The video shows adjusting someone from their back to their side. I know this was mentioned previously. I now take care of a loved one on Hospice and I can really use the info for future use.

I am a nursing student. So far, I find the instructors stress turning during discussion of pressure sore but that was about a 15 minute discussion and they give no concrete hands on instruction. Then in clinical, the nurses may or may not turn patients but if they do, they don't explain or verbalise technique. So I can definitely see how a new nurse won't know these skills. I am thankful for this channel.
@@mizzchuz.6413Once you start working, you can learn from the Nursing Assistants. They are the ones who know these techniques. They learn about positioning in their training. They often know the most about positioning.

I'd be afraid of mom slipping off the bed with this - that has happened with her regular full size bed - but guess many hospital beds have railings. We are thinking of getting one.
I’ve been doing this as a nurse for 46 years and never had anyone slide off a bed, unless they were so agitated that you couldn’t keep them in the bed. Don’t be afraid Care is treatment! Positioning, and turning as one of the most important parts of taking care of a patient in bed. Medicare will help you get a hospital bed. Ask your PCP to write a prescription for the bed. It is considered durable medical equipment (DME.)

If only hospital beds were a bit wider, maybe half again as wide as a twin bed.
Yes, they might be a bit more comfortable but when you have to lean over farther, it’s harder on your back. Don’t forget to put the rails up and have the patient hold on if they can during the turns.
