    A very good trip to my way of thinking. I lose some now and then but it’s part of the game. In Tarpon fishing I was told not to expect more than one or two out of twelve. I’m liking the rod a lot but have too much going on at the moment. Hopefully they’ll be available when I’m ready. Looking forward to your next installment. Watching you was all the fishing I got to do today…….Tim

    I refuse to get heavy bass rigs because it takes the fun out of everything. I don't understand how people can like something that sucks the joy out of fishing! To each his own I guess. Great day of fishing as always, and thanks for saving me money on those expensive Keitech's made of recycled tires! 😂

      The thing about that is the technique being used. You wouldn't throw a frog on 2lb ester line on a ul set up in lilypads. I love my ul set ups but only in open water. I have lost plenty of nice jdm lures and jigheads becaused a 1-2lber just happen to take me into the only small weeds around the area. While losing tackle is apart of fishing, I would rather minimize my losses. The heavier set ups opens another realm of spots to fish. I would love to see UL purist fish punching areas and tell me they will be happy fishing those areas.. Instead of the joy coming from landing the fish, it comes from watching it blow up on a bait or feeling how hard the fish smacks a crank. A lot of big bass comes out of fishing the ugliest and thickest muck sometimes. Ethically wise now, its kinda hard to argue for heavier gear, as it does tend to mess up fish lips with how hard some people be swinging.

    I love 4 pounds braid with a 3 pounds fluoro leader. The problem with it is that if you don't know how to set the breaks, you will destroy the fish mouth. So you can have the breaks even lower and "simulate" like you have a nylon, just be a lot more tender and less excited. I never hook the fish while i use braid, i let the fish to hook himself, because of the lack in the stretch, it's working very well and i preserve the fish mouth.

      You can't compensate for lack of elasticity with drag. You are wasting your time with this explanation as its physically impossible. People just make up justifications and rationalizations because they like the strength, and then they want to convince themselves that everything else is fine, but one day you will wake up and realize YOU have been lying to yourself.

    Great video. Oh by the way I added some Varivas line on my Digitaka reel order with no extra shipping cost. Thanks for the tip. I was amazed at how cheap the line was compared to buying it here from Varivasusa. About half the cost right now.

    Good analogy on the braid. I'm old enough to remember when people went from braid to mono in the 1960s. Although braid back then was garbage compared to todays braid. I prefer mono too.

    Catching carp on this setup is more "fun". Unfortunately, in NJ polluted water, there is not much else other than 20 lb carps.

      @@ifishcatfish I saw you and Richard the other day… I’ve been waiting for a carp video… He’s literally went after every other species in the river…😂 I remember the first time I hooked a carp it was a giant. I was at lake Weiss in Alabama and a guy was cleaning stripe bass and the sink just spilled out into the lake. Anyway that carp was down there eating the pieces of skin and stuff that went down the drain into the lake. I asked him for a small piece of that skin and he said sure. I used just a small hook and no weight so it would fall more naturally. I watched it come up and grab it… I waited a couple seconds and put the steel to him…😭 Boy was I surprised, I could have skied behind that SOB…🤣 Lmao

    I can't agree... bride line is super if you use right rod (not to stiff except for pike or sander fishing) and know how control the fish. If you don't care sensitivity, than ok mono or ester is cheap and go on. For jig fishing in UL sorry, no way mono...

    If there's no stretch in the braid, how is it not setting the hook better than a stretchy line? The give for me,is in the drag & bend of the rod.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 місяці тому +2

      I don't have the power to set hooks with these flimsy rods. But with stretchy line the pressure on the fish is so good, that even without penetration the hook sticks to the fish. When the line has no stretch, and the fish pulls AWAY, and then BACK, on the BACK move there is slack in the line. Drag does not pull line back in.

      @@ifishcatfish it's very doable with the 2000 sf.. with your type of knowledge and skill and not horsing in the fish it's very enjoyable with that set up. Just going to be a long battle if you hook up on a big carp or catfish 🤣 now that's sizes of fish the 2500sf is even too light🤣 only 5 grams difference...
      That rod is very nice for the price and matches very good with the 2000sf.. how's its balance ?
      To me anything 200 grams rod reel combo set up I'm not so concerned about balance since it's to light I can cast with my wrist all day 🤣
      As a braid person I feel your pain 🤣 I love braid but it's not always the right choice 🙃 for your type of fishing a nice flor or mono will make that way more pleasing to fish.
