I want into Ag badly. I'm a ~500hr Commercial Limited (IFR in December) SEL pilot with probably 20hrs of High Perf. / Complex time. No tail dragging time or turbine experience. Is it worth it going to someplace like Riggin Aviation or Eagle Vista and pay the ~12-15k for dusting lessons or just start "handing out resumes" so to speak?
Any advice, beyond what had been discussed here would be worth its weight in gold and so much appreciated. Thank you for your podcasts and time!

Just my personal opinion. Loading is the best thing you can do to try and break into the industry. You'll find out if this job is for you after the first busy run. You'd hate to go drop 12-15k on school just to find out later on you don't like the work. Also it can put you in a bit of a financial bind. You go spend a bunch of money and now you need to find a flying job asap just to keep your head above water. Most operators will not take kindly to a demanding newbie who says I'm not loading I need to start flying. Now this isn't me hating on schools it's just the reality of the situation. I do have lot of friends who loaded first than went to Ag school when their employer decided it was time to start them out. It's not a straight line from A to B unfortunately. I hope that helps and best of luck in the future.

Hi, I’m also interested in Ag aviation. Until listening to your podcast, I thought this was one of those “you need 2,000 hrs to get in” kind of jobs. Thanks for clearing up my partial misconception. BTW what is Loading. I have a guess, but I’m not sure.

@@bradycope2332 Loading is working for an Ag outfit loading aircraft with the chemicals, fuel, seed, or other materials the pilots are contracted to drop on farmers' fields (though the fuel goes into the airplane of course).
Most operations have weighed heavily on the tail dragger time, just FYI.
