Bliss clean on RAW, which should earn her a title shot. Plus, Elimination Chamber is a RAW PPV, where they could of made Asuka number one contender or champion that way. My pick Becky Lynch, or even Sasha Banks could of heavily benefited from being the victor of this match. Asuka is good, don't get me wrong, but so is Becky, Sasha, etc. They deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Asuka.
Isaiah Webb she is undefeated so losing wasn't an option
Isaiah Webb
Sasha botch artist banks absolutely does not to be in the same conversation as asuka!! I think sasha banks is terrible !
Sasha Banks peaked at WM 32.
Banks does not deserve it after them terrible kicks to Lita in the corner
Leesy7NUFC
Or for hurting other wrestlers as well like emma and paige also
The rumble in 06 went on 3rd from the top w cena v umaga next followed by angle v Henry for the wwe and world championships respectively
You are correct... except it was Cena vs Edge, not Umaga. You are getting confused with Royal Rumble 07
Offtopic but Cena and Umaga had some pretty good matches.
