I think I already watched enough videos to convince myself that the Launchpad X is on the top of my list but this one really sold it. Nice to see a quick little example of the features being used to make a beat. Some of the other videos out there have things way too automated to really see what it's like. Do you think it's a good first piece of hardware? Think I might get one to reward myself for surviving another semester. Or maybe it'll be a Christmas present.
Novation would be wise to include LP Pro in Components, and allow for 4 custom midi maps (with a firmware update). They can't abandon all those LP Pro owners.... I like the X, but I think the Pro gets the job done a little better. It's not much bigger, but those extra buttons are massively helpful. No track select on the X. Though, the X has the custom midi mapping, which is great... but... since with Ableton, you can't easily assign a midi button (CC message) to most Ableton functions (such as Quantize), it's almost an unnecessary feature. However, for use with other DAWs, that's a strength with the X (the scale modes, etc).
Damn, looking at my copy of Components and I still see no LP Pro, 2 months later. The fact that despite this, it supports the Bass Station II is really disappointing. I'm sorry to you and all other LP Pro owners. Did Novation say anything about adding support in the future?
LP- X specs say... "Pressure & Velocity sensitive pads". Does that mean you can lay your finger on the pad and just apply pressure to trigger, w/o lifting and striking each time? Like my old MPC? thanks
I have a launchpad and never use it but want to get into making beats on it and finger drumming ... recommend any videos on tutorials for someone who is truly just getting started with it?

I'd really love a full indepth breakdown of both because I know that you have a lot of experience with controllers and I think that one of them may be my next controller lol

Wonder how long until the Launchpad X Pro releases. Only reason I won't be getting this. Feel like that will drop within the year and only be $50-$100 more.
No, they only work with Ableton Live 10!!! (at least the session view). My push 2 is not recognizing Live 10 for whatever reason, so I have to use Live 9 currently. None of the MK3's do.... Pretty shitty..
Love Your videos. Love the music You create. I'v never played any instrument, but just realised - it's never too late! So I'm looking for instrument to get in to world of sounds. Novation sl 49 mk3? Arturia essential 49? M-audio...? Too many choises!!! From one hand - I'm afraid to get something not good enough and from other hand - spend too much and find, that I have no talent to make any music... 😕 Thanx for Your videos and Instagram pictures - allways tastefull and greatly sounding! 😊👍
That is pretty cool, but it wont replace my Push2 (i know..pricedifference). And i still think the best alternative to the Push 2 is an iPad with Touchable..its wireless, accessing basically everything Live has to offer and at a very affordable price. BUT..this is still a cool piece of gear 😊👍 does it do drumsequencing like the Push 2? That would be kind of a dealbreaker for me if ever wondered about getting it
Did you fall out of love with the Launchpad? You promised more videos, but I have not seen any recently... I just ordered the Pro MK3 and was wondering what you might think of it’s capabilities.
This is exactly the decision I'm trying to make. This is one of the few Launchpad X videos I've yet seen that got closest to helping answer the question, but I'd still like to hear, somewhere, some more direct thoughts on whether it makes sense to get an LPP for $40 more at this point. I feel like the new, slightly larger pads, and just overall a more recently designed piece of hardware, is pretty attractive for the LPX -- so is the MIDI Capture button. But losing out on the entire left column of controls, like quantize, compared to the LPP, as well as the MIDI I/O and stand alone modes -- maybe the LPP is worth the extra $40. Still looking for an indepth video that makes that comparison and recommends one over the other.
nickfoettinger yeah I mean the launchpad pro gives you way more control in ableton for added workflow than the launchpad x. The launchpad x really is just a special 10 year anniversary launchpad with a new design and added features. Whereas the launchpad pro is a professional launchpad. To me, the design of the launchpad pro looks better and those added buttons on the bottom and left hand side gives you so much flexibility in abelton. All for $40 dollars more? I reckon I’ll go with the pro. Let me know what you end up getting 👍
Just got a Launchpad X, I've been using FL Studio for 10 years and I'm trying to familiarize myself with Ableton... I can't figure out how to get the Launchpad to play the plugin or rack I have selected its just trying on one specific rack
Anyone experienced with the Launchkey MKII and the Launchpad Pro - how does the velocity sensitivity compare? Is the velocity sensitivity better to play finger drums on the Launchpad Pro or are they basically the same? I ask because I own a Launchkey MKII and a Launchpad MKII, and I’m considering upgrading to the Launchpad Pro, but mostly just for the potentially better velocity for finger drumming. Will I notice an improvement compared to finger drumming on the Launchkey MKII drum pads?
Ansolo CL thanks for the response. But yes, I am aware of that. But the question was more asking whether the Launchpad Pro has better velocity sensitivity compared to the Launchkey mini. Because that would be the main motive for upgrading.
