Legendary words, inspired by a bad-ass movie, part of one of the biggest Headhunterz classics to date. A song that was created in one day, but has left its mark upon hardstyle forever.
Let’s go back to the year 2006, and relocate to Willem’s studio in Veenendaal. He’d just quit his studies at the Rock Academy, moved back in with his mother, and he and Bobby were getting ready for their first big gig in The Netherlands. That night, they were going to rock Groningen. Nervous as they were, Bobby dropped by the studio early, to prepare something special. Unaware that they were about to write history…
Bobby came up with a melody and piano line, but Willem had the feeling it wasn’t quite there yet. And so, they locked themselves up in the studio and started tweaking, building and reconstructing. Being a big fan of the 1994 movie The Boondock Saints, Willem voice-recorded one of its famous quotes and put it on top of the song. Within only a few hours, the first version of ‘The Sacrifice’ was a fact.
The lucky few who were there at that party in Groningen witnessed its premiere. And there’s no doubt, they must have felt its impact. Willem: ”From that moment on, ’The Sacrifice’ set the tone for hardstyle. Those pitched-up kicks, that sound, became the sound for hardstyle in the years following. I remember getting a phone call from Dov, The Prophet. He told me ‘Willem, those tracks you sent were really nice, but ‘The Sacrifice’, now that is what we call a hit.’ And right then, that moment, was when we though: wow, let’s see what comes next.”
“…and so, the Headhunterz made a sacrifice. Boundaries are there to be crossed. In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti…”

I still don't get what the whole "leaving Hardstyle" thing is about. I like Willem's music for HIS style; weather it be house, Hardstyle, dubstyle, whatever. Of course I love Hardstyle, but I became a fan for the Headhunterz sound; Willem's sound, so it shouldn't really matter if he "leaves" Hardstyle because he's still going to make music with his own sound.
