- How can artificial intelligence help break down plastics in the oceans?
The Centre for Enzyme Innovation at the University of Portsmouth, led by John McGeehan, Rosie Graham, and their colleagues, is utilizing AlphaFold, an AI system developed by Google DeepMind, to develop a solution. The aim is a fully circular plastic economy, using enzymes to break plastic polymers down so they can be 100% recycled back to their initial state - or even upcycling degraded material back to the quality of virgin plastic.
The world produces around 400m tonnes of plastic waste each year. Much of it ends up in landfill; a significant portion is polluting the world’s oceans. Conventional plastic recycling only degrades the material - in fact, most plastic items never fully disappear.

Making the job of a Ph.D. in minutes is an enormous breakthrough. This can make science go exponentially faster at building solutions for the upcoming challenges of the world
A.I. :yo Ph.D. guy wanna merge?
Ph.D. : I don't know it seems dangerous
A.I. : you'll get more papers published and help humanity
Ph.D. : When do we start?
So beautiful! I love these type of videos Deepmind post. Keep them coming ❤️
The only thing that's contagious is your enthusiasm
Wow! That's amazing! Really great work, you people!
Please, please, please let this work. We really need some hope these days. 💚
Amazing
awesome
Information,and inspiring vedio
Super cool video! Pollution is a serious threat.
I'd really like to hear about DeepMind's approach to AI Alignment! It seems like more human + machine cooperative games could make a lot of headway towards this issue and it would be super neat to see videos on it!
Whats the ring about?
Good advertisement
another bs only!
But, in all honesty, I think you should be focussing the resources somewhere else (where they're needed the most) because plastics can be broken down using pyrolysis.
Which is a relatively easy process, you're just flexing and thus being useless (wasting resources).
You are genius. Why aren't we all listening to you.
People: Ai is dangerous
Ai: i just want to hel-
People: Omg look ai gonna kill us we need to go mars before its too late
You are Marshmellows! greetings from alien musk elon AI from mars-hell-o with its ai-chip into your head for driving your minds with artificial telepahty
No spoken words = No possibility to hear their lies anymore by speech analyse.
People tend to get scared when they don't understand something, I mean it's probably a good idea for the average human to not mess with nasty elements or a high power laser. LOL
AI can be dangerous, those at Deepmind are one of the most aware of that.
Jesus walked on earth and returned to the Father who is in spirit :Luke 10 23. And He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that have seen the things that you see. 24. For I tell you, many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them;, and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them
I think God gave a little smile with the hope that we can really help him make this world better. Oh Deepmind!! You are being very generous to this world. Thanks.
Why does your supposed God need our help? Couldn't he just solve all our problems himself? If so, why doesn't he?
But there is no god.
@@daveken9936 Yes.
hey, calm down! Look at Leonardo da Vinci's "The Creation of Adam" and you'll see what God I'm talking about.
@@mauriciosucheuski1755 Look at "Touched By His Noodly Appendage" to see the God I believe in.
